Who in China is joining Nanowrimo this year? I am in Hubei Province where I have been teaching English for the last 9 years. This will be my fifth year to do nanowrimo.

Hi Jennifer (and all you other Chinese Wrimos)!
My name is Jane. I'm in Beijing this fall studying Chinese at Beida. This'll be my fifth year as well, hopefully my fourth win. Does anyone know if the Beijingers do write-ins? This is my first time doing NaNo in China and I'm a big fan of write ins as they *definitely* help my word count. ^.^ Plus, it's always nice to take over a coffee shop for hours and hours on the weekends. Mmm, cofffee-fueled writing.
Anyone know what they want to write about? I always choose my topic last minute based on advice from random generators. If I have a little to much time to think about my characters, I get invested and then it's hard to kill 'em off. But I think this year I might do something sci-fi-y? (shrugs.) I don't know. Maybe zombies. I haven't done a zombie story yet. There's an idea...
---Jane

Hi Jane! How long have you been in China? I know that those in Beijing have done write-ins in past years. There have also been some write-ins down near Hong Kong. I am kind of far away from everyone so I have never been able to join in any of the write-ins. It is a nineteen hour train ride from where I am to Beijing. I hope you can find some others in Beijing to join you!
I am planning on writing a fantasy unless I change my mind between now and the beginning of November. It will actually be a continuation of two other stories I've written.

Hello! My name is Erin and I'm currently studying Chinese in Chengdu. This will be my second attempt, and hopefully first success, at Nanowrimo. Last year real life got to me, and while I know it's going to this year too, I'm hopefully planning for it a bit better. We'll have to see...
Right now I've got the basic idea for my novel, I'm just trying to determine if I should set it in Chengdu (I live in the Tibetan District, how could I resist?) or in Detroit, where I'm from. Hopefully once I get that figured out, I can really begin to figure this thing out. We'll see.
Anyways, good luck to you both!

你们好!I'm also in Beijing, have been here for 7 years. I work in special education and specialised learning support. Would love to do a write-in. Sadly, most of the write-ins were in Haidian last year, which is not convenient for me at all - that travel wastes precious writing time!
I'm in Chaoyang, I live at 798 (the Art District).

Hi there, I don't live in China but I will be in Hong Kong for a fair portion of the NaNoWriMo, so I was hoping I might be able to catch up with other people doing this crazy thing while I'm there, trying to bang out the old 1666 each day ..! There doesn't seem to be a Hong Kong specific group - do people post on here from HK? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

yes, this is the right place to look for people in Hong Kong. In the past couple of years there have always been at least several people from that area and I know that last year and the year before they did write-ins. I hope you can find some others there to join you this year!

Hello everyone!
My name is Megan and I'm studying for a semester in Chengdu. This is my second year doing NaNo and my first in China. :) If anyone else is here in Chengdu and maybe would like to set up some write ins or meet up, I'm definitely for it!
Good luck to everyone!

Yea! It is great to see someone else from Hubei! I am not exactly sure where Xinagfan is though. Do you know how far away you are from Yichang?

Hi everyone,
I'm Mitch. This is my fourth year in China (living in Guangzhou at the moment) and first time trying this out. Not sure how it all works...it's a competition? Guess I'll just play it by ear. I have an idea for a story which will be a soft thriller/romance. Hope we can all help each other push through.

Megan, which university are you at? 四川大学? I'm in Chengdu too, only at 西南抿子大学。 How are you liking Chengdu so far?

Apparently it's about a 3 hour train ride north, according to Google Maps.
I've been trying to convince my fellow teachers to do it with me (there's 10 Americans here) but I think only one is actually going to attempt it.

I actually just talked to a friend yesterday that said she and her family went to Xinag fan over the October holiday and she told me it was a 3 hour train ride from Yichang and I'm an hour outside of Yichang. I don't know if that would be closer or farther away.
I have one friend here who I think is going to join nanowrimo this year. She joined last year, but she didn't finish.

Hi Mitch! Welcome! I don't know if I would exactly call it a competition as in we are not competing against each other, but we are all here to encourage each other to reach our goal of writing 50,000 words. It's for all of us who want to write a novel, but need a goal and a deadline. Some people do have word wars to see who can write the most in a certain amount of time and there can also be some competition between regions.
I really love Nanowrimo! I've always enjoyed writing and it is nice to do it with so many other people and knowing that they are all doing the same thing I am doing gives me the push I need to get it done.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. Yeah, I've been wanting to get some ideas out on "paper" for a while so what better way to do than with the support of thousands of other people. 50,000 seems pretty achievable...bring it on!

if you're in Yidu, I think you're closer.
----------I went to Shanghai over the break pretty much because I could and I've never been. I spent too much money, and now NaNo's almost here and I've barely thought about it since summertime.

That's great! I see you are in Wuhan. That's a five hour bus ride for me. I just went to Wuhan over the October break. A friend of mine and I went to get a turkey. :) We bought it and brought it back and it is sitting in the freezer waiting for Thanksgiving.

Hi, I'm based in Hong Kong.
This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I'd love to find writing buddies who want to do a write-in.
Anyone else from HK around here?
RosC, when will you be in HK?

Hey folks, I'm in China too! Currently in Northern Beijing, at the University of Petroleum in Changping. My first year in China, first year in NaNoWriMo, and actually those two are going to be linked. Going for the rebel option and actually writing about my time here in China. Kindof a memoir, kindof a travel book, kindof an intro to Chinese culture and affairs, I'm just taking NaNoWriMo as the impetus to actually sit down and write it.
As if NaNoWriMo weren't enough, I'll also be busy studying to take the HSK in November as well. Plus 22 hours a week of normal classes, plus all the time I spend helping my friends with their English, plus my plans to study the erhu (the 2 stringed traditional instrument), plus I still want to see more famous places in Beijing, I'm going to have a busy November. But with a bit of planning and enough fore notice, I'd be happy to meet up for a write in at a tea house (no coffee for me :P).

Yes, I'm studying at 四川大学 . So far I really like Chengdu, especially those rare sunny, clear days. I definitely take advantage of them when they come around. How about you? How long have you been here in China? I've only been here almost two months. I can honestly say I really love it here. I will definitely be back when it's time to go back home.

Hi, I'm another Heather in Shandong Province. I've been teaching aviation English in China for four years. This is my first NanNoWriMo. It's great to be part of a forum here since highly doubtful there are any WriMos in my city (Linyi). The novel I will be working on is very vaguely about a hurricane (I'm from South Texas originally).

If people are interested in doing a Wuhan write in, I could help with trying to scope out a suitable location. I know the area well enough.
