Yeah, actually I'm a bit upset that there isn't just a region called Youngstown.

I'm more surprised than upset that there isn't a Youngstown region. It's a pretty populated area round these parts.

If you really want a Youngstown only group, then you need to do what I did. I contacted the Office of Letters and Light and asked to be the Municipal Liaison for Lake County. Lake has one of the densest populations of all counties in Ohio. We had about 50 people sign on last year, but we never had more than 12 people show up at any one write-in session. What it comes down to, as in all organizations, is that SOMEONE has to volunteer to take on the responsibility and the tasks involved. If one of the Youngstown people is willing to do that, then you can have your own group. Otherwise, advertise that you are having meetups and just do it unofficially. There's nothing wrong with handling it that way!

Just relocated back to the area from NYC - I live near Canfield but I was also considering joining the Canton group, because I work there. But if anyone starts a Youngstown group, I'd much rather join that.

I Emailed the contact and received an email back already. Unfortunately, it began with "Alas,"

They'll only add a region if someone volunteers to be a ML. And to do that. you have to have verified a Nano Win.

I Live in Boardman and would be able to help organize Write-ins, but could someone else Volunteer to help get our own region?

I think its too late for someone to become an ML, at least for this year. But, like someone else mentioned, we could do it unofficially. You know, have a place to meet up on like Saturdays or something. Maybe a local library? Or a coffee shop possibly. Even if it's unofficial, I think it could still work. I can't help organize write-ins (wouldn't even know how to go about it) but I'd be willing to go to a write in if we had them (I'm near youngstown myself.) I could also place flyers in public areas so NaNoers would know where to go.

Last year we made an agreement to meet at Panera in Boardman, I was the only person who showed. it was crowded but I wrote 500 words.

I have attempted NaNo for 4 years and have never even made it to the half way point. Last year was a total wash, but hope springs eternal.

The Canton group does chat room as well as live events, I've sat in on a couple of those.
This years inspiration is Naked Lunch, if that incoherent pile of word could be called a novel then why am I trying to make any sort of sense. I'm aiming lower.

Okay... I'm sure a lot of us could swing that. But.... Panera is major crowded, and I know I wouldn't be able to concentrate. Besides Panera, there is a Barnes and Noble in the same plaza... but I don't think they would appreciate us swarming there.

I have another idea. A good possibility is a local library. There is the main branch in youngstown and another branch that i forget what it's called that's not too far away. And it has to be on the bus route (the main library is). And I know I couldn't do anything unless it was on a saturday. Unless it's after the sixth... maybe.... meh.

If anyone would like to chime in with some places they think we could meet up that are on the bus route (I'm sure I am not the only NaNoer in youngstown who uses the bus) feel free.

Youngstown here. There's also Panera in Canfield -- it's spacious and generally a lot quieter in the evenings.

If anyone takes over as Youngstown-area leader, please add me to any email list that might spring up: eliza.osborn(at)gmail.com I'll try to check back here, though!

Thanks, guys!

I've "won" for 3 years -- tell me what to do to get our own region, and I'll do it. But I don't know how much time I'll have for organizational stuff!

again, my email is eliza.osborn(at)gmail.com

What about meeting somewhere like Peaberry's? There's one in Canfield on 224 (across from Panera) and one I think on the YSU campus. I know the Canfield location has wireless.

I'd just rather go somewhere locally owned, and I don't think they'd mind.

Peaberrys sounds great to me! I've never been to the YSU one, but it's closer to me, so I'm game for either.

Peaberry's sounds good. I dunno if I'd be able to get to the canfield one though.... but then again we don't know if the YSU one has wireless... it should though, I mean it is on a college campus. I'll do a bit of checking.

ETA: Okay, All I got from my search is that it has 12 IBM compatible computers. Says nothing about wireless... and the hours are kind of ummm... early, unless we go on a penguin pre-party night. Anyone know anything about the peaberry's in canfield?

Peaberry's in Canfield has "normal" hours -- 7am-10pm, and definitely has WiFi & plenty of outlets. Full food & coffee & tea menus, too. http://peaberryscafe.com/

What times do we want to meet? Morning, afternoon, evening? We could stage a pre-NaNo meetup tomorrow to make sure that's what we want to do.

I won't be able to meet until Sunday at the earliest (Halloween plans!). At any rate, weekends are better for me, no matter what time.

I would bet that the YSU cafe has wireless too, but it might be limited to YSU students only.

Well you guys can do it tomorrow and if it works out, great, that's where we can have the meetups.... although we might want to have someone contact the manager (you know it will help them like us a bit better... there's going to be a lot of us [hopefully] )
And maybe we can make a rule that when we meetup there we have to each buy something (if it's not too expensive) so they'll let us keep using the place.

I think we should set up a write in at one of the libraries in mahoning county for this coming Saturday or at some point this month. The main library does have Wifi but isn't very outlet friendly.

My suggestions would either be the Poland Library the Boardman Library or the Austintown Library all three have wifi and are outlet friendly. They also have big meeting rooms that I'm sure they wouldn't mind letting us use if we had enough people and we called them in advance.

I am swamped with work this week so I couldn't help set anything up for this week but could help out in weeks to come. If someone wants to give whichever library this week and get the ball rolling I'm sure we could set it up so we can meet a few times this month.

Please contact me if you'd like, and I'll be happy to help in anyway I can when I'm free.

just nanomail me : ]
