Hi everyone!

Another fun, crazy, exciting, stressful and insane year of Nanowrimo is starting. My name is Sandra, and I will be your ML again this year. As you can see, not only has the website been updated this year, but for the first time Regina and Saskatoon have their own forums.
Sure it's only October, but this is the perfect time to start plotting and planning your stories. I'm currently working on the calendar of events for the Regina region, and it should be done the last week of October.
As always, I would love to get some feedback or suggestions for write-in dates or places, as well as for our kick off party on October 31 (Happy Halloween!).
I'm looking forward to Nanowrimo this year, and if anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Phoenixfox aka Sandra

For write ins... I'm curious, where is everyone located in the city? For example, I'm in the east end. It'd be useful knowledge so that if no one lives in, say, the north end we wouldn't have to schedule a write in there.

For the kick off party, since it is on a Saturday, would anyone be opposed for it running past midnight? That way we could start our novels on exactly All Saints' Day. It doesn't have to be far past midnight - even just to 12:15 so that we could have a word war and leave.

I'm still at the University this year (and in need of rides!)

For the kick-off party, I might be working (I know others have booked it off, and I tend to work on the weekends). But if I am, I get off at 10/10:15 and would be fine with doing something after. Last year I started at the stroke of midnight, got quite a bit ahead, then a new bunny bit and all that was wasted.

I still possess a car (actually I now have two cars... though the new one has a flat tire (entirely flat) so I'm back down to one) and, thus, I'm still willing to give rides.

Hey, fellow Regina NaNoers (NaNoees? NaNoites?)! I just moved here for university and am living in res, so rides are a bit tricky for me. That said, I love the idea of write ins (have never been to one before), and would completely be on board for a Oct. 31st kick-off that goes past midnight and a word war.
Very excited for the new NaNo round!!

As Darcy is also living in res and, last year, I was the designated driver for her and Morgan, it's totally cool and I can drive you guys anywhere. I'm also a U of R student so I've got the parking pass and such.

That being said, I have a little two door car. I can have a max of four passengers, XD

I won't be able to make it for the first write-in since I've made plans for Hallowe'en :) It involves me not moving for all of Sunday, at least. But any other write-in is a good time for me (unless, of course, it falls on a test date or an essay is due).

I live on campus at the university and am willing to give rides. I also have a little two door car and max I can fit is five (if three people are willing to squeeze into the back seat). My car is incredibly good on gas so that's really no problem for me.

monoclelad on my writing buddy page is a boy!

But Trav's from Maine.

And, yes, we need more menz in our little writing club thinger. As it stands... estrogen overload! Which always leads to me taking on the male role. Seriously, I am the one, when out shopping with friends, that is relegated to purse-and-bag duty.

Yay! U of R students!

I'm thinking we need a U of R write in...? I don't live on campus, but I spend almost all my time there, between class and swimming and building sets and crap like that, so I'm always around.

I can't make it to the kickoff party, 'cause I have a Halloween one to go to.

I'm so excited to start writing! I'm actually planning my novel (which I never do) because I need to be in that creative headspace already!

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I mean, it'd be pretty silly not to... How many people other than Sandra aren't attending classes at the U of R anyway?

I have no problem with having most of the write-ins at UofR. I haven't done up the calendar yet (waiting till after thanksgiving), but just tell me where on campus is a good place to write (preferably something with a power outlet for laptops...I also have a power bar) I can easily arrange that.
I have also learned how to drive in the past year, so as long as my husband doesn't need the car, I could also provide some transportation.

Since the kick-off party is on Halloween, does everyone want to dress up? And does anyone have a suggestion for a location that is open past midnight, but won't be uber crowded with other Halloween parties? Or should it be changed to Friday night?

Places on campus that involve outlets and don't mind talking is actually an interesting scenario. The lab cafe has a few but that requires strategic planning and sheer luck in order to grab a table with an outlet... well, in the middle of the day. After about 3:30 it dies down and anyone left on campus tends to be in the study areas... which have more outlets but don't like talking.

I could probably book us a room in the library, though. They've got a bunch and I can just lie and say it's for my CS group project if they won't let us book for non-school work.

If we're all of age, we could always use the Owl.

A power bar, though, would be necessary no matter what.

As for locations that won't be all whooo par-tah on Hallowe'en... haven't a foggiest clue. I hate bars and parties, soooo... And dressing up is always fun :3

We could always hit up one of the Timmy's. The one in the East across the road from the Home Depot is 24/7, for example. 'swhat my friends and I use for food after late movies, XD

Hey everyone!!
I have a car this year, and am in residence, so I can save you the time Nikki. I can have five passengers in my car, albeit uncomfortably. Kim also has a car and her and I have discussed the idea of carpooling (she wasn't at write ins last year, but I'm making her this year) ... Also: As far as on campus write ins where we don't have to worry about annoying a lot of people and there is a power outlet, I live in the south tower. I have a living room. It has room for a fair sized crowd. And a power outlet (which Sandra's power bar would be perfect for) ... just saying. So if we can't find another place, we can definitely use mine.
And the halloween thing can be here if we can't find another place :D
Looking forward to seeing you all!!

Ooo, if it's anything like the living room thingy you had last year, that'd be perfect!

For anyone NOT on campus, I'd be willing to drive them, as long as they're not totally out of the way, like, say the north end, since I've got a parking pass. One of my friends once got ticketed for parking in the outlet lot (and wasn't using the outlet) at 10PM.

I'm not a U of R student, but I used to be, and am (relatively) familiar with the campus. I'll try to make the meet-ups there, but I lack transportation... perhaps a kindly driver could help out a fellow writer?
For the record, I live on Marsh Crescent. If nobody is driving my way, I'll see what I can do in the way of cabs/buses.

I'm 20 years old, so the Owl works for me. The library room sounds cute, though, if not lacking in caffeinated beverages. XD And your living room sounds even better, Morgan!

Friday wouldn't work for me, but if that's the only time that works around Halloween, I'll definitely attend the following meet-up. If it falls on Saturday, though, I'm game for a midnight headstart! Sunday is my day off... it's about time I stayed up later than 9. ;]

Oh yeah, I can certainly grab you on my way to the U of R - I'm constantly doing that loop (though the other way... and I take Grant Drive) in order to acquire comics. If we're going anywhere in the south end I could probably pick you up as well - I generally take the ring road and then onto Albert anyway.

I can't remember what you'd have come to last year, as I'm pretty sure I didn't start "entertaining" till it was pretty much second semester ... but ya. My living room is about the same size. Enough furnature to fit probably ... 10 people ish comfortably. We actually might be getting more soon so it should work well. This is just a thought, though. Sandra might have somewhere else in mind...

I can get a ride to the U of R for the kickoff party, but am only 17, so I wouldn't be able to get into the Owl. Otherwise, I'm good to go, provided I have directions to wherever this shindig is gonna go down at.

The best way to the res towers is back through the Luther parking lot at the back of the campus. After that we'd all have to wait for Morgan to let us up anyway, XD

Cake. Ah yes. Well I'll see what happens at halloween this year, but there will probably be some baking. Likely with and orange and/or black theme. And I don't necessarily have to let everyone up, as Kim is in the towers as well. So anything that happens, there's two of us with gold cards. (*if anyone else is in the towers, let me know! It's easier to get a group of people up if there's lots of us that can sign people in and such*)
Also: If it does end up being at the towers, timing may be an issue. Depending on how many people are coming. There's a dumb rule about how many people each resident can sign in, but as long as I have numbers and relative times of arrival, I can sort it out. Or just find friends who will sign people in for me. Either way.

Well ... I may have one overnight guest for up to two consecutive nights up to eight times per semester.
After 11 Sunday to Thursday night, I must sign in guests to come up the elevator and may have up to two under my name (this is where having plenty of rezzies comes in handy. I can have one. Three of us can have six, making a group of nine. Etc.) Same deal friday and saturday nights, except that I have to sign people in starting at seven. Oh and said guests have to leave by three am. Not that anyone checks.

So basically, if people show up before said times, they're home free. After that I either sneak people up (Not that I'd ever do something against the rules like that .......), have a friend or two who aren't expecting any guests of their own, or find some other way. Also, if the RAs on duty are friends of mine (which a fair amount of them are), it's more likely that they'll just trust me not to let anyone break anything and let it go. It depends though.
So ya. Lame is right, but it's not too difficult to deal with as long as I have enough time to plan. :)

Ohhhh crazy lame res rules. And that is why I am never living in res EVER again. Ever. (Also because there was this really creepy guy who was writing all the girls love notes and staring at us all the time. Fortunately, by the time he got to my room, he realised it was creepy and didn't give me mine. Though he did tell me all about it.)

That and I just hate living with people.

Those rules are crazy... having never lived in rez, I assumed it was a much simpler process to have people over. 8D; Guess not, eh?

If it's a cozy little get together at Morgan's, I can bring pop and/or chocolate. It wouldn't be Halloween without candy, and I probably have to bring some Red Bull for myself anyways. It's been a surprisingly long time since I stayed up until midnight, and I don't trust myself to do it without energy drinks.

And c'mon, 17" laptops are the best! The only drawback is how difficult they are to lug around. XD

Mmmm food. I like food.

Ah, but see, I've gone the logical route and bought a desktop and a 9'' netbook. So instead of having an almost portable beast of a laptop I've got a non-portable desktop with a lot more power and a super portable computer for word processing and interneting.

Except, of course, I made the mistake of buying a 17 inch laptop in the first place. Then again, all laptops are redundant when you've got a netbook+desktop combo which is, imho, the best way to go.

Of course, I've been informed that I'm an absolute nutter when it comes to computers.

Goodness! I didn't expect anyone to be in the forums for another week or so!

I'm not a U of R student but I am extremely familiar with campus. It's too bad I'm not on the executive for the Computer Science Student Society anymore - I had a key to CW 308, which was pretty handy for late-ish, loudish gatherings.

I live downtown and rely on the bus quite a bit but I'm game for write-ins whenever where ever... work depending.

Huh, I wonder if the biochem/chem society locks up our room thingy. I don't think they do... but, then again, I've never been in there since I'm not a club-y sorta person. I should join, though. I really should.
