So, who is in for the new year?
I'm just starting to seriously look at outlines and worldbuilding. I hope that I'll be ready. But if not... I still intend to have fun this year.

This is my first year. I'm excited and have begun to work my way through my "ideas barrel" to pick my project. I'll decide in the next two or three days and then get busy outlining and doing some character profiles.
I've not yet chosen a Home Region. I live in Columbus Ne. is there anyone out there from Columbus? Is this the most appropriate region for me to make my Home Region?

Wow! Here I am again! I won two Nano's, lost one, and took a year off. Now I'm back to win again. Believe it or not, I woke up last night with, if not a plot, at least with a storyline - it came to me in a dream! Now that sounds like NaNoWriMo fate, so I'm going to run with it.

Hi! I'm excited to do this. Last year I signed up to do it, but then got distracted and never did. :( I'm trying to think of a good plot to begin an outline. I'm not quite sure what the story will consist of yet, but I know there will be a Scifi aspect to it. That's fun, right? Anyway, I can't wait until November, but in the meanwhile, to help condition myself, I'm going to try to write a lot every day. It won't all have to be the same thing, but if I get in the habit, that will help me reach the goal...at least that's what I'm thinking. Good luck all!!!

Hi. Anyone from around Kearney? If so let me know!
This is my first year to try this. I'm really hoping to reach at least half the word count, if not all 50,000. At any rate, I'll be glad to get a restart on the novel I started a few years ago. I'm scrapping everything I had already written (which was really really bad) and redoing the outline. Hopefully it actually works out this time!

Hello Nebraska,
I am a Lincoln resident and this will be my first year participating in the Great NaNoWriMo.
I see most of you talking about plotting and outlining ahead of time. Is that the most common approach?
Any advice for a new acolyte?

Some people actually sit down and plan out their story or plot. I'm not like that. I just sit down and start pounding the keys. Sometimes what I write is good enough to keep, other times it stinks. It leads me in different directions. It's what works for you.

Hello Nebraskans!
I don't know what I was thinking. Probably going through some sort of crisis when I decided out of the blue to sign up for Nanowrimo in January! I must be crazy given that I've never written anything longer than an essay. Is there anyone else out in and around Hastings? Here's to a very interesting month and making new friends!

This is my first year doing NaNo, but I'm more than ready to set aside my fear of the blank page. I'm also so excited to see so many other writers from Nebraska. How cool!

Too bad it's not November yet - Woke up to 8" of snow on the ground and still snowing. This would be a perfect day to curl up with my laptop in front of the fire and pound out a few thousand words. Guess I'll have to settle for blogging - visit it at http://www.outbacknebraska.com. Maybe I'll get a little work done on an outline, too.

Greetings from Kearney! UNK more specifically.
It's good to see I'm not the only one out here who is Nano-ing. I've been working away, stitching together a plot and molding characters. And I'm starting to get the itch to 'just write it already!'. But I'm working hard to be patient.
Hopefully, I can wade my way through my course work and make time to punch out a few thousand a day, come Novemeber. I've got several projects I should be working on, but Nano is so much more fun! I'm also in a fiction writing class currently, so I've been writing pretty consistently lately, which I hope will help.
Anyway, just thought I'd come and say hi, to my fellow Nano-ing Nebraskans.

Hello again from the Western end of the state. This is my 4th NaNo. I've only won once, but have loved every year I've been here. Not sure why, my stats show that I didn't participate last year, but I did. That's ok.
I don't usually plan anything out. This year, I'm doing things a little different. I've got a base idea about my story, and have the main characters lined out. Don't want to get too carried away with it, as I still want to give my characters room to go their own directions, but I thought I'd give this options a shot.
Anyway, I'm very excited for another year. I'm going to do my best to make it to the end this year.

I'm back too.
Last year, I did my rpg novel for Uru/Myst. Sadly, just lost (to heart conditions) the gaming friend who made the cover graphic and read the story afterward for me to make sure I met the copyright requirements from the game publisher.
This year, I'm writing my post graduate novel from Holly Lisle's How to Think Sideways program. It's been all through the program, except for the writing, meaning it's all planned out.
Hope to get it all done this year. I'll be cramming part of the days. We have a small house, with four relatives staying 10 days with us, and my daughter's wedding to fit in the month also.

Hi everyone. My name is Samantha, and I'm a senior at Hastings Senior High, in Hastings (well I hoped that would be obvious, but you never know...). I've been a member of NaNoWriMo for quite a few years, but have never won :c I'm trying to be optimistic for this year, though! I'd really be interested in having writing group meetings throughout November - if not in Hastings, then even in Grand Island?

My first year and I am anxiously awaiting November 1! Mine is historical fiction based on events in g,g,g grandmother's life. Cool stuff- civil war era- but it's so easy to get caught up in researching minutia and put off actually writing. I'm hoping that is what November will do for me- get me to put words down and worry about researching accuracy in December! :) The plot framework is there- thanks to real life events. I'm working on characters and subplot and overall themes right now! Great to know there are folks as close as Hastings and Kearney (I'm about 1 1/2 hours from both) in this with me!

This will be my 5th NaNo attempt... the first 3 failed flat... and laster year I didn't even get out of the gate (being laid off seriously re-arranges your priorities). This year.... I've got characters... worked out the plot today on my way home... AWWW CARP! I knew I forgot something! I need to do some urban planning...

Hello, all! From Beatrice here. I've never written anything more than the teacher required me to write. My longest novel is 3 or 4 chapters and I'm unhappy with some of what I have. A friend got me involved in this and I'm looking forward to November 1!

Hello, folks.
I moved out to western Nebraska this year from the Fort Collins, CO area. My new place is in Lodgepole, NE, east of Sidney. This is my third year. The first year, I hit just over 100K. Last year, I went over 160K.
I'm a member of the Horror Writers Association, and have written a few non-fiction items, including two for Visions (Hello, L.G.!) and one upcoming in Writer's Journal magazine. If you're interested, my website is here.
I look forward to another fun and stress-filled November.

Hello from Nebraska City- anyone else from around here?
I'm Jenny and I write contemporary and paranormal romance. This will be my first NaNo- I have a friend in Lincoln in my critique group who suggested I give it a shot. I just completed and submitted my first romance to Harlequin last week, now I have the dreaded wait...
For NaNo, I'm going to attempt a paranormal I've been thinking about with a Siren who isn't happy with the status quo of singing and sailors jumping to their deaths.
Best of luck to everyone!

Hi to all!
I see some familiar names out there! I'm Lisa, I live in Lincoln, and I write paranormal romantic mysteries. I also have a historical novel in progress.
I did much of my planning and plotting as part of Zette's 2 Year Novel class, (bows to Zette). I was trying to get a handle on the antagonist for that novel, and ended up with what I'm going to write for Nano this year. I doubt someone wakes up one morning and decides, "Gee, I think I'll go bomb Nebraska back to the Stone Age," so I'm looking forward to exploring the evolution of a home-grown terrorist. Eventually, I plan on integrating his story with what I'm writing for my 2YN, but I'm interested to see what this anti-hero has to say. I'm giving him 50,000 words to say it with, so it should be an interesting ride. I put the synopsis for the combined project on my profile, since it will ultimately end up as part of that novel.
For those of you around the Lincoln area, even though I haven't heard anything from the Lincoln Municipal Liason, I am wondering if anyone is interested in a kick off get-together, or in some write-ins. If you are, please respond to my post on the Lincoln forum.
A special wave to Jenny, the world's best writing partner! Looking forward to NaNo 2009!

Hello,
My name's Jen and I'm writing out here in Hay Springs. Kinda lonely since I haven't had any success conning--I mean convincing--anyone to take on the challenge with me. Dern it all. Anyhoo, I hope that everyone has a lot of fun writing. I'm trying something new and writing horror . . . it's hard to keep it from heading to a romance because that's what I usually write.
But it's fun and it's challenging and despite the wrist pain, shoulder aches, neck cramps, bleary eyes . . . I'm GREAT! Ha ha.
Happy writing
Jen

Got started a little late...But I'm still determined! Trying to work around papers and presentations and getting ready for student teaching. I really hope I get at least close enough to count for something. I'll be working overtime over Thanksgiving Break! Anything better than a tummy full of turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and yams while trying not to drool on your keyboard when you pass out? I'm ready. :)
