Inquiring minds want to know... what story are you writing this year? Do you have your plot figured out?

Or are you still trying to decide?

I'm working on my family fantasy story idea that I had tried before. Going to try and not bog myself down this time with worries and second-guessing. Just write.

Hi, Margaret and All!

I'm working on the third in a series of books about Wiccan priestess Bliss Harper and the Coyote Song Coven. The first two were NaNovels in '07 and '08, and I'm really looking forward to getting to work on this one. It's outlined, and I have some notes and a few ideas floating around in my head, but . . . . Well, I can be pried loose from my desk for Thanksgiving dinner, but other than that, I'm glued to it in November. :-D

Well, right now my plot looks to be a present-day fantasy tale, w/ some coming of age elements. So far I've got that a girl finds a baby griffin (in egg or not, idk yet), and tries to figure out what to do. I'm thinking that the main antagonist will end up being her best friend, and she has to find someone who'll believe her and not try to kill it. I don't yet know how it'll end, but that's the beauty of letting the characters tell the tale.

A novel is a wild thing; you might create it, but it cannot be contained or conrolled.

Right now, my plan is to work on a Sci-Fi novel with a working title of "Empty Threats". This story will take off on concepts I played with in a sketch for Friday Fiction a few months back, titled, "The Requisition". The sketch story and characters won't appear in the novel, but rather just let me explore some ideas.

http://podtalesandponderings.blogspot.com/2009/06/friday-fiction-for-jun...

I know the basic plot and main characters of "Empty Threats," so over the next three weeks, I'll flesh out the plot and make an outline of what I want to happen in each chapter.

So, I worked at Buffalo Exchange from May to September of this year and it inspired me to write a satirized version of my experiences there with a little urban fantasy twist. I liken this story to what Buffy Season 6 would have been like if Buffy had worked in retail instead of fast food. :D I have a list of characters and a handful of events, but nothing really plotted out.

I currently have no plot. Which is kind of scary. Trying to come up with one. Was thinking about writing about someone who's a ghost and goes through and witnesses all the reactions of his friends and family to his death and reminisces about his past. Not quite sure how that would end though...(I swear this has nothing to do with the fact that I'm reading The Turn of the Screw at the moment)

My story this year is the seed that grew from an idea planted in my head when someone I was talking to said that even if I hate a certain popular paranormal YA romance book[/series], I probably couldn't do better. My feeling is that while I am certainly not the Best. Writer. Ever., when the bar is set this low, of course I can do better.

So I'm writing a YA fantasy, tentatively titled "Across," with a romantic B-plot. It's about two kids, Max and Yana, who cultivated a friendship in primary school by trading each other their various talents (pie and tutoring). Yana goes off to finish school (I'm calling it "tertiary school," hee) at an out-of-town academy, and eventually her letters stop coming and she doesn't come back for her holidays. Then Max gets a strange letter from her that he think signals a problem, and when none of the adults he tells (see, he really does at least try to do the reasonable thing) want to spring into action, he goes after her himself.

I will be switching POVs back and forth between Max and Yana, and the book involves alchemy, fried apple pie, time travel, airships, and people getting turned into trees. I think it'll be fun!

I spent most of September trying to come up with any idea at all. My brain was quiet for the first time in my life.

Then Oct. 1st rolls around and I have 20 ideas. Great!

I decided to go with Julia and her urban myth world. She lives in a town near the sea with street performers, faeires, and mythological beasts walking around. Or at least she believes they are walking around. No one else seems to notice or care. She struggles with reality everyday.

I'm stepping away from my normal shifter novels and writing one I've had on the back burner for a while.

My heroine is dead, but her bosses have other plans. They are sending her back to earth in disguise to help her widower move on, he's been holding on to her and unable to push his life forward.

I kind of picture a comedy/drama thing, I expect some crying and for once, no erotica which is weird for me but it doesn't fit here. Should be a fun month!

No clue. Absolutely no clue. I mean, I'm thinking about a satire of working in IT today, or pulling a few old characters back, but I don't know.

But this is probably going to be my least stressed November in years, so I can't *not* try.

I do mostly urban fairytale stuff, so I have some idea of what I want to do regarding characters and lives, but without much of a plot, heh. Last year the plot kind of smacked me in the face because I had just started a new job and there immediately sprang into my head a plot regarding that type of job, but now I am still in the same job, and without that new idea. xD I sort of want to do a Halloween type story, with the backdrop of fall and lovely weather we have lately, but that idea might be iced, seeing as I think it might be better in a short story format, as opposed to a longer one.

Idk. Plot will hit me before then, I know it. I had a ton of ideas in my phone, since that's where I keep stuff when it strikes me, but sadly, Tmobile kind of killed my data so now I am sort of idea-less. Sorta. I'm sure it will strike again.

I don't usually talk this much. D: I think the fact that it's four am is making me kind of loopy. >.>

I still don't know what I'm writing about. I have some ideas, but I suspect that if I get stuck, a dragon will appear in my story. I just hope it isn't in the middle of a shopping mall or something. Of course, that'd certainly make things a little interesting...

Kung Fu Panda II

Yes, I know the movie is coming out next summer, but want to get how I would contine the story on paper before the "real" movie comes out.

Japanese ninjas invade China and kidnap Master Shifu and an infant tuttle who may be the reincarnation of Master Oogway. Po, as acting Master of the Jade Palace, must rescue his Master and the child. The Dragon Warrior, the Furious Five, and their students are not enough to turn back the Ninja invaders. Po must go to Chor Gom and beg the assistance of his worst enemy. But can even Tai Lung's ability to move unseen match Ninja invisibility? And can Po pay the price Tai Lung has demanded for his help?

I'm writing urban fantasy this year. It was borne out of my frustration after reading really bad urban fiction, one after another. When I was whining to the S.O. about it, he rolled his eyes and said, "So, write one that's better. Yeesh." And so I decided I would. :D

Here's the summary I typed up for the "Novel Info" page:

Tayce Gorski is a golem, created by Peter, the most powerful blood mage the world has ever known. When Peter died, he granted Tayce her freedom, but fearful of an eternity spent alone, Tayce decided to create a golem to keep her company whom she named Cotter. Together, they have peaceful and quiet lives in a city known for its high population of supernatural creatures.

Unfortunately, that peace and quiet is disturbed when Dorian Escarot, one of the local vampires, asks Tayce to do a scrying spell for him. A powerful vampire has escaped and Dorian needs to know how. It should have been an easy spell, except something goes terribly wrong and now Tayce may have her very own vampire stalker. She just wants to steer clear of vampire business, but how long can she keep avoiding trouble when there's a killer vampire on the loose and the a vampire feud amongst the Escarots? Will she help Dorian -- even if it means risking her peaceful life?

Meh, I actually didn't want any vampires in the story, but they're so convenient. I'm thinking this will be the first in a series.

Since I'll have the bouncing baby boy on my knee for half of November, I'll be working on a YA contemporary about a teen girl who is obsessed with having a baby of her own. The problem is that she's never even had a boyfriend. I can't decide if this will be a serious or whimsical story. I may make it more humorous because I dont' really feel like writing anything depressing right now. All I know is that it will be very character-based, and I'm going to just run with it.

The working title of my science fiction novel is "I Am the Pattern Seeking My Own Permanence" and the protagonist is a young woman benefiting from rapidly improving gender reassignment technologies. Through her unique perspective, I am interested in exploring how emerging technologies will impact humanity over the next two decades.

I'm working on an idea that was half-formed a few weeks ago and is, well, maybe three-fifths formed now. The story is called "Shunt", and it's about a character who learns how to rewind small sections of time ("Shunting", he calls it). He is able to, in effect, grant himself "do-overs".

The story is really about how power changes people and how they can delude themselves and justify selfish - maybe even evil - acts. Depending on how I'm feeling on November 28, 29 and 30, there may be some redemption at the end, or the story might go full-on cynical and have the MC stay a jerk... it remains to be seen. ;)

I'm writing smut. ^__^

Okay, not really. Sadly. Most of the smut was in the last book. Perhaps there will be smut in the next book. But this one is mostly smut-free. I'm writing the middle book of an epic fantasy, and my MC is searching for the soul of his lover, that was torn from him in the climax of the first book.

There will be a wee bit of plotty smut at the very end. Next book, the boys will take on the gods.

It is much, much fun.

Traditional fantasy with a lot of dark element. The bad guys are ruling the world. Dwarfs and Elves have been slaughter, humanity enslaved. Forest burned, Unicorns hunted to extinction, etc. In all of this The three protags get a chase to change their lives. It is not all dark, there is some comedy relief in a dragon who is a cross between Yoda and Jack Sparrow. He wasn't meant to be like that, but he insisted. Who am I to argue with a dragon, right?

Ah, analogous to real life. Love the dragon - and the fact that he wanted to be that way. That happens with mine as well.

Mine is about healing and romance - about a woman, betrayed by corporate America, meets a healer (bartender) who also heals horses, he helps her not commit suicide and put her life back together and figure out what her passion really is and how to act on that. She in turn helps heal some of his dark past. Corporate bad guys get it in the end (at least that's the plan). He's Ben McCullough and he just told me he was educated at Edinburgh, she's Callie Campbell software engineer. Set in Tucson, AZ.

I'm writing a steampunk fiction this year. Fun fun. Joseph Baldwin is a severely bipolar/unstable inventor who lives as a hermit with his mechanic and multitudes of cats. He develops a type of technology that allows him to transfer a small piece of his consciousness into a central core that he puts into his robots, allowing him to directly control them with his mind. He's recruited to work for the government, and the renowned man he works for steals his idea, using it to cause mass chaos and destruction. So Mr. Unstable has to save a world he hates anyway.

It is the not so distant future and humans have some settlements on a distant planet and no connection back to earth. (Whoa, wait, I thought my genre was fantasy...) The sapient species that came before are the Quanafi, Yawurenyi and Myuri all of whom live much as we might have in the bronze or iron age. However, the humans need to rely on the Quanafi at least for their very survival and so when the Quanafi say that the mermaids no one has actually seen that the Quanafi call "Mircon" should be protected, the humans go ahead and do so, after all, the Mircon are just myths of a bygone age, aren't they?
Deep in the ocean a girl named Meliak has heard rumors of people living on land but never gave it much thought or credence until her sister got trapped in a net made by these land dwellers. Having to rely on them for help, she ended up learning their language and working with them to remove the nets. Then she is asked by her queen to travel to the countries of the land and be an ambassador to them as she is the only one with the connections and language skills to do it.
What will happen when the myths come alive and want to become our allies?

(Yeah, that's about the size of it, hmm I wonder if that can count for word count... *runs off to find a way!* )
