I would like to start a new tradition for LocoFoCo. I want to have our own Night of Writing Dangerously. I have already found a nice prospect (a hotel meeting room I wanted something that would feel nice for a large fundraiser) for holding the gathering, but I would have to put $400 down to reserve the space for us. So I started to do some calculations for that space. If we get 40 people to raise $35 dollars each, that would both repay me and raise about $1000 for NaNo. I am also looking for business to donate prizes that could be raffled off. What I want to know from LocoFoCo and the GreWriMo's is whether or not this sounds like something you would like to do? This also includes things like does someone have a nice space that would be cheaper so we could lower the minimum amount raised yet still make about $1000 for NaNo headquarters, or do you know businesses that would give donations for prizes, or well I think you get the point. I would like to do this on Sat. Nov. 14th from 8pm to midnight. because it's a saturday and a way to celebrate the halfway point.
What do you think? All input is welcome.

I really like the idea and think it could turn into something FoCo looks forward to every year. I have been thinking about having a sort of write-a-thon with a few of my non nanoers, where they donate 50 cents or a dollar for every page I write that night. That way I only have to spent like ten dollars, and then write LIKE MADNESS!!!!
I am not terribly worried about the place we choose except it should be someplace unique and worthy of a ritual such as this.

That sounds like something that would be lots of fun! I would love to do it, but I don't know how it would fit into my schedule. I'd love to give it a shot, though, so if something happens, I say let's do it.

I would love to attend something like this (I'd even make a special trip for it!) but I will probably have to work that night (stupid retail and not being allowed to take time off during November...). However, if I don't wind up having to work, I'd gladly make it happen!

This sounds like a lot of fun, but unfortunately I'm going to be out of town Nov. 4-21 :(. I'd totally be willing to do it if it were a week later, but it sounds like a great idea regardless!

I work for CollegeAmerica and I can "rent" the building for us to use that night. The great part is that we've got lots of classrooms/space to spread out in and it would be CHEAP! Just have to clean up behind ourselves, because a church uses the building on Sundays. Seriously, if it sounds like something you'd be interested in, let me know or email me at tel835@hotmail.com and I'll arrange it.
