Everybody in Bakersfield! I know I only showed up to maybe two events last year, but hopefully I can make it to more this year? I'm very excited and I also have a laptop this year, so maybe I can join in write-ins and the like.

Anyway, so introduce yourselves, Bakersfield participants!

My name is Rachel and I'm 25 years old. I love to write but I guess that's a no duh. I'm focusing on the same genre as last year (my personal favorite genre) YA Fantasy. I'm not going to worry about cliches, just like last year. I'm tired of people and cliches. I just want to enjoy writing and enjoy reading and not think about how overdone something is. (Although I admit that even I have pet peeves, like red-haired heroines with spunk...)

I think you should take on the spunky red-haired heroine as a challenge. See what you can do to turn your pet peeve into a positive!

And don't I sound like a whacked out cheerleader, huh? :-)

Seriously, I'm in the same boat. I only attended a few of the meetings last year but hope to improve both in attendance and in wordage this year.

Anyhoo, for anyone who doesn't know or doesn't remember me, I'm Anna, I'm 30 (I'm still getting used to that one) and I'm taking another stab at nano.

Hi!

Hi everyone, I'm Ashley. I'm a Canadian currently living in Ridgecrest! I know thats not quite Bakersfield, but we're so small, I figured I'd come on over to the Bakersfield forum! A little about me: I am 23, I love reading and this is my second year in Nano. I didn't make it last year, but I'm feeling optimistic for this year!

Hehe. I'm excited to see other Bakersfield participants. I'm hoping to see even more! I like how I can band together with others, but somehow, it seems even more exciting to be able to chat with others about it in person, too, not just online (especially if you want a break from the computer!)

So, have you decided what you'll be writing this year?

Hello all! Greetings from your ML. Rachel, thanks for starting our board. I had surgery last week and this is the first time I've been feeling well enough to sit at the computer.

My name is Sarah (AKA Cat). I'm 33 and a librarian here in Bako. I'm trying out the ML thing again this year and hoping it goes better than last year, since I didn't actually finish last year. Once again, I'm ending the world, this time by alien invasion. Will there be any survivors? Not sure yet...

I hope to meet you all at the Kick-Off Party or at a write-in. The stickers this year are awesome!

No problem, I didn't see any topics here, so I thought I might as well make it. I'm glad you're trying the ML thing again this year, and hopefully I'll make a lot more of them than I did last year.

I haven't decided if I'm ending the world yet. I wish I'd come up with an ending first. Endings are always the hardest part for me...

Me too! I already have my beginning and end figured out, but the middle is always the hardest!

Really? I guess sometimes the middle can be a hassle, but I guess the thing with the ending is that I'm never sure how I should end it. I always want to do so much with a story that I end up wanting to make it longer than a single book. Argh, so then the ending feels too ambiguous.

Hey all, my name's Chris. This is my first time attempting NaNo. I live up in Tehachapi, but I went to college down in Bakersfield, so I have some history down there. Not sure how many meetings I'll make it to, but I'll try to make some of them.

Haven't decided what exactly I'm going to write yet, but I'm sure I'll come up with some form of loose-fitting plot elements to throw together!

Hey guys! I'm Shivani and this is my first Nano ever so I'm pretty excited about it! :D I think I'm the youngest on here so far; I'm fourteen and a couple of days. I want to attend some of the write-ins and stuff, but I live in Delano so I don't know if I would be able to get a ride often. :]

Oh, and I'm not sure if I want to write Mystery Sci-fi or Fantasy. Let's see where my mind wanders...

Hi Bakersfield group! I'm Laurie, and I hate to admit that I'm 39, but since you're sharing your ages, I'll come right out and tell you that I'm the old fogey of this bunch! This is my first year attemping Nanowimo and I'm looking forward to the challenge of writing a novel in a month. I hope to make it to some events.

Hello. My name's Michael and I've never tried a 50K run before. I've decided to go into November with a blank slate - no genre, no outline, no character studies. I'm hoping that decision helps put a leash on my compulsive editing streak. The downside of my clever plan is that it leaves me with precious little to talk about between now and November.

I know, I know - I had you at "Hello."

That's how I went after my first Nano and it totally worked for me. Good luck and nice to meet you.

Hi, I'm Elizabeth. I'm doing this for the first time, very much looking forward to actually producing lots of words. Usually, I write short stories, so this is my first attempt at something looonger... I'm mumble mumble past my twenties years old. I hope to meet you all soon. My story idea is science fiction, dystopian future. I too love the YA books- not sure yet if this is gonna be YA or not!

Hello. I'm Cherry Cherry and I was part of the NaNo group last year. I guess I'll be doing it again this year. I'm twenty-seven and work for a non-profit. I like writing, obviously, and also enjoy reading, hanging out at Starbucks, traveling, and spending money. I have vague notions about what I'll write this year. I will not be ending the world.

Heya, everyone. I'm Ed, and this will be my first time participating in NoNoWriMo, because I'm an idiot and manage to completely forget about it every year. I'm thinking about doing some slightly humorous superhero sort of thing, as I can't seem to get started with the fantasy stuff I've got boiling around in my skull. My big weakness is that I'm extremely unfocused, but hopefully, having a set goal and participating in the BakoWriMo community will help me out here.

See you all around :-)

Okay, first time in the competition and feeling very, very old (rich with life experience?). I'm 54, I write fantasy, and I'm just finishing up the first novel of a trilogy. Since I'm expecting post-partum depression (which, yes, can be experienced even post-menopausally), I thought this would be the way to re-energize, if not kill myself. Since the seeds of this fantasy sprouted before most of you were born, to be followed by a 30-year hiatus, you can see why I need the support of both deadlines and other insane people. On the other hand, I'm a living testimony to the fact that it is, and I quote, never too late. Looking forward (maybe) to November. (And what a surprise to find so many fantasy writers in Bakersfield. Survival?)

Hi, my name's Lacey, I'm twenty, live in Taft, and even though I'm a veteran of Nanowrimo, I've never actually finished one. But hope springs eternal. XD I don't think I'm ending the world, but I don't have an ending in mind yet. Or a middle. Barely a beginning, really. Hopefully less planning will mean more success. I hope to see you all this month. XD

I'm Serri, or Lindsey, if you would prefer using my real name. Obviously I live in Bakersfield. This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo, and I'm pretty excited, but nervous as well. Ive heard a lot about it, and figured this would be something to really motivate me to write more. I'm focusing on Fantasy, and hope that my novel all comes together in writing, like is is in my mind :P Glad to see some people from Bakersfield around here. Good luck to everyone!

I'm Chris. I'm 28. Moved to Bakersfield earlier this year after getting married. I know, everyone says that's the only reason peopel actually move to Bakersfield. Call me cliche.

This will be my fourth year participating in NaNoWriMo. This will be something to help fill my time in addition to the countless hours I spend searching for regular employment.

I'm contemplating starting without an outline this year and just writing -- but I fear that might bring about a huge writing block somewhere in the month.

I'm ready to start counting my words with all of you.

Hey I'm Carolyn and I'm 21. I did nano last year and went to most of the meetings. I'll try and make it to as many as I can with my school schedule this year :) [I have mostly evening classes]

I'm a senior at CSUB working on my English degree.
I don't really know what genre to put my story in to. Maybe mystery.

Hey everyone! My name's James and I'm 17. I've never actually completed a novel before, soI thought that participating in this would serve as the proper motivation. I dabble mostly in poetry and short stories, so we shall see how this spontaneous endeavor of mine ends.

Hi guys. I'm Sarah. I'm 26 and this will be my second year doing NaNoWriMo. Last year I didn't come anywhere close to finishing, but this year I'm hoping to get at least half way. I'm going to try to make the meeting on Friday, but I'll have to see how long my dog's vet appointment goes (he was recently diagnosed with diabetes). If I don't make it I'll definitely make it to meetings.

I'm so excited there's so many people from Bakersfield participating and looking forward to a fun November!
