I'm trying to get a list of folks who are writing in Carbondale, so if that's you, comment here! Also, I created a Kickoff event on Facebook, so go ahead and look that up if you're interested: Carbondale NaNoWriMo Kickoff. Locations and times aren't definite; I'm just trying to gauge interest.

Hope to see you guys soon!

Vaquero,

Can you post up a link to the Kickoff event page? Thanks!

The link is here:

Currently we have 14 confirmed guests and 11 maybes, so if even half of those people actually show up we'll have a decent Carbondale group. Come join!

I put it up on our Google Calendar, which I will be linking to the forums whenever I have a chance.

Vaquero, shoot me an e-mail at seanjjordan1@gmail.com and let me know what other Carbondale events are planned. I want to make sure to let people know, because we have a few folks who are signed up from communities roughly in between Carbondale and St. Louis, and they might want to know their options.

Ooh, that's me! It's good to know there's at least one more person in Carbondale doing this. Any thoughts on seeing if we could crash Longbranch occasionally, too? Their coffee's better...

I am writing in Carbondale! I actually live in Cobden so the ones way up in Fairview/Collinsville are definitely out of the question.

I haven’t actually been to a NaNo write in even though this will be my 4th year. Heck, I haven’t managed to finish one yet! I have tried it with a planned out story twice and a not planned out story and it all comes down to not finding time or motivation to keep writing after 8 thousand words or so. This year, I thought I would try outside pressure. : )

Deb

p.s. Any firm plan on kick off for C’dale folk?

Deb, there's a kickoff party on Sunday, Nov 1 from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM at Common Grounds. Here's the Facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=151842616999&index=1

If one of you Carbondale folks who has been involved in NaNo for a few years is willing to step up and organize events down there, please let me know via email (seanjjordan1@gmail.com) so we can get you added to the calendar and blog as a moderator.

Samuel Holley is the person who created the Facebook event, so you might also want to get in touch with him (ssholley@siu.edu) before you volunteer just to see if he's got anything else planned.

We're doing info meetings the week before up here in the St. Louis area - if someone would like to run one in Carbondale, I'll make you a poster you can put up. Just let me know when and where it is.

Also, I want to organize a "Southern Illinois Write-In" where we can get everyone from the region together in one place! So once you guys get organized down there, let me know. I was thinking we could do it on Sunday, Nov 15.

So, we have a kick-off, but what about the rest of the month? Now I haven't done this before, so I'm not sure if I'd be a good ML. However, I am willing to help out. I think either Common Grounds or The Longbranch are our best bets. The question is when do people want to get together: morning, noon, or night. I'm available most of the time, these days, but I know many of you have busy schedules. Of course, this could all be decided at the kick-off, but people might want to plan ahead.
So, what does everyone think?
Matt

I'm not sure how we should schedule big events, maybe one in every time slot (morning, afternoon, evening) per week and we can just go to whichever one suits the individual. Let's say Monday night, Wednesday afternoon, and Friday morning or something like that. We don't really need to be super organized, just make a sticky thread that announces the general setup and let people post modifications or impromptus as need be.

Nominate someone in your group to keep the calendar updated, and I'll give them access to edit the calendar. No problem at all :-)

I'm pretty sure I can do that. I'll need input on when/where people want to meet. If you leave it all up to me, we'll be on the roof of some godforsaken building at 3am. Not sure how that happens, but it's amazing how many things seemed like a good idea at the time. Nano-mail me with input.

I'm in Carbondale and would definitely like to do meet up with people. I signed up as a maybe on the Facebook group since I think I'll be able to go but I'm not completely positive on that one yet.

I set up a Carbondale NaNoWriMo hash tag: #CdaleNaNoWriMo for anyone interested.
