Hello and welcome!

I am looking forward to this NaNoWriMo year.

Before we start the 2009 competition, we need to give each other some inspiration and good cheer, and that means a Kickoff Party!

The party will be SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31.

As I am in Copenhagen, that is where the party will be, BUT I would very much appreciate suggestions from people as to what place you think it could be held. Please send me an email OR write a post.

As with previous years, there are both Danish speakers and also know English....and those who live in Denmark and are participating in the contest but are English speakers only, so I ask that people be welcoming and inclusive when writing posts. If writing in Danish, please also write it in English. As your ML with limited Danish I will also try to do the same!

Happy Writing!

She admitted to having limited Danish skills. :) It's hard to get grammar and syntax right when you're learning a new language! I'm impressed she tried it! I would be too embarrassed to translate my posts, for reasons just like this. I can imagine it's good practice, though. Yay to our ML for trying to practice what she preaches, as well. If she's asking Danes to translate to English, it's very fair of her to do her best to translate into Danish right back at them. :D

To the OP, as long as it's in easy reach of a metro or train, I know that me and my darling other half would be interested in socializing this year!

Skribbling-be nice to our dear ML, *said with smile and wink* and say hi to your visiting cat (yea I checked your blog a couple of weeks ago:))

Dear ML- I solute you. I hate trying to translate stuff. I assumed last year that you were Danish. Just goes to show that I should assume nothing.

I am always courageous, so yes the words may not be quite conversatinal Danish but they can be understood. LOL

LOL

Are there really Danes here who would have that much trouble understanding this in English? Mightn't it just be easier on our ML to stick to English unless anyone really has trouble. Of course confused Danes should ask and pester for translation if something isn't clear.

And before anyone starts on MY bad Danish. I am an American who has lived in Northern Jutland for more than 10 years. Most of you probably don't even consider Vendsyssel part of Denmark.

--

I have an objection against the Danish forum being mainly in English. I think it can work as a deterrent for people not well versed in English. Furthermore, I would very much like to converse in Danish with my fellow Danish scribblers.

All the best

Jesper

Hej Elskede :-)

Sorry, given your user name I couldn't resist.

Well, I'm late for the party, but just in time for Nanowrimo, so I guess I'll have to be better prepared next year. Not to worry about the limited Danish, your writing sounds just like my english ex-pat friend Stuart :-)

I'd suggest a pragmatic approach to the language issue. Any topics containing general information we try to be inclusive and help out those who aren't native danish speakers. But given that this is about writing, and thus also about language and perhaps sometimes about some very subtle issues regarding our own language we ask those who speak English (or another language) to bear with us when we slip into our own tongue. We promise not to talk about you behind your backs :-)

----------
