Hello one and all!

I'm basically just wondering - are there any Israelis that are entering NaNo this year? And if so - where are you? What are your writing plans? Do you own a cape?
The last one, not really...

Right here! No cape, though.

Writing plans are basically to go at it full force - write first, think later. Tried NaNo a few times before but didn't really make it past the first two thousand, mostly due to time constraints... this time I'm hoping to do better.

naama,
last year i tried the "write, don't think" strategy.
after 3 days i stopped & revised my strategy to "know where you're headed" - i wrote in points facts & details & plot summery (total of 10 point) to guide me writing.
(still, most of the writing was done from the fingers, but at least i know where i want to go in the general direction...)
:-)

I've only made general summary and characters... and a box of names! so I don't waste time trying to come up with names for characters and minor characters.... I'll probably do some more planning during the month.... I was successful last year but my pacing was terrible... I was worrying I'd finish too soon so the beginning was dragged and the ending was rushed... my goal this year - pacing!! I'm gonna try and plan that too...

Have cape will travel.

I'm definitely participating this year, even though I'm in the army, and it'll be pretty much impossible. I'm optimistic, though. Anyhow, I'll be in the Jerusalem area and in the Tel Aviv area, either one or the other.

If I reach 30k I'll be pretty proud of myself, methinks.

Is everyone here writing in English? Or anyone in Hebrew? Or in any other languages?

know where you're headed
I agree with the "Know Where You Are Headed" approach, but learned not to micro-manage my plot! One of the amazing aspects of "getting into" the writing is that the characters take on a life of their own ... at least for me. I often feel like I'm running after them, trying to keep up. Knowing where they HAVE to arrive gives them and me a sense of direction, but over "directing" the characters ends up lifeless, again, at least for me.

I do "research" the biographies of my primary protagonists. By 'Day One' I know their life story, at least the "back story" that might not reach the pages of the book but that are important for me to 'get into their heads' and help communicate their reality on my pages!

You might find YWriter a good tool for all the above. I actually use Q10 to do my actual writing but organize the written material scene-by-scene, chapter-by-chapter in YWriter 5.

Have a great month!
Yoel

שלום לכולם!

I am writing in English (I think it would take me 100 years to write a novel in Hebrew!).

This is my third attempt at NaNo. I was successful in 2006. I failed miserably in 2007 and didn't even try last year as I was dealing with 6 month old twins. Well, the kiddies are in gan this year which gives me the whole morning to write.

I find I write best if I plot it all out first. I have a brief outline of the first ten or so chapters written thus far and hope to have them all outlined before the first. I also try and take it one day at a time. I don't plan on writing on Friday and Motzei Shabbat so that leaves me 22 days to write. So as long as I reach the goal of 2275 words a day, I am set to win this thing :)

good luck everyone!
Sara

Hi everyone! This will be my second year doing NaNo... my strategy is 2,000 words per day or bust. It worked last year!

I'm writing historical fiction this year and I would love to meet with a group. (English or Hebrew.) Is anyone interested in coming to Kiryat Bialik for meetings? If so, I'd be happy to host! Otherwise I might try to convince the fantasy group meeting in Tel Aviv to admit a historical fiction writer. :)

I would be up for meetings in Tel Aviv, Haifa, or anywhere in between. Let me know! It could be fun to meet with an English-speaking group last year as I was pretty lost in my Hebrew-speaking group last year.

We should have a kick-off party!!

My 2nd year running and the adrenalin is building. I plan to continue rambling along haphazardly continuing where I left off.

Last year I finished on day 21 but almost crashed and burned at about 35K.

I have no idea on what pace things will happen.

Hoping a few negev dwellers join the madness.

Shalom le-koolaaam!!!

If I decide to participate this year, it would be my 5th Nano. Now, if I only had an idea what to write about, I'd be all set.

Nice to see there are more Israelis in on this, thought I was the only crazed Israeli trying :)

Now I just need to fig out what I'm writing by tomorrow night, or at least get an idea for a genre...

Anybody having some meetups? I might just drop by... Feel free to facebook me so we can keep up with eachother's status lines: Ran Halprin

Well welcome Rena!

(My daughter is also called Rina but with an 'i'!)

Check out http://NaNoIsrael.wikidot.com for more information about the Jerusalem group. There is also a calendar that works and all planned activities are listed. We are also trying to get some kind of Skype conference calling going if you want to share your Skype address with the rest of us. send it to me via NaNoMail or to YoelBA@gmail.com and I'll add you to the calls.

Need any additional assistance? Post to this board or give me a call!

בהצלחה

I'm in the 49000 territory already (to go that is). Hey Yoel, any prizes yet?

A few Negev dwellers may pop up and say hello.

Good luck to everyone
