I was reviewing the calendar and it does not seam to have an official kick off party? There is a speech at SWG on Thursday, October 29. And there is the first write in November 2 at the library in New Sudbury. However, there is no kick off party?? Forgive me if I am wrong but after perusing the NaNo website it would seam that a Kick off Party is thrown for people to get to know each other before the frenzy of writing starts.

Now this is where my dual personality kicks in. Part of me wants to meet everyone first so that the first write in isn't so scary when I don't really know anyone. Another part of me however prefers meeting everyone at a write in with the safety and comfort of my laptop and novel to hide in. Either way I am not as outgoing as I pretend to be. What I am really trying to say is that I just really want clarification if I am missing an event on the Calendar or something and that I am okay with the first time I meet any of yous being as the first write in I attend.

P.S. Don't forget about a Thank Goodness it is Over Party. I am, though, totally cool with the approach: Lets just get through November first.

There will actually be three parties. A kick-off, a mid-month, and a TGIO. I'm just haggling with places about dates.

I wanted to get the kick-off for the 30th (as the 31st is so far out its unbelievable), but it seems most back rooms and upstairs are booked up. Originally I was going to be stuck doing inventory the week previous, but that's since been cancelled (yay!), so I'm going to try to book the upstairs of the Doghouse for Friday October 23rd, starting around 10:00pm. I know it's a little early, but it's either that or a week through November. I will be bringing the hipster PDAs with me (30 only), so everyone can have a pocket-copy of the write-in schedule. I really look forward to meeting everyone. I should have this fully ironed out by this upcoming Monday, and it'll hit the calendar once I have confirmation from The Doghouse.

I'd like to put the mid-month party for 10:00pm on November 13th in the backroom at The Laughing Buddha. Still have to make a phone-call about this, but I'm not too concerned about that date. Basically it's a night for us to relax away from our novels, poll each other for crisis-breaking tips, and enjoy an evening off. I expect everyone to enjoy themselves!

As for the TGIO party, it'll be December 5th. Potluck at my place. We'll be doing the treasure chest prize draws, recording any necessary bad singing if we lose our bets, breaking the donation pig, getting a group photo, and presenting winning certificates. I'm thinking 6:00pm, and will give my address when we're closer to the date. I have a futon in the basement, an inflatable queen size bed, a small couch in the backroom, and another bigger couch in the livingroom if it becomes necessary for people to stay over.

That sounds like a lot of effort Shawn!

Wow, I wasn't expecting the Kick Off party that early. Hope I can make it out.

I may have to pass on the TGIO party too. Boo! Oh, well. I should make it out to at least the mid-month party.

Starting at 10:00 pm?

Good lord, we're going to need an old fogey party for all of us crotchety bastards who go to bed at 11:00 pm. ;)

Steph -- It could start earlier, I'm good with that. I know a lot of people don't want to go to the bars until they're already happening, which is roughly 10pm... How about 8pm? Too early?

Andy -- The 23rd isn't set in stone yet. I was just really hoping to keep it from being a weeknight or in the middle of November. Too bad you won't be able to make the TGIO though.

Hey, can we have any more write-ins on the weekends? While I've managed to miraculously get weekends off for the next two months, my shift ends at 8:00pm every week night, making it really unlikely that I will make it to any of the weeknight events. :p

Anyone want to have a write-in on a good, old fashioned Saturday or Sunday?

I definitely be up for some weekend write-ins. We could post them here and open them up to the group once we figure out what works for us.

Are you more inclined to write before noon or afternoon on the weekends?

The only weekend I have a conflict with is Nov 21.

I can say, for the first time in about, ooh, two years, that I am good for any weekend, any time -- morning, afternoon or evenings!

God, I will miss that come January. :p

If the party is on the 23rd, I'm not sure I'll be able to make it, I have a friend coming in from out of town.

As for the weekend write-ins, bring 'em on! I'm in. :)

Haven't any sort of reply on booking the kick-off party yet. When I called Thursday, The Doghouse took a message and said they'd call back when it wasn't as busy, but I haven't heard a thing since. I'm going to try again tomorrow when things are open.

As for weekend write-ins, I'm generally game. I'll start up a new topic and we can put together a game plan on these additional writing sessions. I didn't want to overload everyone by having tonnes of write-ins.

Awesome. I look forward to seeing you there!

Big bells or little bells? Is there a jester hat to go with these bells and will they be attacked by ninja zombies?

Hello everyone! I plan to be at the Meet & Greet... I'm quite excited seeing as I've never been to one of these local NaNoWriMo things.
I'm actually still undecided if NaNoWriMo is a good thing to do this year (4th year university, YIKES), but I hope to be persuaded/forced when I meet all of you,

My real name is Christa, by the way!

Welcome aboard Christa! I look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

My first year doing this was my 4th year of my university program as well. It's tough, but fun and totally possible. Even if you don't quite make the 50k, every bit you do manage makes you feel that much better. I'm pretty sure Sylvie's doing her master's this year, and I know she's giving NaNo another go for her 3rd year here.

See you Saturday!

Hey Shawn - can you bring my copy of Hermann Hesse' Steppenwolf tonight to the Doghouse - if you get the chance.

Thanks

Ken

Look forward to seeing everyone there!

I can't make it tonight, guys. I'm sick :( Coughing up a lung or ten.

Edit: Eh, I might try still, but gods above, let me tell you, this cough is brutal.

The pre-launch party was last night at the Doghouse. It was a little bit smaller turnout than last year, but there were more writers and less supporters this time around.

This year we managed 10 writers (I think) and 3 supporters. Many thanks to those that came out and said hi. The party was a great chance to mingle, learn about each other's projects, and make fun of the UFC fights that were going in on the background.

I look forward to meeting those that couldn't make it out at the first write-in on November 2nd at the New Sudbury Library. I snapped a couple of pictures at the kick-off, and should have a camera with me at most write-ins / parties for random photo taking. I'm planning on putting together a scrapbook to help advertise OLL events over the next year, like at the Northern Lights Festival that I pushed it at this past summer.

If anyone wants copies of the photos, or doesn't want to be in photos, please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks to Shawn for organizing the kick off Party last night. It was a good time.

I counted 7 writers and 3 supporters.

Then again I may have been blinded by Shawn's neon shirt and couldn't see everyone that was there.

I think you're right. I counted through the pictures again and that's what I got.

The neon shirt was really blinding wasn't it?

Wish I could have been there but I had friends in from out of town. (But I felt like I was there - I could see the glow of Shawn's shirt from here... Hahaha)

I look forward to meeting those of you I don't know yet at the write-ins! :D

Q: What's the difference between bird flu and swine flu?
A: You get 'tweetment' for one, and 'oinkment' for the other.

- - -

With that said, I'm glad I didn't 'push through' feeling sick and go anyways, as I would have possibly infected you all with the lovely hell that is the H1N1 virus. I'm STILL sick. But I will do this article, so if anyone wants to call me tomorrow (28 of Oct), do it after 4pm at 692-9210 - I need some interviews to flesh out the basic article I've written up. First years, repeated years, you name it.

Thanks!
