November is on the way, and you know what that means -- NaNoWriMo! To start things off right, the Kick-Off Party will be held Sunday, November 1st, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Capital Ale House in Midlothian.
If you've been to a Richmond area Kick-Off Party before, you know what to expect. If this is your first time, don't be shy! Jump right in and enjoy the writing and word games; investigate the inspiration kits; fill in a mid-month postcard; and be generous with prompts when your fellow Wrimos hand you their notebook. Don't worry if you don’t know what I'm talking about; it will all make sense when you get there.
We will do all this and more at the wonderful Capital Ale House in Midlothian. So join us, and bring a friend! We'll have laptops and free wireless so when they see how much fun NaNo is, they can sign up on the spot.
Please RSVP. We would never turn anyone away, so don't stay away if you forgot to RSVP, but a headcount will help the good people at the Capital Ale House give us their very best service in the private room upstairs.

I would love to come, as this year I am determined to actually write and attend write-ins, but my friends are coming out from Oklahoma to spend Halloween with me and will be here until the 2nd. Weekend evening events are mostly going to be out for me since I usually work overnights on Sat and Sun as a home health care companion. But I will be at the kick off party in spirit!

Originally I didn't think I could make the kick off party because I have out of town guests, but I think I have them convinced to at least drop by, have a drink or two, so that I can meet you guys. Plus, I'm strong arming my older brother into doing NaNo with me, but I don't think I'll have any problems getting him to join the Kick Off Party. Really looking forward to meeting ya'll! Hopefully my NaNo shirt arrives in time for me to wear it so that I won't have to bother standing in the corner trying pathetically to make eye contact with people who look like they might be writers.

I wanted to say something about the Kick-off Party because of some of the different posts that I have read. Our kickoff Party is just that a party. We are not planning to go to Capital Ale house and setup and start writing. Though CAH might give inspiration to some it doesn't to all.
What we do is we meet up, we meet the other writers in the area that are doing Nano, so when folks go to write-ins they will recognize each other. We also find out who is writing what so that it will be easier to share ideas and thoughts. It's fun and a good time, but it is not meant as any type of write-in.
That being said anyone who would rather do a kick-off write-in is more than welcome to. Please let us know when you plan to have it and how many people will be there. I would love to send a gift bag for the person who writes the most at your first write-in. I plan to do so at all first write-ins, but I'm not quite sure about the highschoolers since they have some restrictions in place. I will think of something.
One other thing I did hope to accomplish at the kick-off was to get locations and dates for write-ins in hopes to make sure everyone finds one if they wish to go.
