Welcome to the 11th year of NaNoWriMo!!

I'm Nellie, your friendly (soon to be sanity and sleep deprived) ML! :-) The forums here will not only cover Harrisburg but York and Lancaster as well. I welcome all the people who have participated in the past and any new comers. Don't be afraid to ask any questions. I'm here to help as well as everyone else. Everyone will be someone else's support group. Chime in here and introduce yourself. If you're new, what made you want to try NaNo? Did a friend bribe you into it or was it something you always wanted to try but never tried before.

I'm a little behind but I'll soon have the event calender up so that everyone can see when the events are and where.

Don't be shy, we won't bite. Now in anyone's novel....anything can go.

Again...WELCOME!

Why, Hello there Nellie. I'm Melody, a sophomore in high school, and doing NaNo so I can get started on my stories.

I failed last year. Exactly 1600 words. XD

Hi there. My name internet name is Ari but on here using my live journal name.. Last year I got all 50,000 words done. Still a lot more was coming from the story which I will finish sometime. This year I am going to try and finish the one I started in 07 but lost interest in writing it. *is keeping fingers crossed to finishing it*

Hi Nellie! :] And everyone!

I'm Crystal, and sadly I will not be in Pennsylvania hardly at all during NaNo this year. I'm a freshman at the University of Maine, so most of my time will be spent in (what could quite literally be) the Great White North. However, I will be home for my Thanksgiving break, so depending on how busy I am and when I fly home and such, if there are any goings on I'd be glad to meet up with everyone again! They don't have Atlanta Bread Company here. :[

I may not be there physically, but I'm totally here in spirit. Message me anytime if you want to chat. I can't promise to get back to you right away (busy college student syndrome) but when I do laundry I usually spend massive amounts of time on the internet, so I'll get back to you at some point. :]

Happy novelling! I have to have my mom mail me my outline now because it's in my yellow notebook in Pennsylvania...FML

Hey Crystal. :) Ooo, College and NaNo...such an interesting combination.

Welcome, Jack. Yeah I have two of those myself. Nothing like something that didn't want to work and crash and burn.

Hello all. I'm Kelly and I'm a Nano newbie here. I'm looking forward to the challenge. I've got a brand new idea worming it's way thru my head and dying to get on paper. Let's see if it survives to the end of the month!

Hi all! My name is (also) Kellie. This is my second year of NaNo, but my first in Pennsylvania. Last year I got all 50,000 and had a great time doing it. For those of you in college and school, don't fear! It can be done. I wrote my novel last year whilst concurrently being in a play, taking a full course load and writing the first draft of my thesis.

No, I did not sleep. No, I did not see my friends. I didn't say it was pretty, only that it could be done.

Good luck!

Hi everyone. I'm Heather. I've done this for somewhere between 4 and 6 years (this isn't my original username), and I have yet to win. But every other time, I've had high school, or college, or work or something taking up a lot of my time. This year, the only things on my schedule are sleeping, eating, writing, and winning the lottery (starting to look more likely than finding a job).
Since I (still) can't drive, I will probably not be able to go to very many events. However, if there are any in one of the places on Jonestown road (ABC, Borders, any others that I can't think of right now), well, i can see that entire area almost from my back yard, so I can walk it. I'm almost always online, so you can send me a message on here whenever you want and you'll most likely get an answer within a few hours.

Kelly - Welcome to the insanity. :0) it is daunting if you sit and think about it but it isn't that bad. The best thing to get warmed up is if you have another story that you're working on or even bits and pieces of ideas and just type until you have 1000-1500 words.

Welcome to the area, Kellie - Are you here for college or is Pennsylvania now your home residence?

Welcome back, Heather!

Sup everyone, it's Shawna again back for my sixth year, and I'm finally in college. Still living in Camp Hill but commuting to Penn State Harrisburg (located in Middletown, so why they don't call it PS Middletown is beyond me), so I'll probably make a post seeing if anyone in this school's hunkering down and doing it.

It'll be interesting trying to balance schoolwork (actual legitimate difficult schoolwork) with writing, but like I did in high school, I think I'll be a-okay. Now...if only I had a plot idea...

Hello, c-three checking in. This is not my first year of NaNo, but I will be moving to Carlisle at the end of October, so I thought I'd hook up with this region.

I started doing NaNo unofficially (in off-months) in 2005, and finally officially joined last year. Since then, I have won NaNo08, NaNoEdMo in March 2009, ScriptFrenzy09, JulNoWriMo09, AugNoWriMo09, and I hope to win again in November. I'm beginning to get addicted to completing first drafts in a month. This time, I think I might do a face-down rewrite of a novel I've been having trouble with. Alternately, I might write the fourth book in my d'Arcy W. Carter murder mystery series.

Can't wait to get started!

--------------

The Adventures of Meggie McFate: The All-Seeing Eye (NaNoWriMo08 win)
Murder Most Motherly (NaNoEdMo09 win)
Screenplay: The All-Seeing Eye (ScriptFrenzy win)
ASGARD RISING: The Journey of the King (JulNo and AugNo wins)

Just checking in to say "hi" and I miss you! If I happen to be back in PA for any of your write-ins, I'll try to stop by.

Hey, Nellie and everyone! This is my fourth year of NaNo, though I've only ever won once. I was one of the group that was at the Prince Street Cafe meeting last year, but that was on my ozymandiusjones username. I've since transferred from HACC Lancaster to Millersville. I'm currently in five classes, so....this is going to be interesting, to say the least.

Looking forward to interacting with y'all!

Hi Everybody!

My name's Lisa. I'm a newbie. I joined Nano last year, but didn't manage to write anything. So, I hope to try again! I'm in the York area. I'm still not sure about my story, yet, so I'll be thinking of plot ideas for the next few weeks!

Hiya. I joined NaNoWriMo last year but missed ten days to a business meeting (I got to operate a laser and a grabby robot, so it was all good). Needless to say, I didn't make it. I hope to do better this year.

Hi everyone. My name is Vanessa, and this is my first time doing the NaNo. A few years ago, I came across the ScriptFrenzy phenomenon, and then NaNoWriMo, and have been brewing on joining since then. Luckily, I have no social life this year at all, so this will be the perfect excuse for why I'm not going out. Bonus!

The write-ins sound like a lot of fun, but my schedule and lack of transportation make coming to them unlikely. But if any of you find yourselves in the Elizabethtown Public Library, come find me. I'll be the girl in the coffee shop making awesome lattes and wearing a green bracelet.

Later!

Welcome, Vanessa. :D Sounds like you're at the perfect spot to write to, especially if you need to double check on something.

Welcome, Lisa.

Welcome back, Errant. :D

Heya!

I'm a recent college grad who's only found part time retail work in the Harrisburg area to hold her over till she finds something that pays more than $7.50 an hour (fail). Hence, it's time to distract myself with writing. I figure maybe I should put my English degree to work...or something.

It's been ages since I did NaNo...03 being my only committed try at it, though I did manage it. Didn't ever actually *finish* said novel, but hey, I still have that official winner certificate on my board...

It's nice to meet all of you, by the way :) Glad to see so many others in the area joining the NaNo journey!

I'm Lissa, and I did NaNo last year, but I gave up in the middle of the month (lack of inspiration). This year I may not finish either (lack of time). I'm also being a rebel -- whoo.

It doesn't look like I'll be able to make any write-ins, because I don't have a car, and even if I could, I can't drive, hahaha. At least Franklin & Marshall will probably have a couple campus events for it.

Welcome everyone!

Tomorrow, we're having a Harrisburg meet at Panera Bread in Camp Hill if you can make it from 9 on.

For Lancaster, I'll be at Borders in the side mall on Sunday from 10, for a couple of hours.

Aww, Sorry you can't make it, Elisabeth, but there are the virtual write-ins scheduled twice a week. :D

Hello All,
My name is Garrett and this will be my first nano. Way excited! I am actually a non fiction writer and this will be my first novel so i am excited and scared all at the same time. I am 27, a husband and father of 3 and although i know i was born to write, 50, 000 FICTION words in 30 days is CRAZY! I have this story in my head and pray that i can get it down on paper. To everyone I want to say, GOOD LUCK!

post script: i will try to make the kick off on the 25th.

Nellie:It was great meeting you in person today. Thank you for going the extra mile to create such a welcoming atmosphere for all of us NaNoWriMo neophytes.

For all the other WriMo newbies out there contemplating whether/not to attend a kick-off: I went to the Harrisburg kick-off today, and it was not nearly as intimidating as I imagined. My secret fear was that everyone else in the group would have so much writing experience that they would be at a complete loss as to what to do with someone who just scribbles in a journal occasionally, and after a few minutes I would be politely asked to leave. It was a big relief to find that we have a nice, laid-back, friendly group here in Harrisburg. So, for all the rest of you out there, dive right in… the water's fine.

With gratitude to the entire Harrisburg group,
paterbabe

Howdy all.

My name is Jason. This is my first year officially doing this, although, I've dabbled before. I needed to get writing again, if only to scratch the itch and quiet the voices, and Nano seemed like the perfect way to do it.

I've got my work cut out for me. I've got my first kid on the way (due Dec. 19th) and a troublesome kitten who likes to play with my keyboard while I type, but I plan on finishing, even if it means sacrificing the sleep.

At least with Daylight Savings, we'll get an extra hour to write. or sleep. or stare off into space trying to remember if 'whom' is the right word, or is it 'who'. and then fantasizing about throttling whoever (whomever? AAARGH!) decided to keep those words in existence.

Looking forward to attending write-ins, at least part of the time, because...well...I like football almost as much as I like writing.

Hi, all. My name is Melissa. I moved from D.C. to Boiling Springs this past spring with my husband, two sons (just turned 2 and 4), dog, two cats, and two fish. I'm an attorney, so between work and the little ones, I doubt I'll make any write-ins.

But, I'm looking forward to November!

Hello everyone!

My name is Liz and I'm a 25 yr old office administrator taking her first stab at NaNoWriMo. I've got a dog, cat, and a lot of spare time so I'm hoping I might actually do alright this round. My only fear is running out of ideas. If anyone wants a writing buddy or just someone to shoot the shiz with, please, feel free to hit me up. I'm also an online gamer if that helps (both PC and console)

Hi everybody,

I'm Kyle, I'll try to make it to a couple of the Harrisburg write-ins.

Anyway, this is my first year trying Nano, and I'm pretty hopeful about finishing. I'm gonna second the above comment about getting some writing, or gaming =), done with anyone who's interested. Also, I enjoy climbing, so if anyone's looking for a climbing buddy in the H-burg area to get off some of that writing steam, I'm in.
