Hello all...plan a novel?...ha...I do good to get the clothes in the hamper instead of accidentally placing them in the dirty diaper bin. I am afraid I must either wing it or finish something I have already started. While I have done nano twice before, this will be the first time with an infant. Wahoo! So, if I am talking to myself or happen to pull the remote out of the diaper bag or have a sock stuck to my rump by way of banana, please just smile and nod, folks, smile and nod.
Any mommies out there who have done this before? Tips would be helpful. I work full time, so the rest of time will be split between baby and writing. I keep her with me where ever I go. How else am I to groom a little writer but to immerse her in all of the crazies...I mean craziness...of which I am wholly a part? Any new mommies doing this? Are the any kid friendly places to write...perhaps with lots of colors so baby will be mesmerized? So many questions...so little time...

Weather permitting, a park or some such could work well. Birds and trees and such for the little person to watch.

Need a sitter? I'm cheap cause I haven't found a regular job that doesn't want me to stay around for a lot longer than a year (other than fast food, and I'm not quite ready to settle yet). I haven't babysat any kids other than my significantly younger siblings, but I was doing that early on and have quite a bit of experience. :3

Thanks, but I've got the most awesome baby sitter ever, and when I am not at work, I prefer to have her with me rather than pass her off to someone else. During the school year, I do not get to spend a lot of time with her and cherish what little bit I get - even if right now it is filled with the fussy cry of a teething baby :)
I will keep a listen out for anyone looking for one though :)

Hi Hermit! I'm sure you know this, but Jo Rowling wrote Harry Potter when her oldest was a baby. I seem to recall her ! saying on her website something to the effect of the baby falling asleep, then putting her in the stroller and dashing off to the nearest coffee shop to get some writing done. Can't remember if she was working then. Anyhow, I'm a mom of three, but am not currently working outside the house. The hardest thing is turning off the "mom brain". You know, the one that nags you about the pile of laundry or stack of dishes or the fact that you are down to one box of cereal (the yucky kind) and only enough milk for one bowl of cereal and your hubby is wanting to get frisky and yada, yada, yada, and you are chronically sleep deprived. During Nano, I say screw it all! (Okay, so the hubbies would agree with that part.) I figure if the laundry is clean, forget folding it and putting it away. Just grab something out of the basket. (Okay, I'll admit I'm a lousy housewife with or without Nano. I hate housework!)
Just think of Nano as another part-time job. Find the time for it and have fun with it. Tivo your favorite shows and catch up with them in December. Oh, and smile and nod? I love that! It was the single piece of advice I gave my high school students when I was teaching. I had a sign above my board that said, "Smile and nod, and say, 'Yes, Mrs. Gibson.'" Not sure how many of them really remember the Pythagorean theorem, but I've had a few tell me later that smile and nod has served them well.
Hope you can make it to some of the socials. One of my favorite parts of Nano last year.

Mommy, no. Daddy, yes. The first time I did this I had a 5-year-old, and the computer was in the room where he slept. I still managed to make 50K, but it was a struggle. So it can be done, just be prepared to lose some sleep.

I completely understand what you mean! One of my chief issues this month is going to be entertaining/keeping awake my kitten while I write! She gets anxious that I'm giving something else so much attention! She likes to sleep next to me on my table when I'm using my laptop, and so she'll sleep for most of the day while I'm writing, but then is awake all night when I need to sleep! I moved her bed up on the table today, and she crawled in and went to sleep facing the other direction to be passive aggressive. Bright colors and amusement would be great!
