Hey there,
I haven't done NaNo properly (with a group) since 2006 and the year after I moved away to college. I've graduated and I'm back so I was wondering if there were any considerations as to where the meet-ups would be this year. I'm in the Twinsburg/Macedonia area and I did travel to Cuyahoga falls for the even.
If our MLS or anyone else knows or have any idea, I'd love to hear it!
Starting over is so difficult!

This is my first time doing NaNo period. Why do we need to meet in groups?

Hi, Thatfilmgirl
Amy here (one of your co-MLs, the other being Shannon, aka Shannondoah). Welcome back to NaNo and congrats on your graduation!
We're considering doing write-ins every Wednesday evening around 7 p.m. at the Panera in Cuyahoga Falls. The meetup kick off will most likely be in downtown Akron but we're willing to entertain other ideas and locations. Thoughts? Ideas? Places? Let us know!

Hi, C.D.
The meetings are purely optional. It's an opportunity for AkronNaNos to sit together, pound out their word count for the day, and have a little fun in the process. Some writers need a break from this solitary pursuit. Others prefer to remain holed up in their attic-bedroom-garage-living room.
The write-ins are also a great way to meet other writers in the Akron area. But again, they're optional. The nice thing about NaNo is you can choose your level of participation.
Let us know if you have any other questions about NaNo and welcome to the challenge!

This will be my third year NaNo'ing and I'm actually *very* excited. This year is the first year that my kid is old enough for me to leave home for a couple of hours while I attend Wednesday meetings! Yay! I also work with another AkroNaNo (KevLord) and can tell you how nice it is to be able to relate enthusiasm with another NaNo'er.
I can't wait to start NaNo this year!

Coming in to say "hi" sounds great, I would love to meet other word nerds LOL . I know where Panera is.
----------I have no laptop though, (we tend to fight a lot and it usually wins) so I write on my pc. I am a very very very shy person, until you get to know me then I'm just a motor mouth.

No worries, C.D.! Some of the events will be purely social, and others will be focused on cranking out the word count. Even without a laptop, the write-ins may be useful to work out your storyline, flesh out some minor charactors, or just soak up the writing vibes.

Thanks for giving me the heads up. I admit, I was nervous to come in since the old ML and I didn't get along.
NaNo 2006 was the closest I got to really completing NaNo (35k). I liked the aspect of meeting new people/socializing. We did Friday nights, which were perfect for me. I need to get out into the world and meet people lol, especially since I'm an "adult".
I was lucky enough to get an old laptop from my dad's work but we did have a girl come in once who did pen and paper (and that's what I did the first meeting). It really helps drive you to write (we did 10-15 minute word wards. Nothing like trying to beat someone with 2000 words of smut lol).
We did the back party room in Paneras (Cuyahoga Falls/Howe Ave) for our meetings from like... 7 until closing.
I'm also thinking of looking to set up a meeting at our local library but I don't know if we'd get anyone...
Amy, Shannon, will you guys be implementing a mailing list by any chance for write-ins the closer it gets to November?

Uh... hang on, hang on...
When you say you didn't get along with the old ML, you don't mean me, right? Because I'm the only other ML Akron has had, as its own region. Just wanted to clarify that one. I'm pretty sure you and I have never met.
