Hi, folks!

Each year there are penguins in need of transportation to, from, or both to AND from a write-in or other event.

Each year we dedicate a thread to those who seek -- or can give -- said transportation.

Post here if you need a ride.
Post here if you can offer a ride.

Simple, no?

Some Safety Rules of Thumb:

- Give only GENERAL AREA info (e.g. North, South, Kyle, etc.) here in the thread.
- Contact the rider/driver via NanoMail for more specific location information.
- DO NOT POST YOUR PHONE NUMBER HERE. Again, if you wish to exchange telephone info, do so via NanoMail.
- If my scatterbrainedness made me forget anything, hopefully lazym will edit the post and insert additional safety info.

I'll start...

Typically, I can get where I want to go by bus, but admittedly I have this thing about being on the bus after dark. One too many drunk people passing out on my shoulder, I guess.

That said, the Midnight Write at Dragon's Lair starts well after the sun goes down, and I'm not too keen about being out that close to midnight -- especially on Halloween night. (Fraidy cat much, flick?)

If I *had* to, I could take the bus up there... but there will be absoltuely NO way to take a bus home, as the buses will have stopped running by then.

Is there a kind soul planning to attend the Midnight Write that would consider taking a Southie to and from the event? It would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the consideration. I hope to see many, many people there!

Great job, flick!

I only thought of one thing - which we've never actually discussed before. We've got a wonderful bunch of folks in the Austin group - which is probably why our group keeps getting larger and larger. I'd get in a car with any of the Wrimos I've met, but I haven't personally met everyone. So, please use your common sense before riding with a stranger -- especially those of you in the younger set.

If you can come to the kickoff (or midnight write or any other event) and meet some of the folks who carpool, you'll probably know right away if you would be comfortable riding with them. If you can bring a friend along the first time you accept a ride, that might not be a bad idea, either. And before getting into a car, or letting someone get into the car with you - if your intuition tells you something's wrong - it's better to be possibly embarassed than to put yourself in danger.

I really really really don't want to put a damper on the carpooling thang we've got going here - it's worked without a hitch for years. I also really really really don't want anything awful to happen to anyone in our amazing group! So, y'all be careful out there!

Hello all!

I am a mother of three (establishing my harmlessness - though my kids might disagree!!) and I come equipped with a mini van! I live in Kyle so any of the southern fringe-ers are welcome to hitch a ride with me if I am going to an event.

This year, I live off of Anderson Ln., and would be happy to provide rides to north-central WriMos in need of transportation.

I am working retail this year, so as of now I can only guarantee that I will be attending the Midnight Write (that is, I *know* I will be attending write-ins, I'm just not sure when at the moment). But PM me if you live northish and would like transport.

Hi, everyone! I live in Northwest Austin, near the 183/620 intersection. I've got a car that seats four, and would love to pick up anyone who might be on my way! :) Nanomail me if you're interested.

Well, as has become usual, I will be available for people who need rides and, since I'm coming from Bastrop, can take people from pretty much any part of Austin to pretty much anywhere else. However, my work hours are even stranger than last year, so there will be a lot of events I can not attend.

For instance, I now work a 12-hour night shift on Saturday and Sunday, so there's little chance I'll be able to attend anything on those days. The Midnight Write is a vague possibility, but I won't know for sure if I can attend that for another week at least. I do, however, have Friday nights off, so I'm totally there for the lockdown if anyone wants to lock in a ride early!

Once I have a better idea of just which events I'll be able to attend, I'll post a list, but it never hurts to nanomail me and ask if I'll be going to something if you need a ride.

Oh, and as proof of my trustworthiness, flick is still alive. I've driven him lots of places!

A little maimed, perhaps... but alive. ;)

(Did I see the lockdown on the calendar? Was I looking? *runs off to explore*)

(20 minutes later...)

Yes!
I am so there!

Hi! I live in central austin, not too far north of UT. I'm blind and can't drive at night (my day driving skills - there's a trick to it! - fall under that 'use your common sense' thing mentioned by our wonderful moderators, otherwise I'd offer). I can bus around reasonably well, but if the weather's nasty or it's late, or the location's off the beaten path, I'd really appreciate any rides I can get. If anyone is roughly in the neighborhood who'd be willing to give me a ride to various write-ins, shoot me a NaNo mail. I'll do my level best to ask a few days in advance of any given write-in. Offhand, I'd greatly appreciate a ride back from the lockdown, if anyone's going in my vague direction afterwards.

Hello! I live right around where 45 and 35 meet in Round Rock. I have a small saturn that can seat 4 (5 if you want to be friendly in the backseat with the others) and although I'm new to the area I know how to use Google Maps, commonsense, and have this weird knack for going the right direction when I'm not trying to, and the wrong direction when I'm trying to go the right way. I'm also from Wisconsin, (SIdenote: Despite this, I have a clean driving history, haven't hit anything but a curb but that was in the middle of winter in Wisconsin... so you couldn't see it anyway. I don't even have a parking ticket on my record, or even been pulled over for a warning. So, I'm a *very* safe driver. Heck, on the drive from Wisconsin to Texas, I drove most of it, clocking in around 15 consecutive hours and a total of 25 or so hours.) and I'm pretty good at following verbal directions when in an unknown area!

That said, I'm not sure which events I plan on going to. I might go to the midnight start, but that would depend on what I plan on doing for Halloween. Which at this point, I have no clue. If I don't have any plans I might go for the heck of it, and I'd be willing to bring anyone else to and from, especially if you live nearby!

Feel free to NaNomail me, I don't bite! Though, I must warn... the music playing in my car changes very rapidly and can include anything. Especially if it's Japanese. Or danceable. But I'm willing to bend. I have a little bit of everything on my ipod. ;)

I'm in the Marble Falls area, I can give rides if anyone's in need. I won't be able to go to all the events but if you give me a heads up I'm sure we can work something out. :)

I live in San Marcos, so I can pick up anyone in San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, or South Austin. Not sure yet which events I'll be attending though. But you can always check with me and see.

Including crazy.

Oh, like you didn't see that one coming! Of course, I'm gonna pay for it at Lazer Tag. Then again, how much more can they do to me? Ooo! Sounds like a line from a movie that's immediately followed by scary music.

I've ridden with Kendra, too, and she's only a scary driver if you're in another car!

OUCH!

Not the trunk!

Any chance of a ride to the Art Opening tomorrow evening? Picking up downtown or south Austin, driver's preference, home to south Austin after.

Silver: Oh, no, I saw that one coming. I was just wondering who was going to pick it up and how long it'd take!

And, an update to my previous post. I just had it confirmed today that I will be out of town Halloween weekend, so will NOT be making it to the midnight write this year. Sorry, folks!

In addition, I will not be able to make any write-in that occurs on a Saturday or Sunday. I will, of course, be at the Green Muse every Wednesday morning, and I will most definitely be at the 12-hour lockdown on the 13th, so if anyone would like to lock in a ride to or from the lockdown in advance, feel free to nanomail me. I have space for 3 in my car.

With my favorite ride out of the running, I'll really need a ride to the Midnight Write. I have my brother's car, but the taillights are out so I can't drive it after dark. And it has other problems so I'm trying to drive it as little as possible.

I live near Ben White and Manchaca.

You can have the car if you'll take the brother.

Hey guys! I'm a student at UT, so no car. But I'd love it if someone near me could take me to events. I'm nice (I promise!) and I usually have some sort of edible something with me :)

Updating my information: I'm heading to the Midnight Write-In for sure! If anyone *really* needs a ride... and realizes I'm coming from Round Rock (and is hopefully on the way to the write-in from Round Rock....) send me a PM and I might be able to give you a ride.

flick (near intersection of Congress and Oltorf) and I (near intersection of Ben White and Manchaca) still both could really use a ride to or at least home from the midnight write!

Please?

We'll behave ourselves (RIGHT, flick?).

Silver, Flick;

If one or both of you could nanomail me the exact address (Or a street/business nearby) I could look to see how far it is from me...? I don't know the area well, so I have no clue where you are. :(

And no one's nanomailed me to ask for a ride, so I have enough spaces in my car for you both... if I could figure out where you lived. XD

Edit: I was able to find where the streets are. I could get you both even though it's way out of my way. I don't mind too much. :P

All right, folks. There's no way I'm making any live write-ins tonight (Monday), as I'm pretty much exhausted from the trip this weekend. I shall be attempting the virtual write-in, if my computer will cooperate. That said, however, I have plans to attend some of the write-ins this week while I"m off work.

Tuesday: Genuine Joes
Wednesay: Vino 100
Thursday: Cedar Park

And, of course, I'll be at the Green Muse on Wednesday morning.

Anyway, there's room for 3 passengers in my car, once I clean it out. For those who don't know, I'm coming from Bastrop. While I'm more likely to take the north route into Austin when I'm headed for a northern write-in, I can just as easily take the south route and head north from there. So, if you want a ride to any of those three events, nanomail me!

Hey everyone!

I live in West Campus, and I can seat three (four if thin starving college students). I WILL warn that I'm a Houston driver :P But for my record, my only accident I was hit while parked by a police officer. I'm not sure that I will be attending all of the events, but fellow UT students, let me know if you need a ride and we can work something out!

I am now collecting transportees for the 12-hour lockdown! Two of the three seats in my car are taken, but I've room for one more. Both of my current transportees are in South Austin, but I will consider picking someone up from other areas. Please nanomail me if you would like a ride to the lockdown on Friday the 13th!

Folks, please note that space could be very tight at the 12-hour lockdown. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST RSVP TO LAZYM and you must be 18 or over to attend. I plan to post complete information on this event on our forum on Friday (the 6th.)

Looking for a ride to the write-in at Wells Branch on Saturday! I'll have a ride home from there, but I need to figure out some way to get from the Bartron Creek Square/S Lamar/Capital of Texas area all the way up north to CreativeFlux's write in. I don't mind if you're going a bit late, but I can't leave any earlier than 1. A ride would be incredibly appreciated!
