...okay, no one else is doing it, so I'll just go ahead.

Hi! I'm J. Daniel, I'm a college student in Elmira, and this is my third NaNoWriMo.

And it's my first intro thread, so I've probably done something wrong...

Yay! I'm glad someone started :)
I'm Stacey, this will be my first NaNoWriMo. I found out about it mid-month last year, and have been looking forward to participating ever since.
I write for a living, so hope I can find the motivation to do so after hours too! Still picking a plot.

Hi all!

I'm Nicki. This will be my second NaNoWriMo. Last year I only lasted until Nov 12. I had one freelance gig last year and it was in politics. By mid-Nov, I was ready to crawl in a hole. I wrote 14,400 words.

This year I have two freelance gigs going on and one is writing so I hope, like Stacey, that it doesn't slow down my NaNoWriMo. I have yet to decide what I am going to write about this year.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Caitlin, and I'm going to be the ML this year for this region. I'm a Cornell Grad student in statistics, and I've done Nanowrimo 4 other times (winning 3 of them). I normally write young adult fantasy, but I'm planning on writing something a little different this year - I'm not entirely sure what that's going to be yet, though.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you over the course of the month, as we meet up for write-ins and kick off parties. If you need any nano-related help, don't hesitate to contact me. Welcome back to all of the returners, and welcome to all the newbies. We're so glad you're here!

Caitlin

Ohai; I'm Joshua Eric Turcotte ... I'm technically living in Corning which is more or less the southern tier, but last time around they seemed to prefer having their meetings by way of Binghamton which was just way too far for me, so I hopped over to Ithaca instead. No one seemed to mind too much.

Anyhow, I started last year, won writing something called 'With Earth In Mind' which, afterward, I promptly discarded in favor of an episodic rewrite by the same time. Starting in Jan, I wrote 25,000 words a month (5 chapter of 5000 words, give or take)... and kept that pace for 5 straight months, finishing the first of five 'arcs' for lack of a better word. I've installed a significant buffer of several months to allow each to get mulled over, edited, re-edited, edited by a different set of eyes, and then re-edited again, and have since pushed the final versions of episode 1 and 2 to amazon's kindle. 3 will go this october, 4 in november, and so on.

The summer, however, put me off my pace, and I'm still trying to get the 2nd arc (episodes 6-10) designed and off the ground. I meant to do sort of a pre-nanowrimo-wrimo this month, catching up with 6 and 7, but that didn't take. Next month, during nano, though, I will get two out of the door. That's the plan.

Hi all,

Heather, Newfield. Nano number four here. I'm an ICU Veterinary Technician; not sure if my new schedule will allow me to finish again, but I think I'll give it a shot. Had adamantly decided not to participate this year and then some characters started bouncing around in my brain...hate when that happens, buggers. Always looking for more Nano buddies to motivate me.

Hi, I'm Ginger Hawthorne(pen names for the WIN, I picked this one a couple years back and still love it), otherwise known as Beka, and this will be my sixth Nano.

I'm a new transplant here in Ithaca, and actually may be living up in Syracuse temporarily by the time November hits, but I'm looking at a house for rent today that hopefully my girlfriend and my dog and two deranged cats can move into soon so U-Haul can stop calling me about the trailer I still have and am paying $20 a day (on top of the initial $700 rental) for.

Erm... Hi, I'm Ginger, and I'm an oversharing, easily distracted writer.

Hi, Ginger.

Anyway, I don't know if I will be making any of the meetups or anything, but on the off chance I DO, I thought it would be peachy for me to introduce myself! ^^

Hi, I'm a freshman in Cornell Univ. This is my third year trying NanoWrimo, and hopefully will be my second time winning. The odds are 50-50, I guess.

I'm sort of "coming out" in regards to my writing - I haven't written with others or told people about my writing or anything really since elementary school. So I'm pretty excited to meet you all! :)

Hi, I'm Rebecca, a 5th year grad student in astronomy at Cornell. This is my 6th year doing NaNo -- I've won the last three years, including the year I took my qualifying exam the same month*.

I really enjoy write-ins, which I totally credit with how I won. Normally I write fantasy -- last year, I did SF, but I'm going back to fantasy this year.

* No, I don't know how I did that either, but it was my first win and astonished me.

Hey all. I'm Jen, and I've done Nano for...7 years now? Jeebus. I have never won. Yes, I am aware that this is very very sad and needs to be changed. I am a senior, so I should probably be spending more time applying to grad schools than writing novels...but on the other hand, I'd really like to say that I've written a novel before I graduated. I MLed in Ithaca for two years in 2006 and 2007, but my status still says that I am? I'm a little confused about that. Anyhoo, I hope to attend more write-ins, because those were definitely where I cranked out the most words in the past, and I'd like to stick to a strict schedule. Can't wait to meet you all (if I haven't met you already.)

Hi everyone!

I'm so glad to see a bunch of people here this year. The forums were a little quiet last year. :[

So, hello, I'm Varlot. This is my third year doing NaNo, and I completely love it. I won last year. Hurray.
I'm a senior in high school, and a Girl Scout so I'm not anticipating having any free time this month (November being cookie season for us, and also college application season.)

But I'm going to try anyway!

Hi, I'm Alex, and this I've spectacularly failed at NaNo in the past. I always went in with good intentions and always got sidetracked by the sillier things in life. This year there will be two new things for me. The first being I'm not working right now as I've taken time off to slowly get the homefront in order for the arrival of our first child (fortunately not until March so I'm not a mad man quite yet). The second thing is I'm going to try a completely new subject matter for writing. In the past i've tried general fantasy-esque types of writing. Recently, while seeing Zombieland, and discussing my enjoyment of practically any movie in which zombies are involved, someone asked why I never tried writing a zombie novel. I laughed at first. Silly notion. A silly notion that over the next several days consumed my brain. So that's what I'm going to try for this year. It should be interesting, and fun, and maybe I won't bail out after its barely even started this time.

HI all!

I'm Don and like some others, I swore this off like you swear off alcohol the morning after overindulging. But I've got an idea and want to see how far it takes me :). This will be my 4th NaNo and I even made it my first year. I'm a paper-shuffler up at Cornell during the day and spend my nights writing, mostly short stories. Crazy schedule, but I'm sure I can make it to at least one write-in, sometime.

Glad to join the dance!

-Don

Hullo all. The name's Jojo. I'm a senior in high school, and have given NaNo my best for the past two years. 'My best' fell sadly short last year, but I was successful my first time around. This year's idea came to me all at once after 45 minutes of really loud, intense techno music. I will leave it to you to fathom what that means for my coming creation. I can certainly make it to write-ins and the like if they are organized, and can't wait for November to begin.

Hello all, I'm Peter, a Sophmore at IHS. This is my second year at NaNoWriMo. I won it last year, even though I started a week too late. Still not sure if I'll be able to make it to the 50,000 mark, due to taking some ridiculously work-heavy classes this year (AGH WHY), but I'm keeping my confidence high, and I'm sure not all of my homework is THAT essential.

Hi all -
I'm a mom and still working on making Halloween costumes for the kids but starting to think Nano.
This will be my third year and I'm really looking forward to another crazy November.
I started last year with no clue what my novel was going to be and it looks like I'm on that path again.
It's scary but I do love it when the characters just start walking and talking and doing stuff.
My typical 'free time' for writing is after midnight but maybe one of these days I'll make it to a write-in.
Good luck to everyone - it really is amazing how many things are less important than writing when you come right down to it!

Hey!

I'm Em, currently a sophomore undergrad in Cornell. I first heard about this from a friend a few years ago, and attempted it that year (11th grade) - failed, but not too spectacularly. Got almost 30k words in. This year, I have a plot that intrigues me and have told quite a few friends about this project, so the prospect of humiliation if I fail again is a strong motivator!

I like urban fantasy, and am writing something along those lines.

Hope to meet more people from the university and in the area!

Hey everybody! I'm Kathy, a freshman at IC, and this is my first time participating in NaNoWriMo. I came across it at the end of November last year, and looked forward to it for a while before I forgot about it... Fortunately, a friend of mine reminded me at the beginning of the school year, and now I'm ready to start writing! I don't have any ideas yet, but it'll come to me... :)

Here's looking to a successful November for us all!

Hello everyone~

I'm Tiina, and this will be my second WriMo. I first gave it a shot back in '06 and didn't finish. I did about 10% then lost my plot. Alas, I was a highschool freshman. This year I'm a freshman at Ithaca college (hey Kathy! ^_~ I'm the one who reminded her about NaNo) and I'm an English major. I do believe I'm attempting the impossible, adding WriMo on top of all my other excessive papers, but I want to finish this year! My roommate will be participating in WriMo with me, and we're both hoping to attend some of the write-ins around the commons. I have a horrible tendency to go back to edit my work, so I'm hoping you guys can help keep me on track!
I'm still working on plots and such, but I have some characters, and a main character forming, as well as a setting. I'll be writing in a steampunk neo-Victorian England type setting. It'll be called either 'Joker's Prelude' or 'A Fool's Prelude' - I'm not sure yet. 8D;; I'm a horrible procrastinator, so I've already set up my internet blocks for the month and my homepage is NaNoWriMo - maybe it'll keep me focused. (One can hope, eh?)

Look forward to meeting some of you!

Hello hello!

I'm Zoë, and this is my second attempt at wrimo. I attempted it without much of a plan a few years back and ended up only writing a prologue. This year, I'm going in better prepared. I'm a freshman major at IC and that roommate Tiina mentioned (yes, her name is spelled that way). I'm also a terrible procrastinator and went with the whole NaNoWriMo = homepage and internet block thing.

I'm writing a fantasy story in a medieval/ anachronistically industrial setting, focusing on the various ways that people handle an inability to become who/what they want.

I'm still playing with titles, and am leaning heavily towards The Eraborn at this point.

Hopefully, we'll all make it through to the end of November!

Hi! I'm Melissa and I just joined. I've been meaning to do this for years and years. Just yesterday I was telling my partner that whenever I have a free five minutes, I fill it up with ten minutes worth of things to do. Apparently I just did it again. :) Looking forward to it!

Hey everyone! I'm Em, and I'm a sophomore undergraduate journalism student at Ithaca College. I've been writing since I was four years old, but this is my first NaNoWriMo, so I'm pretty excited to see how it goes. My novel still doesn't have a title, but I've got a pretty solid concept (hooray vampire parodies!) and I'm really curious to see if I can do the 50k. Wish me luck, I'm super excited to be a part of all of this.

Hi all!
I'm Jennifer and this is my first Nanowrimo! I first heard about it at the beginning of the year, so I've been waiting for this to come around again. I work in the mental health field, so if you need any information about mental illnesses or meds, I can try to help. I have *no* idea what I'm going to write about, but I always have ideas floating around in my head.

Looking forward to meeting people and getting some awesome writing done!

Hi everyone!
I'm Ryan Anderson, another Cornell Astronomy grad student. This is my second year doing NaNo and hopefully will be my second win... The goal this year is to write something worth revising and showing to family members. Last year I wrote fantasy as a change of pace from my sci-fi-like day job (I shoot lasers and look for places to land robots on other planets) but this year I'm going with sci-fi.

If you have any questions about astronomy or science for your novel, feel free to ask!

Hi all,

I'm another Erin, and this is my first real NaNoWriMo. Last year my friends tried to have a Local Novel Writing Month in February, but I failed at that. I hope I make it this time!

I'm a first year grad student at Cornell in Biochem. If you need help with any biology and/or medical facts, I will try to help you! I'm inspired to see other grad students here. If ya'll can do it, hopefully I can too.

I look forward to meeting some of you at Write-Ins. Good luck, and happy writing!
