This thread serves two purposes: one, to give people a place to let us know if they are planning on coming to our weekly NaNo events, and two, to help gauge interest in a quieter write-in, for those who might feel overwhelmed by the Mono craziness!
Remember, you can find all of our events, both weekly and one-time, official and non-official, on the Google calendar linked at the top of the forum!
This year Essbee is continuing the popular tradition of meeting up at Mono twice a week to write/hang out and relax a bit to destress during this crazy time of the year we call November. In addition, we're thinking about hosting a third weekly group for anyone who wants a pure write-in without socializing and with plenty of quiet. Our original location fell through, but Tchai Ovna has offered to set aside part of their teahouse for us once a week should we need them to, so...is there any interest in a quiet write-in once a week at a neat little teahouse in addition to the Mono nights? Let us know here!
And in the meantime, who's planning on coming to the meets? Come, now, don't be shy, speak up!

Tchai Ovna wont be any quieter than Mono so i'll be sticking to Wednesdays and Sundays personally but will be at most, if not, all these.

Oh b****r!
Wednesday nights are my other writers group down in Prestwick, kind of the wrong direction to do both, and there's only 1 train an hour on a Sunday, which for some bizarre reason, known only to Scotrail & god, takes between 56 & 63 minutes instead of the usual 30ish minutes. It probably stops at every station on route and maybe a quick detour somewhere for good measure! To get there for 1pm I'll need to leave home about 11.15 :-(
I remember someone 'accidentally' referring to Ayrshire as Ayrshite last year, I think she had a point :-/

Awww, tragic! Hopefully the other write-in will be easier for you to make it to? (Will we still be seeing you at the Sunday ones, then?)

I don't know :-( I've done a bit more delving and the reason for the slow trains is a replacement bus service between my local station and Paisley; presumably for track repairs as they did something similar last year but as the write-ins were Saturdays it didn't affect me then. Problem is I have no idea how reliable the bus service is, or if they wait if a train is delayed. Paisley station isn't the best place to be hanging around when there's not many people about.
I'll try though, last year I verified my 50k at Mono and celebrated with their very excellent vegan cheesecake :-)

Their vegan cheesecake is exceptionally good.
Are Wednesdays bad for anyone else? We are thinking of having a 3rd official meet during the week so what night does not suit people? Asking does not rather than does because if a night is absolutely out we'll obviously try to avoid it.

I'm going to ask what are probably obvious questions to others, but as a newbie i have no idea!! With write-in's how much writing gets done, compared to socialising? Also my laptop is old and the battery doesn't reall work (20mins is about t's limit?) so is there easy access to plugs at Mono? Do people bring laptops and work on their novels, or bat round plot ideas or what?

Hi Faith,
Dont worry about asking obvious questions - we like that incase we forget to say something that seems obvious to us but not to you guys! I'm also going to send out an email detailing more about these meets - just waiting for the main email to open up before this gets sent.
The pre and post write-ins are writing free zones. You are not allowed to write in them. If we see you writing we will smack your hand and remove all items. The other write-ins it depends on each person but we do have a request that you do not talk to others who are writing and disturb them though ofcourse socialising is part of it otherwise you could just stay home. We are also looking at venues for silent write-ins where those who prefer library type settings might feel more comfortable. I have to say i'm one of these people who cant work in silence so the quiet chatter of cafes helps me think and work much better than absolute silence.
Power sockets there are many in Mono, also wifi.
A bit of both as far as discussing ideas and actual writing as I said above but I know lots of people only write during write-ins so its very possible to do both, one or neither :)
Hope this helps!

Hi,
I'm returning for another year and can actually make almost all of the write-ins this year! Yay! Although, some uni work might have to eat into that time. :( But as I'm in Glasgow during the day now anyway.... I can make Wednesdays every week. :)
Can't wait for all the stressful fun to start.
Hope you have better luck this year essbee!

Hello all,
The Wednesday write ins are out for me. It's the same time as my creative writing class :) However I may try and make it along to the Sunday write ins. The lure of Mono cheesecake is too tempting..... ;)

Hey,
Sorry if this is a complety daft question, but what/ where is Mono? Where do we find dates in here for the meetings? Sorry but I'm a failure at technology, plus this is my first year getting involved in stuff!
Hope to hear!

Hey,
I'm sort of planning to come to the pre-nano meet thingy, if that's ok? My only problem is that I don't know Glasgow any more than the bus station and Caley uni, and a couple of shops at the most. Anyone want to meet before the meet so we can get lost together? I know there's a map etc, but really I have a very simple sense of direction :P.

Oukami brings up a good point (for some of us...*cough*me*cough*). Do we want to try and organize any carpools/taxi pools/other thingies to help out people who aren't as familiar with the Glasgow area as some?
I would so offer to be guide lady for a group if we all met up somewhere central, like one of the bus hubs, but since I still barely know what's within the mile around my flat, much less anywhere else...but if no one else volunteers, I could give it a try at least!

Sorry about the late reply, my notifications have been turned off apparently. This has been fixed, though!
If no one's NaNo-mailed you about this, Mono is a restaurant/pub on Kings Street in Kings Court. The exact location, and those of all of the other meetups, write-ins, and events, can be found at the top of the regional forum on our Google calendar. Hope that helps!

Last years experience for me was that a group of us would meet at Mono or 13th Note if Mono was busy. There would usually be a little bit of chat then everyone would get their heads down and work away. I can't speak for the people who didn't attend the write in's but there were six of us who regulalry attended (broken laptops permitting) and we all made the 50,000 word target.
There are a few power points but Mono didn't mind us pluggin our own extension cords in to provide power.
The only real down side is they don't do Bambi burgers.

Just a thought, last years Glasgow pre-nano meeting had 40 plus people in attendance. I've no idea what Mono is like on a Friday but Friday nights are generally the busiest nights in pubs anywhere in town. Is that really the best evening to be having an introductory meeting?

We have booked an area in Mono so there is no need to worry about space. But I will be being quite strict on RSVPs. More information to come in the next couple of days.

I woke up with a random thought this morning regarding the trip to Bute. Did you know Wemyss Bay station and ferry terminal now has a second-hand book shop open from 10 till 4? Brilliant little place if you have the time to check it out.

Hello.
I would love to come to the write-ins. Last year's were invaluable in getting me to the 50k line. The only nights I can't make are Tuesdays as I help at a youth club.
I have lived on the South side of Glasgow for years and do know my way around by bus and by foot. I am more than happy to help people less familiar with Glasgow to the find their ways to the meets.
