So... who's already signed up for 2009? Have you decided what you're writing yet?
I'm Rachel, I live near Stroud, and this is my 3rd year of NaNo. The first time around I did it all by myself... last year a group of us had regular-ish meetings where we bribed ourselves with chocolate.... :) I write all year round but admittedly November is a little more intense. No idea yet what this year's NaNo project is going to be, but I'm sure I'll think of something.

I'm Steve, I live near to Cheltenham, and this is my second year of NaNo, although for personal reasons last year's attempt was put by the wayside a few days in. This year I'm intending to do better, though! I have no real idea (just yet) what my novel will involve, but I'm going to look at consolidating what random strands of thought I have for this at some point shortly so that I have a vague idea. I also write all year round, as time permits. Also, I would stand by chocolate as a decent motivational aid. :)

I'm going to write young adult fantasy this year. It'll be the sequel to the book I'm writing right now.
I'm really looking forward to it!

Hello
My name is Alan, and this is my second year with the NaNoWriMo. Though I've registered as a participant, I'll technically be editing last year's, so I probably won't be registering a 'proper' word count. For me, it's an incredibly useful discipline to set some time aside to do this, because I don't write this type of thing the rest of the year - I try to get to grips with my main board game design stuff, and that discipline is pretty hard too. This November is a way for me to get my brain into gear properly again.
I'm in Nailsworth, up at Forest Green. It's beautiful, and now I have a netbook with a decent battery, I can see myself spending the hours looking out over the valleys, or alternatively down the coffeeshop recently opened by my friend Mike in Churchdown.
In fact, why don't some of us give it a go together some time? It's the Chosen Coffee Shop in Blacksmiths Lane, Churchdown (and I'm not a shareholder or anything!).

Hi guys!
Wow, it's great to see this place taking off.
For those that don't know me - my name is Kai - and I'm the loon...err...happy vollunteer that runs the get togethers 'etc' for the region.
I'll be looking at splitting the region into co-ml#s again this year, because I can't travel very far from the town centre (Cheltenham) but I'm looking into getting a regular (quiet) meeting space booked and short listing a couple of venues for the ones nearest me - but feel free to holler if there's anywhere that you think is suitable.
(it HAS to be within travelling distance for as many people as possible - I'm based in Cheltenham for the moment, but I'm a student, so I can get most places cheaply ;))
Other than that, I'm the person responsible for claiming the goodies, helping to bribe with chocolate etc. Unfortunately (because of my head injury) I'm not sure how many people saying 'I'm BACK!' I've *actually* met, for which I deeply apologise, so feel free to remind me of who you are or what I bribed you with.
And yep, I'm writing again this year - between dissertations and new book contracts...ahem.
Kai

I'm back again for another year! I'm not sure if I'll finish this year, due to some wrist problems I've been having, but I'm giving it a go anyway. Working on another fantasy novel this year, which I've been doing background and outlining on for awhile now, and can't wait to start writing. I'm also in Cheltenham, and looking forward to meeting up with folks. Good luck everybody!

Hi
I'm Chris and this is my first attempt at Nano. I live in the outskirts of Cheltenham, usually. Currently doing slave labor at a restaurant in the middle of the French countryside. Looking forward to returning to England after 3 months here and taking a little break. The Nano month couldn't have come at a better time.
I'm planning on writing a fantasy story that i came up with ages ago but had kind of abandoned. Fantasy is really a perfect fit for this kinda thing.. don't have to do any of that pesky research business.
I expect to either sail through the target or scrape a couple of thousand words.. it could really go either way.

I'm Acco Spoot, I just slammed my bike into the side of a Car :D Which is about the sort of thing which has kept me from completing NaNo these past two years, get it out of the way now.
I'm currently living in Cheltenham but I'm a bit all over the place having been switching between Norfolk and Suffolk for the past ten years.
Planning on going it simple with a Sci-Fi War story, that way I actually have the research I need to hand.

This is my third nano; I completed it the first time around, but I had to abandon last year's due to illness.
And this year I'm really going for it - I want a good draft that I can work on afterwards. This is the launch for me of taking my writing seriously, after so many years of unfocused dabbling.
I hope to get out and meet some of you this year. And one thing I know, the word counts you guys put up really help motivate me. So make sure you're doing your thing! :-)
Best of luck to you all.

hi folks
Been doing NaNo for a number of years, but have failed to complete in recent years. This year however, I intend to finish it. (deja vu? I am sure I have said this before...)
I live in Winchcombe and am looking forward to warm evenings with the laptop in front of the fire - with a nice mug of hot chocolate and Dead Can Dance, This Mortal Coil and William Orbit providing the background inspiration.
Enjoy it!

Hi,
I'm Lara and a complete novice at this so don't understand any of the terms or anacronyms.
I've always wanted to write and sometimes give it a go but if I have a fixed deadline I think that will help. Not sure how I will get it all done, if I will, have 2 youngsters who want to spend increasing amounts of time on the PC and I teach yoga a couple of evenings a week but best start this year before I get a 'proper job' when both my kids are in school.
I'm in Gloucester.

Hi, I'm Katherine and I recently moved here from Bristol. This will be my second Nano, I managed to complete it last year. I really enjoyed meeting up with other Nanoers in Bristol and hope to do the same here this year - if only because I don't know anyone round these 'ere parts yet! Most of my time is taken up with looking after my 2 kids and writing gives me some kind of escape from the daily chaos. We're based just outside of Stroud (towards Nailsworth) so if there's a few other Stroudies then it would be great to meet up for local write-ins.

Hi Everyone,
I'm Prue and i live in south Warwickshire. However...i do some work in Gloucestershire and my heart is in the Cotswolds so i think i belong here :)
This is my first NaNo and i'm very excited - always wanted to write a book but never tried before.
I have the barest bones of a plot...a definite beginning (first chapter) and an ending...sort of...then there's that huge bit in the middle about which i've no idea at all. I'm hoping that under the pressure of writing 2000 words plus per day i will discover my creative side.
Whatever happens, i'm determined to Have Fun!!!

Hiya, I'm Shaun, I live in Bishop's Cleeve just outside of Cheltenham and this is the furthest I've got to committing to do NaNo in 3 years so here's hoping I can get some words down. I do a bit of other writing but this has seen a bit of a decline as I'm trying to churn out iPhone apps to pay the bills.
For NaNo I've decided to write a prequel to my main SciFi writing project (actually a pre-prequel or part 1 of 3) which among other things will help me to fill in a lot of deep back story to the stuff that's going on in the main project. Hopefully at the end I'll have something I can edit into some kind of coherent package... we shalll see!

I'm Aimee, and I'm a sixth form student in Gloucester. This is my second year doing NaNo, and I can tell that this one's going to be a hard one for me. Darn A Levels.
I do know what I'm writing, vaguely, but it's a complete mess at the moment. Last year, because I'd been attempting to write the novel for four months before November, everything seemed settled. I had a plot, I had the characters. This year I have almost nothing, and it's annoying me. I hope after November I'll have the motivation to get into writing full time again, like last year!
Good luck everyone! =]

Hey, I'm Megan and I live in Bishops Cleeve just outside Cheltenham...took a break last year but am back for a third attempt. Haven't won yet but this time I'm springing on the story I've been brewing since before I can remember so it should be a while before I run out of steam, long as Uni doesn't chew me up and spit me out too early.

Hi
I'm Rebecca and I live near Cirencester. First time for NaNoWriMo (although I've thought about doing it since the year it launched) and third adult novel. I may not be NaNo compliant as I tend to become a hermit when I write but my online chums have been badgering me about it for months so I've given in.
Can't wait to start writing again but I'm not looking forward to the middle bit - always fall out with my characters at that point.

This is quite a late introduction, Happy Halloween everyone, but better late than never.
I'm Jess, I'm from Woodmancote originally, so a big shout out to the Bishops Cleevers in this group especially!
I'm currently living in Cagliari in Italy but I've affiliated myself to you wonderful people firstly because I'm a Chelters lass at heart and secondly I feel closer to the Chelt&Glos group than any other. Thirdly, I don't understand the pep talks and forum stuff that get sent my way in Italian. My Italian's ok but November's not the month for spending precious moments deciphering foreign language, but rather wrapping my head around English.
2 stretches of water and a little place called France is between you and me, my fellow folks in glorious Gloucestershire, but during the month of November, can we be noveling neighbours?
Good luck to you all for tomorrow and the next 30 days.
After a false start last year, meaning not starting at all, this will be my first Nano.

Hello everyone,
A few hours to go before the excitement and I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Tori, and I live in Gloucester. I've tried NaNoWriMo unofficially a couple of times in the past, and in '07 tried it using the website, but didn't talk or meet with anyone else. Unfortunately, the idea I had at the time didn't really develop. This year I have a lot more time on my hands so I'm hoping I'll be successful. I have no idea what I'm going to be writing as yet but I have the next two hours to decide.
Glad to see I'm not the only student here! Technically I'm on a gap year but it won't be long until I'm a student again. So if it doesn't happen this year it will never happen!
Good luck everyone!

k@'s my name & this is my inaugural nanowrimo outing. what am i doing here? the panic is setting in already!
have a loose idea for plot/material, so we'll see how i go on with this thing. i tend to write copy & short columns, so this is really gonna be a challenge for me to focus. fortunately, i live near stroud & have a dog who likes to explore the hills & woods with me. should help me clear the crap from my head & help get me motivated. i only have about 49950 words to write. easy.
if there are any meet-ins going on in stroud, i'll turn up. :) you have been threatened.
good luck, everyone.

This is really belated, so, apologies! I'm Emma, obviously, and I live in Cheltenham - pretty much right in the middle. This is my first go at nanowrimo, and so far I'm feeling good about it. I'm writing fantasy, but I suspect it will be fairly realistic fantasy - by which I mean it's set in a location not recognisably in this world but won't be too heavy on the dragons and wizards and so on. Of course, I may change my mind as I write and throw some in anyway.
I think I recognise a couple of names from the thread so far (from Twitter and, shock horror, from REAL LIFE), so hello to faces new and old. Right, enough break, back to it!

Hi all.
My name is Gill, but most people know me as Mojo (though I'll answer to pretty much anything!). I live in Lydney so I'm kind of halfway between Gloucester and Bristol which is the reason for my vacillation between Bristol and Gloucester as my home region. If I was going to be true to my heart, I'd actually be under London as that's where I originate from and where my heart belongs.
I was cajoled, very gently, into doing NaNo this year by the people on the writer's forum which I frequent (Accentuate Writers) and there's a lot of us giving this a go, some new and some old hands. I probably wouldn't have bothered but for the fact that someone close to me dropped a line in my lap which inspired an entire novel in about three seconds flat (and to him due credit will be given in the dedication when the book is published). Although the working title is Shadowbeast and the story resolves around a shadow, I'm not happy with that title and it will change.
What else do you want to know? I live with my partner of many years and our 4 kids, who are almost off of my hands (the youngest being halfway to 16). I'm owned by several cats, music and reading are my other passions and I'm a pagan. If there is anything else you want to know, just ask :)
Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

bring it on!
