Hi all!

This is the place to introduce yourself. Tell us if your a newbie or returning veteran, how many years you've participated, about your story, and anything else you want to share.

My name is Sandra, and this will be my fourth Nanowrimo, and hopefully my foruth win (*fingers crossed*). It will be my second year as ML, so forgive me as I'm still learning, and feel free to give constructive criticism (I'll take it well...I promise).

No only do I have a story idea already, but also a title; "The Assassination of Humpty Dumpty".

Good luck to all of you!

Hi there!

My name is Kim. I am a student at the University of Regina, studying for my Honours in English with a Concentration in Creative Writing. I am a returning veteran but that might not be the proper title for me since I have yet to win a Nano :) Maybe fourth times the charm?

My story is about a Biblical apocalypse and a boy with a mysterious past who has to fight his way through demons and monsters to get to the supposed Promised Land to seek salvation and redemption with God. But it turns out it's not what he thought and he gets a few surprises that shake his faith in God and man.

So, yeah :) Excited to get started and meet some more people!

Hi! I'm Darcy and this is my second Nano. Hopefully, I'll be able to win again this year, only with less cheating and something resembling a plot at the end! Over this past year (really, only the last month or so), I learned that I can actually plot something out, so I'm going to try to have an outline this year, which will help.

(ew. Writing this in first person feels so weird.)

Hey! I'm Melissa and I'm currently living in Saskatoon, but Regina is my home. I don't like the city but I pretend I do so my classmates don't egg me on my way to class. This is my first Nano. I've been meaning to do it for a while but I was alwayys "to busy". Of course, this year I'm busy than ever, but half of November is practical for school, so no homework. YAY!

I don't really have a story idea yet, but I have a page or so of key words and a title: Philosophy of Love. I'm thinking it's going to be a historical fantasy, but it may evolve into something else. It already has.

I'm Julie. I'm a theater production major at the U of R. Yes, I'm one of those crazy artist types, including crazy hair and clothes.

This is my 3rd NaNo, and I hope to win again, but with less cheating, waaaay less cheating. If any of you need any idea's on word padding, I'm the person to contact!

edit: I figured out what my story is about! It should be interesting because it's really angsty, whereas my other 2 novels were rather cheerful...

Hello! My name is Cathy, and this is my first year doing NaNoWriMo.

It won't be easy, this being my senior year in high school, but I'm going to do my best.

I have a story title and a whole page of random ideas. I don't like planning the story out before I write it. It hasn't worked for me in the past because I knew what was going to happen and therefore I didn't want to write it. Also I tended to stick tightly with the plan and gave me little wiggle room. So it works better for me with no plan! Kind of weird, I guess.

For my NaNo story, the title is "Serendipity". It is subject to change. I also have all my characters, minus their personalities and other things like that.

I still have planning to do.

Yay Regina-ians!

Hi I'm Nikki.

Yes, the same Nikki from last year.

Yes, I have a new username.

Shut up.

Second nano, failed the first and am now extensively outlining so I don't get lost in my own mind again. But I'm late for physics so, yeah, I'll talk more later.

(Hi Sandra and Darcy!)

Hey everyone! My name's Mary, and I'm a first year film major at the U of R. I've lived my whole life in Saskatoon, but moved here for school and am actually really enjoying the dorm life experience.
This is my second year doing NaNo, and hopefully I'll win this year! We'll see, we'll see. I'm currently in the middle of outlining my story and can't wait to start writing! With the working title that could change any second 'To Live', this is my first try at writing a romance. I don't read or write a lot of that genre (I love writing sci-fi and fantasy) but I've always enjoyed writing little romances between characters as subplots in my other stories, so I thought I'd try one where the romance is the focus. It takes place in a fantasy world (what can I say? I can't seem to get too far away from my favourite genre) and is about a young man, Neko, who leaves on an epic quest much to the chagrin of his lover, Nydia. He promises to return relatively soon (as in, a couple of months), but over a year later he still hasn't come back. Nydia decides then that she will go on a little quest of her own to find out what happened to him. Adventure, pain, and trauma ensues. You can also expect copious amounts of bromance, 'cause I love bromance a ridiculous amount. I have all the characters and their personalities mapped out, a couple of maps of the setting drawn, and the names of the main countries, regions, and cities chosen. I'm about a third into the outlining of the actual plot.
Um.....anything else? I think that's good for now. Super pumped, guys! Super pumped.

My name is Victoria, and I'm a dog groomer in Regina. This will be my fourth year participating in NaNoWriMo, and... well, my novels like to stop around 30,000 words, but maybe this year will be different!

I have an idea of what my novel will be about this year, but I'm afraid to jinx it, so I'll just say that it's a romance. They're always fun, relatively predictable, and begin writing themselves by the third chapter.

It's so nice to see more participants from Regina! :D Two years ago, there were three female students in the whole of Regina... our write-ins were ridiculous. Hope to attend more meet-ups than I did last year.

Hey everyone!
I'm Morgan, a second year U of R student going for my Bachelor of Music in Composition (we seem to have a lot of Fine Arts in Nano this year. I like it.) ... This is my second attempt at Nano, hopefully first win. I think it'll help that I actually have sort of a plan maybe. I've told a couple of you about my plot bunny, but for the rest of you... let's just say it attacked about a month and a half ago, but instead of speaking like a normal bunny, it started singing. So as a method of planning, I've been working on the score for the musical, and the novel will follow it. And that pretty much sums up my personality.
Anyways... I live in the South tower here at the U of R and love making friends, so if you're on campus give me a shout and I'll feed you baking and encourage you in your nano efforts. I'll be needing a lot of encouragement, myself, because somehow I've ended up in 11 classes this semester (still only equaling 15 credit hours ... only a music student.)
So ya ... glad to see some new faces (or usernames ... whatever.), and can't wait for the next three weeks to pass so we can all get started!!

Slow respondee is slow to respond...

Hi. :) My name is Collane, and this will be my first NaNo ever, seeing as last year I only managed to lift my head up and blink as the third week of November whizzed by, just in time for me to go, "Wait... wasn't I going to do NaNo?" I'm a high school senior, and currently lacking laptop, power bar, driver's license and adulthood, so these write-ins may be out of the question for me, much as I'd like to attend. T_T

I do, however, have a title, plot line and neat little chart of the main plot points of my story. This was started back in September, seeing as the last major story I tried to start without proper planning crashed and burned in a fiery storm. Here's to a lack of burning wreckage this November!

As sad as this may sound... I possess two laptops and would be willing to donate one to the crowd. I'm twenty-one, started buying computers when I was eighteen... and own three. There is something very wrong with that picture. So, yeah, a person would just need a flashdrive or an SD card to put their story on. It has Word 2007 installed on it so file compatibility shouldn't be an issue at all.

Just let me know ahead of time so I know to bring the beast. It's a three year old 17'' laptop with a dead battery - waaaay too heavy.

Yes, Nikki. Eleven. One of which is insisted upon by my piano prof, but isn't even actually a registered class with the university so I get no credit whatsoever for it. But what can you do?

Temporary loan of your Beast would be beyond awesome. If I have that, then consider me in for the write-in on Hallowe'en. Three years old and 17" is nothing to a girl who has never had anything but a desktop. :D

Awesome! I shall bring it! A word of warning, though, the N and M keys are worn down and you can't actually read the n and the m. Nails+touch typing = horror on keyboards which is why I started to buy external ones - they're more easily replaced.

For good news, that computer is running the release candidate of Windows 7 Ultimate so there really isn't a better OS out there for a windows machine. Except, of course, the non-rc win7 ultimate. Yes I have no life and rather like computers a wee bit too much.

A class that isn't a class? Oh god, that is awful. How many hours do you spend in class?

(Also... okay, I'm turning off the dA style of viewing the threads now - I released that that is just gunna look like I'm double posting.)

Twenty-two. Then I have to practice a couple hours a day (at least), homework from all the various classes, work, somehow stop my friends from hating me and thinking I'm avoiding them (some people just don't get it) ... and still I'm planning on attempting Nano. We'll see how that goes. Either way, a lot of chocolate will be consumed during the month of novelber. :P

Ah, lovely. I think I topped out at 28 hours of class time once. Or 25. Can't remember.

It wasn't fun. But fortunately a lot of it was labs so I probably only spent a little over 20 hours in class a week.

On that note... I should be doing homework.

Oh man! There are eleven Regina writers, and twelve if you count Melissa, who is still a Regina writer at heart. XD We might actually need name tags this time! I'm so excited!

I forgot to mention it in my last post, but I have several books that you guys are welcome to borrow if needed.
*No Plot, No Problem by Chris Baty
*The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creative Writing
*Checkmate - A Writing Reference for Canadians
I also collect PostSecret books and Bathroom Readers. They sound like ridiculous reference books, and... okay, the Bathroom Readers are ridiculous. But there's a ton of plot potential in both of them! PostSecret cards are begging to be written about, and Bathroom Readers have good ideas planted among the bad. If you're interested in any of these, just let me know prior to a meet-up!

I would be interested at looking at your PostSecret books, Nana! I've been meaning to buy at least one but I never seem to have enough money :/

I have a writing book as well, if anyone wants to borrow. It's called "How Not To Write A Novel". It's pretty basic but also funny and just reminds you of the simple things you tend to overlook when writing something this huge.

Hi everyone! I'm working in Swift Current at the moment, but I'm kinda from all over the place. I grew up in Sask, but I go to school in Nova Scotia, and I've taken to spending the summer in BC. I'm a little crazy that way.

Anyway, my name is Erica, and this is my first NaNoWriMo. I'm using Nano as a springboard for actually finishing a novel.

I have an idea, an ending, and the bare bones of an outline, but no title as of yet.

The only writing book that I have kicking around is You Can Write a Novel by James Smith. I've already broken most of the rules, though. XD

Hey! Name's M, I'm a writer currently living in Regina. This is my second year with the Regina NaNo and I'm one for one so far so hopefully this year I'll make it two for two! Looking forward to meeting the team and some of the old faces from last year. (Actually, I really only remember Nikki. So I'll likely draw a blank. Goldfish syndrome and all. Hey look a plastic bag!)

One another note, I'm particularly interested in learning how many of us are working on horror related pieces this year. I'd be willing to host a couple horror theme related writing parties this year.

Cheers,

- M

Hi all!

This is my second year attempting NaNoWriMo. I didn't win last year due to a few complications that rendered me unable to write, but this year I hope to go strong with it. I'm a second year prejournalism major at the U of R, though I'm practically a borderline english major and am considering the switch.

And on a side note.

Morgan.

It's Chen.

Bake me some cookies!!! haha. Just kidding. But we seriously need to get together!

You too Darcy!

Hi, I'm Cyurus... otherwise known as Mike. This will be my fifth year participating and (hopefully) winning nanowrimo. It will be my 7th novel. I will likely have to face down some health problems that have been plaguing me this year, so it may end up being much more of a trial than most years.

I spend a lot of time working on music, have a background in English (BA from the U of R), I also enjoy videogames greatly. Occasionally I enjoy chatting online, usually on IMVU. I'm big into poetry and ancient cultures too.

I have a lot of ideas for my novel, which had the genesis of wondering "what would a borg Enterprise be like"? And has progressed from there... my byline would be "When a borg-like explorer makes contact with an ancient civilization and is sucked into its archaic cybernetworks, what strange secrets does he discover about his past, and the past of his race as a whole?"

----------

"Mankind proposed that it was intellectually far superior to dolphins because it had invented, science and religion, and great technologies such as the atomic bomb. The dolphins stated they were intellectually superior for the very same reasons."

Holy crap. It's almost nanowrimo. :O

Hello! I'm Denise, and this is my first Nanowrimo year. I just graduated from Campbell Collegiate this past spring, and am currently taking a few years off from school in order to save for bumming around Europe and other wonderfully stupid, youthful-type escapades like that. Originally I was planning to go to art school when I finished all that, but now I'm considering something sociology/philosophy/psychology related. We shall see.

I don't have a title for my novel yet. It takes place potentially entirely inside someones head or maybe outside the physical universe itself or maybe in the afterlife, the main character isn't really sure by the end. It's also a romance. Maybe. I have the beginning and the ending and most of the main characters in my head, but as for in-between, I'm just going to run with whatever strikes my fancy. Going to be fun after all the nitpicking I've been doing over the other, unrelated novel I'm trying to finish right now. :P

I'm going to go try and come up with an interesting title now. Hope to meet y'all, or some of y'all at least, at some point. :D

P.S. Julie, omg, I totally tried to add you as a friend on this site ages ago. D:<
