Hey Flagstaff! I am not listed as such in the forum yet, but I passed the test of awesomeness for my 4th year of NaNoWriMo and I hope that I can be a great ML.
I thought I'd get a bit of a head start with the planning of what I hope is a great kickoff party. The kickoff party can also give us a good indicator of when and where we might have write-ins.
The best times for me are Monday after 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday after about 1 p.m., Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., and any time on Sunday.
Thursday 10/29 could work well for a regional kickoff party, and in a pinch I can get work off on Saturday 10/31.
Let me know what works best for you in terms of scheduling!
Thanks in advance!

YAY!!! I am SOO EXCITED! I want it to be November RIGHT NOW! Not that I have ANY idea what to write about yet...
I think any day during the week after 5 is perfect. Mondays are the best in my opinion. If we could avoid Sundays, that would be awesome.
Also, my vote is sooner = better for the kickoff party. Maybe earlier in the last week of October?
(CAN'T WAIT!!!!!)

Best enthusiasm so far! There may or may not be a NaNoWriMo merit badge sticker for that!
I added google calendar stuff to the region, and I added a few potential times for kickoff parties. I made one for about an hour and a half each day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Last year Campus Coffee Bean worked great for parties and write-ins, they have a lot of space as well as outlets and food, and are generally really nice about the entire situation.
We've also had parties/gatherings at various downtown locations, along with Peter Piper Pizza, which worked out because it has a lot of space and a lot of pizza, and it's not too expensive.
Has anybody else got places they'd like to suggest? I may just need to check with whichever group owns your preferred location and we'll see if we can make it happen.
Depending on how many of us are NAU students (it was like, a lot of us last year) we may be able to have gatherings on-campus, I may see if I can arrange to use one of the conference rooms in the union or the duBois center, which should mean that the public can join us on-campus too.
I also hear that we're going to have the participation of most of a large NAU English class, I don't know how that'll work out but I have been in contact with the unofficial ML for that particular class, so we may or may not need to have multiple kickoff parties depending on what they want to do, I'm not 100% sure yet.

Oooh, what class is doing NaNo?
Also, Sandra Raymond from the English Department sort of had some unofficial gatherings for her students who were doing NaNo. She would probably like to be involved in an on-campus event.
And I vote we have at least ONE write-in at Peter Piper Pizza. Because pizza = awesome.
(I have a feeling I'm not going to get very much homework done this November....)

I think it's the creative writing class doing NaNo -- One of the MLs we had from a previous year is actually in that class, and told me she was appointed official sub-ML for that class, as most of the students hadn't done or heard of NaNo before, I believe.
When we get some more people signed up and reading the forum we'll have to talk about where to do write-ins. I'm fine with anywhere in Flagstaff as I have access to an automobile this year, although I know not everyone does, and some people just like certain places.
I'm totally up for a peter piper write-in, although there are fewer outlets in peter piper, so if anyone has plans to haul along a desktop or a laptop minus battery, we have to be very specific about where we can sit.
Also, I'm thinking of pre-doing homework from November for most if not all of my classes.

Hmmm... Friday would be best for me, but I see that's not one of the *better* options. I wouldn't mind spending Halloween doing a NaNo kickoff party, though. We can discuss writing... IN COSTUME! Or something. We could at least play one of those cheap "Halloween Party Remix" CDs that you could probably compile yourself with iTunes, though. :P

I'm pretty much usually always free, although I kinda have plans on Halloween, but could easily duck out at maybe 10ish or 11ish so I can meet up with people and start writing right at midnight. :P
The outlet problem is a problem at Peter Piper, but if we were to schedule ahead to get the Adult Dining Section reserved (particularly that orange booth), we could scoot over the other tables and incorporate a surge protector for laptops and that could be ample space for a good 12 people or more. They deal with such arrangements all the time. (too bad I don't have that employee discount anymore...)
I like Campus Coffee Bean, of course, and Bookman's is always fun too (and their cafe is open now, which is sweet).

Yeah, unfortunately outlets seem to be a pretty big problem regardless of the actual location. I may need/want to just buy myself another power strip or extension cord so all of us that are toting laptops with less than epic batteries would have the opportunity to plug in.
As a note about mobile computers, I do have a spare mobile computer I'll be bringing to write-ins for the use of a wrimo or wrimos who doesn't have their own, I thought about grabbing another but won't really be able to in time, although if there's demand I do have another friend with an extra we may be able to use.
It sounds right now like the best options are either earlier in that week, or on Saturday the 31st. I usually work 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday but I may be able to get that shift off.
Between tuesday, thursday and Saturday, what sounds the best?
Oh, and I do see there's still some votes for Friday, which could also potentially work, I would need/want to get some of the shift covered, however.
Write-ins can be held multiple times a week if need be, if it works best for some people on Fridays (but I can't really do Fridays) and best for other people on Tuesdays/Thursdays (which work great for me) Just as an example.

During the week I vote for Tuesdays. Thursdays are BAD. Too many important things to do on Thursday nights (read: watch Community, The Office, and 30 Rock).
As for the kickoff, I would be okay with doing it on Halloween if we had to, but I would much rather do it earlier in the week. Again, I vote Tuesday. And I'm going home this weekend and I KNOW we have an extra power strip, so I could probably bring one, too.
Yay! October is half way over! WE ARE SOOO CLOSE!

Hello! Count me in. I'm an old codger (meaning not an NAU student for multiple eons) but willing to work wherever. Tuesdays are OK but Thursdays better. Saturdays--well, my husband has a monopoly on my time that night ;)

It sounds like Tuesdays it is, then! Are we still thinking of next Tuesday for the kickoff too, or is this just for weekly write-ins?
If it's necessary we can hold multiple write-ins per week, I'd be happy to hold a mini-write in mid-Saturdays or Sundays or late Friday evening.
I also want to let everyone know that I have stickers for you all. So... you should all come to the kickoff party, and think about inviting your friends to write novels too.

HOLY CRAP! Kickoff is NEXT WEEK!?!?!? I can't wait! I am so excited!!!!!!
And STICKERS? WOW. This is going to be GREAT.
I can't help it, guys. I am just TOO EXCITED TO SPEAK IN LOWERCASE!!!!!!!
Does anyone else shout the caps locked words in their head? I do...
So, can we set a day/time/place for the kickoff, please? Maybe Tuesday at like 7... where, though?

The actual location for kickoff isn't too important as we won't need laptops/desktops/etc. So I'd say some sort of food location that's pretty affordable that we could all meet at. I could set up a party space for us at Peter Piper, where we had our kickoff last year. We could also ask about large group seating at places like Garcia's, or we could even go to CCB.
It depends on how many people we think will be there. So far it sounds like it may almost be ten, but I know for a fact that there are people in the region who haven't signed up for the forum or posted anything yet.

I absolutely positively cannot do Tuesday anythings. I have classes literally from 11am until 9:30 at night. Poo. Haha. Oh well. I guess I will be nano-ing on my lonesome this year. It's funny, because I actually have ridiculously free weeks. Tuesday is literally the only day I can't do it. Four day weekends. No classes after 2pm any day. Except for Tuesday. Lmao.
Well, have extra fun for me, kk? I love you guys, and I'm sure I'll be lurking around the forums a ridiculous ammount now that I know they're actually open. I'm so behind this year on everything. >.<; I blame it on not getting those ML emails reminding me of stuff anymore.
Oh! And on the subject of my intermediate fiction class and the sub-MLing I have unwillingly been roped into after my retirement from cat herding after the running a whole country fiasco (roflmao), I only see them Wednesdays, so... yeah. Any info you want/need me to pass on to them, I need a little in advance so I can be sure to let them all know. =) So nanomail/email me anything especially important so I don't miss it among all the forum posts, please?

I was hoping to come up from the Prescott Region and crash your party, like in past years, but Tuesday night is also our kick-off. Phooey.

It totally replies that after I kinda-sorta decide upon Tuesday as the official date for write-ins and the kickoff party, like three people go "but Tuesday's like the worst possible day!"
I'm totally willing to have double write-ins, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday or even Sunday or Saturday.
I'm also still willing to rearrange the kickoff party if it would still be fine on Thursday for most people. Both days work equally well for me, and it really is just a matter of what works for everyone else in the region.
Also, I'd totally love to have visitors from the Prescott region, either (or both!) for our kickoff or our regularly scheduled write-ins.

Next Tuesday is almost completely impossible for me as far as kickoff dates go. :( I have a fairly sizeable project due the very next day in one of my classes, and, understandably, I kinda need Tuesday to finish. Wednesday would be fine, but definitely not Tuesday. And I have classes until 6:10 every weekday except Friday.
I could attend Thursday write-ins, but probably not Tuesdays.
I know, I know, can't please everyone, but I feel like I have an obligation to go lest Cory murderize me. :P

Thursdays are lovely for me. Plus, it has the added bonus of me being able to inform all those fiction class peoples about it. But, ya know, whatever you want and can do you do, cause I am perfectly capable of herding myself and them. =) Go ex-MLs. We are low maintenance optional attendance boosters. *thumbs up*

I don't know how long the write-ins will last or when during the night they will be, because 9 is a bit late, I think campus coffee bean had the habit of kicking us out by then.
It sounds like Thursday is decided though, for the most part. I'll send another regional e-mail today letting everyone know.
Now to decide where to have the kickoff party, I need to let them know we'll be there.
Any ideas? We could get mexican food or pizza or just meet up at campus coffee bean, whatever's fine.

Yeah, I SUPPOSE I can watch them online. The sacrifices I make for NaNo... :)
Peter Piper Pizza or Campus Coffee Bean would probably be the best for our kickoff. They're not really sit-down places, so it will be easier for people to come and go and we can set up a NaNo section pretty easily. Peter Piper might be better because it's bigger and we'll have more room to seclude ourselves from the rest of the world. Plus, the food is as good as the fun :)

I have asked for enough room for fifteen people, and it's my hope that I've severely under-estimated the number of people we will have. I also asked for the purple tables closest to the door, so we'll be right there and easy to find.
