Let's say that, at home, small people and big people tend to demand some time and attention from you. What are some nice, quiet places in town to spend an hour or two writing? (This is provided you have some mobile form of writing implement - notepad, notebook, iPhone, etc).

Don't forget four legged "people" who want to pop a head in your lap and on the computer if you ignore too long. ;-)
Long as it isn't exam time, most of the local coffee shops are good places for writing. I used to love to work up on the second floor of Coffee Station snuggled in the big cushy chair. There is a coffee place behind the CS Wal-mart (its name escapes me at the moment) that also is usually pretty quiet. The Starbucks at the corner of Texas and Villa Maria is also usually quiet except for the breakfast rush.
If you are on a laptop and have a decent battery, almost any restaurant during off-times is a great place to go. I spent almost every weekend writing at Casa Ole at the mall for weeks, going in the time between lunch and dinner. An often overlooked pair of locations are the Bryan and College Station libraries. Almost always quiet, by nature, with decent seating areas. I've only popped in and out of the CS one, but I know the Bryan one has some nice quiet tables on the second floor and generally not high traffic areas. Both are often overlooked by the college kids as they usually hit the campus libraries instead. If you do have access to campus, during non-exam times the A&M library also has some great places to for quiet writing on the upper floors of Evans.

Have to second Collectonian about the libraries and coffee shops. And as far as the campus libraries go, even if it is exam time, certain floors are "silent" floors that should be relatively quiet no matter what.
Last year I lived alone and so writing wasn't a problem, but this year I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for "getaways" as well. If nature inspires you, you could also try writing in one of the local parks. Of course, it may get a little chilly outside in November, so I'm not sure how feasible that is. Plus you're limited by your laptop's battery life...

Oh man...did y'all see Coffee Station seems to be gone? Did it just get renamed/taken over, or is it really all gone? :-(

Sadly, the Coffee Station is no more. My son used to own it, then sold it to Vlad, who later sold it to a couple that totally changed out the type of coffee, etc. The last owners seem to have just up and left it.

Yeah, when they left the ceiling had collapsed and there were rent notices. However, someone has re-opened it under a new name.

Don't forget Hastings in College station.
They have a quiet area for writing.
I know because I go to the Brazos Gumbo poetry readings.
