Alrighty, so I've had a couple of offers to help with getting posters out there. I don't really want people to overlap too much, so here's a plan that gets a few people involved.

PiscesMuse:

Go ahead and get posters up across Azilda and Chelmsford. I'm excited to hear that they'll be going up that route. Don't put up too many though. Get whatever counts as the main streets, and any community boards in the area and that'll be great. Thanks for volunteering!

Rintaran:

I've already got signs up on Lasalle from Notre-Dame to Barrydowne, and on Barrydowne from Lasalle to the Silver City. Stopped in and got the community board in the Metro on Lasalle and in the New Sudbury Shopping Centre too. Total of 86 posters on that stretch. Next week I'm going do Notre-Dame from Lasalle all the way to Regent.

Sabrina:

My beautiful fiance has offered to get a few posters up around Cambrian in the next few days. So that area will be covered. :)

Steph (scribeofelidae):

Any chance you can get some posters up in the downtown core? I'm thinking between the tracks and Paris, wherever there are traffic lights, and that pocket. No need to get too crazy since most of the downtown is ignored, but a bunch down there would be useful. Would you be willing to do this for me?

Sylvie (sinful_cinnamon):

I know you're pretty busy with your Masters program, but any chance you can get a few posters up around the University when you're next up that way? That's probably going to be prime area for snagging possibly interested parties.

Andy (SooGuy68):

Andy's volunteered to get some posters up in the Val Caron / Hanmer area (ie the Library, the mall, grocery stores). Thanks Andy!

Can anyone think of any major areas that we'd be neglecting?

I can probably manage something this weekend. We can discuss at the Underground meeting. I think I'll need a roll of tape, though ... most of the posts downtown are concrete, IIRC.

Can't wait to see the signs around town! Ooh, and I can post it up at work, too, and the main branch of the library, and William's let us put up the sign last year, and I bet La Fram will let us, too! Ooh, and Comics North!

OK, I'm trying to post from my phone, so please excuse any weird behaviour... Lol. Yeah sure Shawn, I can definitely put up some posters on campus. We can talk about it on Thursday at UW. Speaking of, I'll be late for that, supper for my best friend's birthday. Anyways, I'll see you guys whenever I can get there... :)

Thanks Steph & Sylvie! I just used scotch tape for the corners wherever I couldn't hammer in some staples with my broken staple-gun. I've got a couple extra rolls so I'll bring them Thursday.

You're missing Lively. I don't live out there anymore though, else I would help.

If you put something up at the library in Lively, the doctor's office, see if they will let you leave something at the dentist's upstairs, Batistelli's...check with the local stores too, they're all in the same area. It's really quick to paper down Lively.

Azilda and Chemmy are done. About 35 posters total - assortment of the two different types. Attacked the sheltered bus stops, main walking areas, and inside bulletin boards.

Good job PiscesMuse. Sabrina's putting up 10 posters on Cambrian campus tomorrow. That'll bring out total number of posters to 132. I just finished printing out 100 posters for my trek along Notre-Dame/Paris. I hope it gets me the whole way there and back.

I had forgotten Lively. My manager at the store also mentioned Garson and Copper Cliff. Anyone planning on being out those ways sometime in October? If not, no sweat. Most people from those areas come into one of the main drags of Sudbury several times over the course of a month.

RINTARAN - i should be out there this weekend, but my printer is out of ink and I'm still catching up on paying three months of bills. If you can drop some off for me friday i can take them out there with me.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that some people are actually noticing the flyers! One of my friens emailed me today and asked me if I knew about the novel-writing "thingy" they saw on flyers. Keep up the good job!

Rhennaya -- I've extras I can provide. Do you want them dropped off at the Northern Life offices downtown (I can do that before my meeting tonight)? Or is there someplace else you'd like them?

Mageling -- Good to hear. Did you talk them into it?

I was contacted by a City of Sudbury Bylaw officer yesterday afternoon while I was stuck at work.

Apparently in Sudbury:

  • its illegal to put up posters without a permit

  • a permit entitles you to 50 posters
  • they can only be placed on specific posts
  • no one else can already have their poster on that post
  • cannot be affixed using anything other than rope, twine, plastic or nylon straps
  • cannot be placed on poles on street corners
  • and must adhere to a hundred other stipulations that are equally or more ridiculous

As such, I'm going to have to request the posting of signs on public property in the Sudbury area to be halted for the time being. You're encouraged to go into businesses, libraries, schools and obtain permission to hang a sign in their window or at their registers/front desk. I'll be filling out the forms but in all likelihood, I'll probably end up just going around and pulling down the signs... It sucks, but apparently so do local bylaws.

Rintaran - fill out the forms, it's not hard.

And if you do want to still have some posters in Lively, there are places I can put them that won't be affected by the bylaw. As it is, I think I can probably print one or two from my mom's place and put them up in the local stores.

Saw the posters at Fromagerie Elgin when I was setting up the art exhibit. Good job.

Filled out and faxed in the forms once I got to a working printer & fax machine. We've been given permit #POS-09-0050. Instructions also followed to remove many of the illegally posted posters (those violating street-corner and multi-poster poles), which I'm pretty sure I got all of. Since we are still capped at 50 posters, no more can go up on the poles since I'm pretty sure we're still at or near the 50 poster limit after what I had to take down.

A few more rain-storms and I'll take another count. Many will probably be washed away and we can get poles in other parts of the city to replace them. I stopped in at Chapters earlier today and the handouts that I had left there were all snatched up. Going to have to bring another load there too. Feels like we're going to have a busy year ahead of us. :)

Ken - Good to hear that you saw the posters at the Fromagerie. We checked out your display this past week. Looks good, but you can tell there's a bit of a gap in recent pieces. Did you add more stuff when you saw our flyers? I've always enjoyed that kind of stuff.

More pieces to come for the closing reception - especially to promote the corporate sponsor. Should have one piece for each reading by the Sudbury Hypergraphic Society members ready to go (artists permitting!).

Two sales so far! Not bad considering the last artist was a tad late removing his show. Can't wait to get the Falling pieces back from the framer on Tuesday. I'm very happy with how well the show is being received. Last year's exhibit at the Royal Conservatory was a definite plus on my CV so I can apply for more grant money - but this year's solo show and concert couldn't happen at a better time. The OAC grant information session last month was incredibly helpful, especially since they have opened up more areas to get money for professionals!

Shawn - If you don't mind could you drop of a few extra posters for me at the Fromagerie when you are in next? I can put them on the table they are giving me for the Nov. 1st concert. Maybe there are some parents that would be interested or we could get our first pre-school Nano participant! I'm sure they could write 50k on the Tumbleweed the guinea pig. Hell, I would if my topic wasn't already decided.

Thanks again for your support! I think things are now shaping up to be a great Nano month.

Ken - I'll drop more off on the pile at the Fromagerie next time I'm there. Just take a handful off the stack for the concert. I have plenty of extras printed because of the postering planning that the city's put massive restrictions on.

I may have put up some illegal posters as the ones on polls were put up with a staple gun. Oops. I hope you don't mind too much if I wait for the rain to wash them away. If it is a big deal (like they keep bugging you about it) I can go and take them down.

On the bright side I was going groceries in Chemmy and I had put up one of those posters with the tabies to pull off at the bottom on the groceries store cork board and several of the tabs were already gone. Kind of encouraging.
