Another Sotonian here.... well Tottonian to be exact.
First round of NaNoWriMo, I can tell its going to play havoc with college and work etc, but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.

Hi! This is my fourth Nano and I maybe i'll actually finish this year. I've just moved to Southampton for University so this is my new home region. Nice to meet you, and hopefully many more will join our team! Good luck to everyone.

Hi y'all.
I am from Germany but study at Solent Uni and thus hope that I can attend some NaNoWriMo meetings in this region. This is my 2nd NaNo and hopefully my 2nd win. According to the word checker here, I finished with 66,666 words last time. :)
I will probably write a sci-fi story this year (again). What genre will you use?

Hi!
----------I'm not from Southampton, but this is my closest region (as far as I know. I'm not great at Geography, I just know that I'm in the same county). This is my first year at NaNo and I'm going to write a YA Sci-Fi book unless I change my mind.

Hi!
I'm from Romsey, currently at college in Winchester, and this is my second year of Nanowrimo, and I have to say, I'm already getting itchy fingers. I can tell this will be a better year than my first, and hopefully I'll get closer to the target than before, maybe I'll even reach it...
Hopefully I'll be able to get closer to a local wrimo meet too.
This year I'll be writing a second sci-fi/ fantasy book, the sequel to the still unfinshed novel of last year. This leaves me in the fortunate position of having a decently formed plot, but has left me somewhat undecided on the title. But there's plenty of time for that.

@ Nurgette-
I've also just moved to Southampton for University. What are you studying? I am a student nurse...
The genre of my novel, as much as I can pin it down to one category, is adventure, although there are elements of humour, a great deal of comfy friendship with cocoa, and perhaps some (not-too-smug, I hope) moralising about priorities! I don't know what genre this makes it, but I have always wanted to write an adventure story, so that is what I am have pegged it as :)

Hi, I'm Emma. Just moved to Southampton for university (Solent \o/) and after one success and one failure at NaNo, this year will tip the balance into the winning side.
Mine will be a prequel of my last nano, a sci-fi, dystopia style story, unless I get distracted a few days before by some idea that won't leave me alone.

I live in Whiteley (M27 J9) and work at NATS (Air Traffic Control HQ). Probably older than most of you. I'm in for a YA fantasy now that JK's stopped writing HP. Although I suspect half the UK writing population have the same idea, but it's like the lottery, you can't win unless you buy a ticket.

Hi everyone!
I'm in Fareham, but I don't mind tagging into Southampton. ;-) Ouch! Sorry, I did use a smilie there.
Signed on in 2004 and 2005, but didn't finish. I'm determined to stick with it and get writing this year.
Looking forward to it.

Hello!
Thought I'd introduce myself! I've been wanting to take part in NaNoWriMo for years now and this probably wasn't the right year to join as I've just started a Masters! Oh well...nothing ventured eh? Hopefully my joining on a whim will be a good thing and this will actually motivate me to write!

Hello all! I'm new to NaNoWriMo, having forgotten about it until it was much too late for the last few years.
But no more! Here I am. I have a few ideas. Am now panicking slightly about which one to use. :)

Hi - I'm definitely older than most of you! Oh, to be at college again!
Anyway, second Nano, Live twixt S'ton and Portsmouth (luckily closer to Southampton!), was a winner with 'The Longcase Clock' last year. Sort of teen witch thing for 12-15 yr olds. This year - sci-fi ... I think - or perhaps a sequel.

Southampton resident, 2006 winner, 2007 non-winner and 2008 ... whatever happened to 2008? Looking forward to 1 November 2009 and aiming for 50,000+. This year I have NOT offered to organise the annual pre-Christmas dinner dance/ host any bonfire parties/signed up for weekend training courses/help anyone move house, so I have a better chance than last year of getting the word-count done!
What will I be writing? Haven't a clue!
Good luck everyone and hope to see some of you at a 'write-in' somewhere in the city.

Hiya All
Signing in to NaNo for my first year. Based near Salisbury. Would be interested in hearing from anyone who is at Winchester Uni studying creative writing as looking at their courses at the mo.
Any tips and support welcome as I am a novice at this game. Aim to write a sci-fi novel - so bring it on!.

Hi All!
I'm Ella, AKA plv. I was the municipal liason last year, but I've not signed up to do it this year.
My NaNo history?
In '07 I started work on my first novel, 'Under a Black Sun', won NaNo and then decided to take a year out to continue writing I liked this that much. In '08 I won NaNo with the start of the novel: 'With Clear Sight' which I'm trying to beat into something I can submit. This year? I don't know what I'll write, possibly the next novel in the series or maybe something completely different and literary rather than Sci-fi/urban fantasy.
To all the Winchester Uni people, we had write-ins in Winchester last year as well as Soton, so that can always be done again.
I'm almost looking forward to this years NaNo...

Hi Surfgirl i graduated from Winchester Uni with an MA in Creative writing in 2004 or 2005 I can't remember.
It was a good course (each module's value is entirely dependant on the quality of the lecturer though) and I am glad I did it. However don't expect to graduate with a part or completed novel that will see you towards a career as a writer. I suggest that only happens to people who would otherwise have written a novel during that time anyway.
I was dissapointed with the lack of contact with publishers and agents but I suppose you need to do a course in London or East Anglia for that.
The good bits were the other students who become writing friends, studying Story by Robert McKee, and learning how others, both students and staff, approach the craft.
If you want to be a writer, the course won't change that; it might give you some self confidence, but a good writers' group or weekend like the one that Winchester Uni runs each July will do that. The course will give you whatever you put into it - you will be surprised (or maybe not) the number of people who claim they want to be writers who hardly write anything at all.
Hope I haven't been too negative, I didn't mean to be, go for it.
