I browsed through the Adopt A Title thread, but that's more 'get a story from a title' and I need a title for plot I already have.
So the basic gist is 'Toronto college student has to help a young, lost dragon find its way home while avoiding a hunter.' A more detailed synopsis is on my profile. Any ideas? Or suggestions of what to think about when brainstorming a title? I really suck at titles. If it doesn't come with the idea, I'm lost. Thanks in advance.

After reading your profile I couldn't help but see the connection of the girl's nickname to dragons. I came up with Dragon Ashes only because of that connection. Hope it helps!

I would call it "Ashes' Fall" just because it takes place in October which is really really lame, but it's all I could really think of, and you could make Ashes have some sort of downfall that betakes him so it has more of a drawing point from that as well.

> I Need a Title
No you don't. You need to write the story. If you've got a title, great, but if not it's no biggie. A suitable title will present itself in the process of writing.
You can call it "Pile of Paper: A Novel" for now, and that is honestly good enough. The challenge of coming up with a filename under which to save your work in progress often, I feel, pushes people to focus too much on their title before they've worried about the important part, which is the story itself.
Just write, keeping your mind open for the right title when it comes along. It will, eventually.

I believe everything you say, cloister. However, within the context of these boards, isn't it a good exercise to brainstorm for titles to go with plots?

You don't need a title, you need a filename. Name it something ridiculous that takes less than 10 seconds to think of and is relevant to the plot. Mine is crudely called "Rogue Drones F*ck Sh*t Up.odt"

You could keep it short, like "Dragon trail" . Or you could indeed toy with ahses and other dragon attributes, to get to something like "Beyond the ashes, off the scales"

I agree with MermaidSirena that your character's nickname lends itself well to possible titles:
Fire and Ashes
Chasing Ashes
Or you could make mention of the time of year, like kiya12309 suggested:
Dragon Autumn
Season of the Dragon
But in any event, good luck with your search for a title!

Thanks for all the ideas, guys. I think his nickname is important too, I just can't quite grasp a title that 'clicks'. It feels like it's just out of reach. I might call it Ashfall for now, until something that feels right comes along.
And don't worry, I know the story comes first. :)

I agree with cloister. I often have trouble with titles, too. So I just rattle along with the story. After a couple of chapters, the title usually comes to me. If it doesn't "click" as you put it, then a title can be chosen later. Besides, a title doesn't necessarily need to be all that riveting. Does anyone think the Harry Potter and the...." titles to be particularly inventive?
