NaNo/OLL staff work hard for us all year long, and that's never more obvious than during Launch Week. Look at all the cool new features we have!! The forums are stable, there's a spiffy new regional forum header, and tons of other stuff that is just lurking around, waiting for us to find it.

All of that costs money. If you have the cash to go donate, please do. You'll get a little halo over your name, some nice donor goodies, and the warm fuzzies from doing something good for an organization that gives you a whole month of fun each year.

If you don't have the cash, there are still options! Please check out the Donating When Broke page. There are several cool ways you can help out OLL without spending a dime of your own money.

I'm particularly excited about getting sponsored. This was something I wanted to set up for Vancouver last year, and it thrills me to see that OLL has done it for me. I just signed up, and I can't wait to email everyone I know, asking them if they'd be willing to donate just $10 to NaNo. If 25 people donate $10, I'll meet my goal.

So come on, Vancouver--how much can you raise?

w00t! $390!! Just $10 short of last year's total! Thanks so much to everyone who has generously donated. I know that our donor percentage is outrageously high compared to some regions--I'm proud of you!

I haven't bumped this up with an update in a few days, even though several of you must have gone straight home from the kick-off and donated. We are now at $470.00, plus the $49 in raffle tickets--that's almost $520 so far! Only $280 to go before we reach my goal. What do you think guys--should we raise the goal? How high should we aim?

All right gang, fundraising has just taken on new importance. All regions have been organized into leagues that are competing in a Donation Derby Vancouver is in League Two, or the Komodo Dragons. (The link will take you directly to our league.) Here's how it works:

Headquarters wrote:
The winner in each league will be the region with the highest average increase in donations between last year and this year. Brand-new regions and existing regions that had no donations last year will be competing in the same league.

Our contest will close at midnight on November 30th, and winners will be announced as close to December 4th as possible.

Each winning region will receive these lovely prizes:
· A personalized web badge to decorate blogs and regional websites
· A personal email from Chris
· Their region name on a plaque/trophy at HQ, plus photographic evidence that they’re enshrined in the HQ hall of fame
· Public acknowledgement on the site

The fine print
Since region size is the number of active+homed participants, this number (and the data you’ll see) will change on November 1st when Wrimos can start reporting word count, and it will fluctuate through the month as more participants home with your region, or (sadly) leave your region and home elsewhere.

The Donation Derby can only show donations made directly to OLL through the donation station (or by check). We can’t include donations made through GiftTool, since those donations are not routed directly through OLL.

If no region in a league exceeds last year’s average, the winner will be the region that comes closest to matching last year’s average. In case of a tie, the winner will be the region with the highest total donation for the current year.

We're doing really well--last year our average was below $2 per person, this year we're already above $5. However, Hawaii has just challenged us--they're above $8/person right now. Are we going to let them beat us? I don't think so! Come on, let's show them what Vancouver is made of!

$565 + $50 in raffle tickets = $615 so far. We're at approximately $4.91/Wrimo! Way to go, Vancouver!!

I really think $800 is going to be a complete cinch for us to make at this point, so I'm raising the goal to $1000. I totally think we can do this, or I wouldn't be pushing us to it. We are awesome!

An update on the donation front:

1) We made $100 in raffle ticket sales! This was donated this evening in the name of Wrimos of Vancouver Washington. Good job everyone. Don't forget to hang on to your tickets. I'll be drawing at the TGIO for the awesome donor goodies, including the fantastically gorgeous poster.

2) This donation pushed us from #8 to #5 in the Donation Derby. We could easily take over the #3 slot--they're only two cents away!

3) If you're planning to donate but haven't yet, HQ is doing a special push on Tuesday, the 24th. Their goal is to get $100,000 in donations on that day. This will put them in the black for this year and give them cash to work with as we go into next year. It'll be fun to see the fund-o-meter skyrocket on that day, and it would be even more fun to know you're a part of it.

In conclusion, $765 is awesome! We're doing an amazing job at fundraising this year. I know it hasn't been the easiest year for anyone financially, and I am so incredibly proud of all of you who've sacrificed a little to keep NaNo going. Thanks so much for all you've done.

Check out the home page! If they reach $100K in 24 hours, Chris will write a song and the entire staff will sing it for a NaNoVideo episode--complete with interpretive dance! Just you know... For What It's Worth.

So, people who have donated another $60 on Donation Day? You totally rock my world. Thanks!!

If you haven't been keeping track of the Donation Derby, we are now comfortably in the #4 slot. It would be awesome if we could climb to the top of the league--do you think we can do that?

Even if we don't win by the difference, we are absolutely crushing everyone in total donations, which just thrills me. So good job, Vancouver! Keep up the good work. :)
