Well as for me... I have no wicked clue about what I'm going to do yet. Don't let that scare you...it doesn't scare me yet.
I haven't lost faith in the God of writing and I pray it'll come sooner than later.
I usually start with character sketches...and make them meticulously. The rest just flows.
Rearranging will happen only if I'm pleased with what I see.
I believe I've been of no help...and that shud make u feel that you're better off on your own.
Chee-rio!

Yep, from Mumbai.
This seems crazy enough to actually get some results..but, does anyone have any faint plotlines in mind or what? I have absolutely no idea how to go about it..
I think what's most likely is, I'm gonna sit all intent on writing and be hit by a huge writer's block..

I've actually had an idea for a novel for years, so I'm using NaNoWrimo to actually get off my lazy ass and do something about it. But if you have no idea, I suggest just read a few of the days newspapers or check out a few online news sites - I always get inspired by some of the stories on the news.

I'm from Mumbai too and this is my first try at anything like serious writing. I have written short stories before, but nothing like a novel.
I have joined a group which is preparing for Nano and two of the tips they gave was to get the characters worked out in detail, and the settings all crystallized. We have even been set the task of actually trying to draw the setting, believe it or not, that helps to write it out later. Doesn't matter how badly you draw, the attempt to create it sharpens the mind's eye!
A plot outline is good, it can be made more and more detailed as the book develops. It also helps to keep the time-line of the story accurate.

hi everyone. Me from Mumbai too.
Either of you guys have participated in any earlier NaNoWriMos before? It sounds interesting. My friend sent me this link and i jumped at it. I have been thinking of writing a novel since a long time and cant really see why i never did. This seems honestly fun and plausible. I hope my excitement lasts through the month. Just knowing the fact that there are more like me writing their first drafts at the same precise time makes me calm and focused. Hopefully it helps you guys too.
Cheers to all and lets all rock it.
It would be great to make friends on here and later figure out that somehow we all ended up being published authors. Hehhe. Comeon the mind wanders the pipe dream starts! Best of luck everyone. Lets all atleast finish the first drafts!

Hi people. I am a former Mumbai-ite, now in Pune.
Landed up on this link while browsing in office hours (my favourite passtime!). I have never written a novel before - just short stories. So this will be my first attempt at writing something bigger. Hope I can somehow pull it off!

I'm beginning to panic...just a wee bit. i have a feeling that like the previous two years, im just going to sit on my idea and watch the day pass by every day in November.
Do you think meeting up fellow writers from Mumbai will help???
I think it may...
Dear God, atleast this time I'd like to finish that book.

I'm from Mumbai too.
Unfortunately, FY BE is taking it's toll stress wise and with respect to free time, So I'm not too optimistic about this. Similar thing happened last year with my Std. XII prelims.
Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained, I say..:D

Hi all!
I'm from Mumbai too. I landed on Nano by pure chance on 1st November last year. Got excited and signed up but, instead of a novel, I came up with a string of stories by the end! So this year, I'm determined to pull a novel off. I've got a plot idea - but it needs to be fleshed out and drawn like helpfully suggested by someone.
Never written a novel - like many of us here - so i'm getting more and more jittery as this year's november gets closer!
I hope we can egg each other on when either of us are in a slump. And I've learnt from last year that meeting up and sharing notes over coffee can actually help a lot!
Best of luck!
Cheers :)

Hi All,
My name is Keshav. 44/M/Mumbai... married with one wife, one son, two turtles & a pug.
I took part last year at nanowrimo as well as scriptfrenzy (which happens in April) and completed both. Did about 65K words.
I won't say that it's a breeze, 'cos it's not... but it is not impossible. And i's great fun!
Some smart time management required. I used a pen drive to carry the file from the home PC to the office PC (where I'd cram a few hundred words whenever something struck me and I got a break from the boring stuff)
One big tip: While writing, switch off that modem. Don't keep the mail/ messenger / facebook/ orkut / whatever running in parallel. Switch off the world... and plunge into a new one!
cheers and all the best!

Heya!
Wow, this forum seems to be a blessing. Sue me for saying this, but really, misery does love company!
I did the NaNo last year, and I finished/won it, but I felt like a complete failure coz I HATED what I wrote. I just hope that doesn't happen again. In any case, this year, I'm sure I'll have more support coz of this forum. So yay!
Good luck to everyone!

I'm in Mumbai too. My first time on NaNoWriMo but not my first attempt at novel-writing. I was a participant in NovelRace and have the dubious distinction of being the frontrunner among those who haven't yet completed. But that goes on hold for the month of December. One more book on the run!

It's the first day and all I am looking at is the word count. The scene is there in my head. It's horribly difficult to get it on paper. My editor is screaming for editing the rubbish I have typed but I am just going ahead.
It should get better and I hope I make this a habit.

Woah! I was thinking today of drawing the 'room' in which was part of a scene, for clarity of thought and sequence.
That tip helps!
Is the group still on? Online discussions?

It's a good idea if Mumbai participants can meet maybe once a week,
to help or just inspire each other.
I am a 49 yr old guy registering since 2003 but doing it seriously for the
first time. This year I have a clear story, and I know the beginning (already
posted 4500 words) and I know the end. The middle part is where there
could be some turbulence.
Anyone good at organising get-togethers ? Maybe every Sat or Sun in
Nov ? Maybe in some coffee shop ? Ideas ?

I think worrying about it or trying to write it in sequence is not the deal.
Just write, write, write. You will have to prune and throw out some stuff later, add in clarifications and background or setting, etc. to make it a coherent whole. I am not trying to even make chapters connect, just writing it out as separate episodes. Get the ideas out, polish it later.
The beginning is proving easy, the stuff seems to have been in my head waiting to pour out. The middle will be difficult, so I'll just omit it for now and go on to the end and then build a bridge between the two! Making sense?
I'm leaving all my mail and chat on, it gives me as much stimulation as I want. I ignore it anyway in the frenzy of writing, in between the interaction is refreshing.
