Hi guys, former ML here ;)
One thing I did when I was the ML for Sudbury was contact Northern Life and the Sudbury Star. The Star ignored me entirely, but Northern Life ran a story on us. I had a horrible picture of me in my neon IM IN CHARGE shirt which led to everyone going 'I SAW YOU IN THE NORTHERN LIFE!' for weeks at work. /sigh
It was originally intended to run before the start of October, but a baby was kidnapped from a hospital and those stories definitely pre-empted us. I had a few calls from some nutjobs who didn't really understand the event, but because November was part way through, I doubt it did us any good.
One of the reasons why I am not participating in Nanowrimo this year is because my new job requires me to not 'creatively' write. Journalism-style writing is so very, very different from creative writing, and as I'm struggling to adapt to the new style I don't want to accidentally conflict myself. Next year, though, I expect I will be back. And I want to see Nano Sudbury grow hugely.
This year, I want to see Nano get some press, and I'm in the unique position of actually being able to help - I now work for NorthernLife.ca, and the reason I got this job is in part due to having done that interview two years ago. The person who hired me remembered me, and remembered my enthusiasm for the event. That had impressed her.
I want to interview as many of the participants in Nanowrimo in Sudbury as possible, especially those who have competed and completed multiple years. If possible, I'd like to have a small get together so I can take some photos as well.
I cannot make promises that the story will end up in the newspaper, but I can at least get it online.
Rintaran, I need you to send me the press-kit if you could?
If anyone is willing to speak to me about this, they can e-mail me, or call me. During the day call work, at night call home. I don't care either way.
