Just wanted to remind the people Southwest where the writer's meetings have been held:

Teahouse on Sweetwater at Lexington in Sugar Land (in the Kroger shopping center)
Has: Bubble Tea (some coffees)
Wifi: free!
Cool People: Of course!

We had a great group down that way last year. Although I've moved inside the Loop, I still meet with these guys fairly regularly and it's always a blast. Hope to see you out there!

Smooshie here, part of the Southwest Teahouse Crew (official title). Can't wait to meet the newbies!

I'm busy with my first adult job this year--9th grade English--but that's no excuse to not complete NaNoWriMo 2009! I came so close to actually finishing my novel last year, and this year I want to win NaNo AND write the ending of my novel. I'll be writing most nights at the Teahouse as often as work permits, so please come, join in, and hold my feet to the fire!

I guess I'm technically a Southwesterner this year. I'm at HBU, which is right off 59 at Fondren. I'm so used to being up north, 'cause that's where my family lives. XD I'll try to make it out to the Teahouse write-ins at least a couple times!

I met my husband in Sugarland for lunch today and decided that since I was over here I would come check out the Teahouse. I'm sitting here digesting my meal then I have to decide what drink I want. There's so many choices, I can't decide! Anyway, I love that there's power strips everywhere plus the wi-fi is decent and I think that this would be an awesome place to meet-up. I wouldn't even mind driving from Katy.

Hi Toasty!
I was just over there today! I was across the street at Starbucks. Anyway, I'd meet there. My sister lives in Katy and she's doing Nano this year too, so I can also drive to Katy. She's also working on something right now that she wants to finish in October, so we're meeting when we can. We often meet in the First Colony area because I live in Missouri City and it's sort of halfway. Also, we like to shop after! :)
You and any other Katy'ers should meet us sometime!

Definitely Kristi. I don't know any good places to meet-up in Katy, but I really don't mind driving to the First Colony area, it's a great place and there are several neat places to go and write there. I just moved into the Katy area in May with my husband so I don't really know a lot of people around here yet. That's why I'm so eager to do some meet-ups. :)

I'm back!!! Was in Nashville for the last week and had very limited computer access, but I worked on outlining this year's story.

I will probably bow out of the word war challenge (if we have one this year) as I have ten people coming for Thanksgiving, and since they all live at least 6 hours away, some are arriving on the Sunday before and others aren't leaving until the week after. All these people are coming because my first grandbaby will be here!! I have pictures on my laptop and expect everyone at the Tea House to ohh and ahh over him.

This may be the first year I don't reach the winner's circle.

Congratulations, Vicki!
Chances of me going to the Southwest area are pretty slim but I definitely want to oooh and aahhh over the new grandbaby so please bring pix to the kick-off too.
I'm so happy for you!

Hey guys.

Unfortunately, the Teahouse is too far away for me to get there. No money for the bus either. So, for this lonely person in the far southwest *corner of Bellaire and Kirkwood* I'll be doing my write ins over at the Library nearby.

Hopefully I'll be able to either hitch a ride to the Kickoff party or have the bus money to get to there and back.

Hey, anyone who doesn't know me, I'm Sumaya, I've done NaNo for the last two years.

And this year is gonna suck, because private school = more homework than I can bear, but I'm still going to do it. And we need to get this board to the thread count of last year. :)

Edit: For those of you who say I'm the darkest writer ever, check out the synopsis for this year.

Hi guys!!!

I'm back this year and determined not to be a Nano dropout (or write-in phantom either) this second time around!! My poor characters got left hanging last year - I still feel bad for the poor girl found dead in the dumpster. But moving on to a new plot now - just have to figure out what that will be.

I'm really looking forward to getting things kicked off. Can't wait to meet / re-meet y'all!!!

Oh god this is so near the place I live right now! I definitely want to come. If I can manage some spare time, then yes.

Are there any dates set for the write ins? I am so glad. This will be my first Nano in Texas :)

The write-ins at the Tea House in Sugarland were on Sunday afternoons last year. Some of us also got together at the Panera bread during the week while the kiddos were in school. We really just sort of wing it, and if you plan to write at a particular location, just post it here (give us some advance notice) and you never know who might show up!

Great! Thanks nuttyknitter :) This is going to be fun.

By the way, any meet-ups planned on our side of town? Pre-Nano, I mean.

Hi guys! If you don't know me ( pretty likely), I'm Rachel. I've done NaNo for the last two years and lost both times, so I'm hoping I'll manage it this year. I wasn't able to make it to any of the write-ins last year, but hopefully I'll be able to go to some this year. So... yes. Hi. :D

OMG RACHEL!!!!! I know you!!!!

Copious use of exclamation points irritate me profoundly, but in this case it is necessary. You'd better come to the write-ins this year or I will track you down and murder you. Slowly. With intestines involved.

OMG IT'S A SUMAYA WHUT

Haha, have a lack of punctuation to balance out over-punctuation. I'm hoping that since I made it to the October things but not the November things last year, I'll be able to make it to the write-ins this year because hopefully all my October Saturdays will be occupied by band competitions this year. Maybe it'll be some kind of karmic balancing act or something? But yes. I will attempt to avoid the possible death by intestines. *nodnod*

That could work... possibly. Plus we have writeins all year anyway, because we are just that awesomely us. The southwest is the only group that does that, for the record.

Except I will have debate stuff, which makes me sad. I know I'm going to at least one tournament in November, and there's one next week. The one in November is in Austin, too... :(

Sumaya, threats of evisceration are best saved for when we need to inspire someone to improve their word count. :D

@Smooshie - I do believe it is yet to be decided.

@Peter - she's my friend. I can threaten to eviscerate her if I want to. It's like part of the code.

Hmmm. Does SL have an ML, or whatever Peter's 'job' was last year? Is that the person who organizes those things? We need to get on that. The Sugar Land crew seems to be growing!

@Sumaya: gotcha...threaten away!

@Nancy: the Municipal Liaison is over all of Houston. That is who arranges the kickoff, TGIO party, etc. The Area Liaisons (like me last year) just help organize events in their part of town. SW is pretty organized, as it is. If you want to take the scepter of ultimate power in the SW (scepter sold separately), feel free. It's not a complicated gig. Most of the work is already done, giving locations and times of write-ins, and what have you.

I thought Peter was still the AL... but you'd be good too, Nancy!

We need a SW mailing list. It's getting more and more complicated as this group gets bigger and bigger.

Since I haven't heard anything from the current ML, I haven't left the role of AL. I wouldn't mind stepping down if someone still living in the SW and likely to go to more SW events wants to take the role.

There seems to be a really great group here in the Sugar Land area! Definitely worth dropping any spare moment!

(I forgot to introduce myself. Hi guys. The name is Rita! I've done Nano for a couple of years now but this time I decided to make a new account as a new start for myself failure wise. All the other attempts have been futile so far but I am determined to win this year *crosses fingers*)

Btw, is SW having its own Kick-off aside from the official Houston one?

We really wouldn't expect Peter to keep driving all this way even though we really like him as our AL.
I'd vote for Nancy too, if she's willing. I have too many other things going on this Nov. or I'd throw my hat in the ring.

@ Ilyralen - Yeah, the SW group is pretty active (even if I do say so myself), last year we had the most posts out of any other thread on the Houston board, which was pretty amazing. :) You'll come to love everyone.

And I'll back Nancy or whoever wants to be AL. I'd forgotten that Peter moved - are you even still zoned with us? Even if you aren't, you have to stay. This is an order.

Uhm, and I think we did have a second kick off last year, as well as a second TGIO party, but it really depends on the AL.
