A new Nano year is about to begin! Who's in this year?

I'm Liz, your ML, and I hail from Centralia. This is my 4th year doing Nano and my 3rd as ML. I haven't yet planned my novel, but I'm trying to get some ideas for it. I know it will be literary, leaning toward comedy, which is what I did last year, and I had a lot of fun with it.

We're hoping to make this a great Nano year, and we've got some exciting things planned. So, who else is in?

Been itching for NaNo since last December! 1 more month!!

I'm Amy from Napavine and I work at the Chehalis Library. We have tables with plug-ins built into them, plus a couple of quiet rooms with doors. Everyone is welcome to drop by to get some writing done! /self-pimp

Did NaNo the last two years. Three years if you count the 2k thing I did my first year. Then I got to 11k, and 35k last year. This year I am going to do a prequel to my last NaNo :)

What are you people doing here already? November is a LONG way off... Plenty of time to procrastinate!

I'm an alien, and aliens don't exist...

Consequently, I have never completed NaNo, (think about it, could you type if you didn't exist???) despite participating in it for the last several thousand years...

For similar reasons, I have never been to the new Chehalis library...

But I digress...

Hello, Alien! Long time, no not-seeing (since you don't really exist)! How are you?

November may be a long way off, but the pre-nano month (aka October) is a very festive occasion and frankly, I just can't stand the wait for Nano! I have to start the festivities now.

So, what are you writing about this year?

Well...this is my first NaNo, but I'm definitely ready for it. I live in Winlock, and I've been plotting my novel for the last several weeks. I should probably procrastinate, but I tend to overthink every little detail. My mom is also joining NaNo, and she's pretty psyched. Thanks for the tip about the Chehalis library.

HI, Sylista! I can't wait to get started, too. It sounds like your way ahead of me. I only have a few rough ideas tossing around in my head, and I really need to sit down and really do some hard core planning.

Hello everyone! I'm a 2nd year Nano and looking forward to the challenge. I'm madly rewriting my futuristic-supernatural-revenge-driven Nano novel from last year so I'm not sure yet what I'll do this year, a sequel perhaps?

I read about NaNoWriMo last year in December and felt sad that I'd missed it. It slipped my mind until I got a phone call at work from Liz! ^_^

My name's Tara and this will be my first year. I don't have any idea what I'm going to write, but I will definitely turn it over in my mind for the next few weeks. I live in Cinebar, and I work in Centralia as the Newsroom Assistant at the Chronicle.

I'm super excited to start! Hurry up November 1!

I'm Katrina Stonoff, and if I do Nano this year*, it'll be my sixth year and my sixth win (because I'm WAY too stubborn to accept defeat).

I write upmarket women's fiction (fancy way of saying commercial fiction that has literary crossover potential and features female protagonists and topics that tend to interest women).

I'm thinking about completely rewriting my 2008 Nano novel from scratch. I hadn't done much planning, so about half of it was exploration. Now that I know what the novel wants to look like, I might just take my outline and start over on a brand new document.

Nice to see you all! And new people too. Woot!

*Every year I threaten to skip a year because I have five messy manuscripts that need editing, but then November 1 comes along, and I just can't stand to be left out. So yeah, it's an empty threat.

Hi, Katrina and everyone.

This is joanna s. I did nano...kind of... last year. I started my book before I learned of nano...so I felt I was cheating if I signed up and tried to start my word count. So I just kept writing my book and attending the nano write-ins. I got 40,000 words into my book by the end of November and in the process...got totally hooked on writing (I can do this...no, I really can!); learned a lot of valuable lessons (probably edited out 20-30000 words out of my book in Decemeber and January); and met a bunch of great people!
Last year I was new to town...and lewis county and in a way...a bit new to the northwest...this year I feel like I actually live here...give me a break Northwesterners...after living in the midwest most of my life, it will take awhile for me to feel like I actually belong (not that you were judging but my family thinks that I have always been here...and act like I'm a bit slow when I don't know the people they do...). So if you think everything I just said is wacko...just think "my big fat greek wedding" and you'll understand a bit...Oh, I hope none of my family ever read this...i'd never live it down... plz scratch this paragragh from your memory...
Where was I...oh yeah, great people. So I signed up on nano in august and have been chompin' at the bit since...I can't wait to start my next book. I've been trying to figure out all the in's and out of new technology while I wait...things like 'twittering' and how to use the nano website (too embarrassed to tell you how long it took me to find the lewis county info like this page) I'm hoping to be proficient before November. If you're new, welcome! I learned a lot last year from Katrina, Liz and others (probably when they didn't even know that what they said made an impact). This year I'll probably learn more...like I said I only recently found the LC info...which is probably why I was in the dark so much of the time last year... okay now that you think I'm really dumb, I'll stop writing...really...sigh...guess I'm gonna have to go work on last yrs nano book in order to get rid of these extra words that can't really wait til nov 1....can anyone tell me...what do we call this disease/problem in nano world?

Hey, Katrina! I knew you'd be along sooner or later! How did I know that, right? I'll post your writers' guild info on the calendar.

And Joanna...was that Chapter I?

Hey, Liz. Definitely guilty...I'm at starbucks now...just typed in an outline...and was amazed to realize it was well over 1000 words...I hope an outline isn't cheating...

Just joking, you know -- I loved your post! And no, it's not cheating to have an outline. If it were, I'd be guilty, too, because I always have a lengthy outline. I don't know if I could do Nano without one. I'll be working on mine tonight.

LOL. Because you know I cannot resist the siren song of Nano!

Thanks for posting the guild meeting. That would be great! It'll include some of the stuff I did last year for Nano, but I'll cover more because I have more time.

And no, Joanna, an outline is definitely not cheating! Neither is character development, no matter how many words you write.

Hi, folks,

I'm Sue, I live and work in Centralia, at the library (we have less awesome things than Chehalis, of course, but it's perfectly adequate).
This will be my second year doing Nano. Last year I got about half way through, so this year I really want to finish. I've got an idea/concept for my novel, but not really any characters! But it's long and rambling and random, and that should really work for a Nano novel (at least, that's the plan). I've been excited about this year since last year, give or take, and I really hope it doesn't pall before I get through it--i need to get excited closer to the time, seriously!

Hi all! I'm another Amy. I wish I worked at Chehalis Library, because I go there a few days a week with my kiddos (sometimes through the drive-through, which I love). I live in Centralia, but drive out to Chehalis because parking is easier. Yes, I am that much of a wimp.

This is my first year doing NaNo. I signed up last night after seeing it on a friend's blog. I suppose I am what you might call a pantser, since I have NO idea what I'm doing, but I'm looking forward to the experience. I'm glad to see other locals in on the experience. :)

Cool! Welcome to NaNo! Hope you can make it to some of the write ins so we get to meet you! When you are in Chehalis library, look for the Amy shelving books and come say hello ;)

Hi everyone! I'm a third Amy. This is my sixth year doing Nano. I'm not sure how that's possible, but I just counted and it's true.

I live in Olympia, but all of my favorite Nano people are in Lewis County. I was only able to attend a few write-ins last year, but I'm hoping to attend more often this time around. I'm looking forward to getting to know more people this November!

I just have one question: Sylista, will there be any sock puppets this year?

Sock puppets? that sounds like a story, in and of itself. I'm thinking...poor sock-puppet-inner-editor shut into shoe box until December 1st...

Good luck everyone! >.>

Hi!

OMGosh i can't believe you guys remembered the sock puppets!!! And yes, though she is not the main character, the Sock Puppet Queen will be making her triumphant return this year! My NaNoNovel this year is actually the third sequel to last years. I'm 25,000 (roughly) into the 2nd sequel and hauling fingers and keys to get it done.

Also if anyone else remembers, i am re-writing the NaNo prayer that i made up last year too.

And Joanna S. i can explain the sock puppets at the Friday meeting if you will be there or if not, just come find me during the NaNoWriMo Kick off party on the 31st/1st!

Hello and welcome all you NaNo's. This is Jason from Chehalis and the webmaster for the Lewis County Writer's Guild.

Nano Nano I hear you call,
very faint at first.
November first as I recall
That Nano thing will call.

Nano Nano came the call again,
This time louder than the first.
The countdown is upon us all,
We must answer the call.

Nano Nano I hear,
This time right beside my ear.
Ideas bounce around in my head,
but I must wait to use the lead.

I crack my fingers while I wait,
my eyes burn as I wait for my fate.
This year will be better than last,
For my novel wil be written fast.

Enjoy the poetry everyone and I hope it gets you all into gear. Can't wait for the kickoff for Nano. I have a really good Idea for this years novel too. Don't forget that we have a website as well now. It's address is http://www.lcwguild.com and there is a link to a message board on the site as well.

Hi writers,

I'm Deborah from Onalaska. I've never done NaNoWriMo before but Amy from the Chehalis Library inspired me to try. I'm looking forward to getting started. But first, that outline....

Hi, Deborah! Nice to meet you! Hope to see you at a write-in or two!

I like outlines -- I like doing them and using them. They're fun and they unleash all manner of creativity for me. I know some people who write their novels without anything but the thinnest preparation. That's not me! I do a chapter-by-chapter breakdown.
