I haven't had a chance to discuss this with TheJadeCat yet, but as long as I was on here I wanted to get some input from you all. Last year we gathered on the 31st and did costumes and such but I know that conflicted for some folks and I have a masquerade that evening though I could do earlier in the afternoon if that was th best day OR would the 29tg ( our normal gathering night) or the 30th be better. Any input?

The 30th would be awesome since I'm putting on a Halloween Party in my dorm at CMU with the rest of the Hall Council Executive Board on the 29th.

I'm available on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening. I think. I'll have to check. xD

A conflict has recently arisen for me on the 29th as well. Anne and I were talking about possibly afternoon on the 31st , kind of thing like we've done the past few years with the TGIO party. Would that be attendable or would the night before allow more people to come? I know we had some trick-or-treating conflicts for some folks last year and can honestly say I have no idea what that schedule is this year.

fyi, afternoon 31st works for me. (Pretty much anything except the 29th, really.)

I can't remember when (what time) we finished last year, but I might have to beg for a ride back to campus from someone/one of you if it's on the 31st! Last year's bus ride back was kind of nightmarish...Mike can attest to that.

If we're thinking of having the kick off on Saturday, it would be an afternoon event, not an evening one. :)

I'd describe it more surreal than nightmarish. Drunk freshmen crowding in all around us, girls in costumes that may or may not have been flattering, and guys in only minimal effort costumes ineffectively hitting on any female they saw...
Looking back it was sorta funny.
Anyway, yeah, as I said in another thread I can provide some transportation since it will put me right by the easy way onto I-127N.

It sounds like the 29th is out. I'm free anytime on the 30th, and the early afternoon on the 31st is fine too.

I'm probably going to wind up working all of those nights. . . the 31st is definitely out for me, everyone else in my department has major parties they're throwing, or kids they're taking trick-or-treating, so I know I'll be closing that night. But chances are strong I'll be closing all the other suggested nights too... <;_;> No kickoff for Kitty this year. But everyone else have lots of fun! =^_^= Eat some cookies for me!

As a newbie, I'm not sure I should reply to this...I'm afraid someone is going to be like, "YOU! NEW KID! YOU'RE NOT INVITED!" In which case I will go cry in a corner. But, if you're a welcoming bunch...my lack of life makes it so that any time, any day, alright with me. My friend is participating for the first time this year as well, and we're debating on a kick off party. You know, if the newbies are allowed to mingle with the cool kids.

Well, they're letting me come, and I'm a write-in/kick-off party newbie. :P Besides making someone cry in the corner is mean. :( Unless it's your character, then it's perfectly fine. ;)

Howdy all!
I am open to any time and date. The concern for me this year will be my physical limitations. I hope to be able to attend a couple of events this year but I guess time will tell, eh?
Regardless, best wishes to all!
Happy hunting!

So since we're having the kick-off this week, are we still having a regular Thursday thing? Or just the Kick-Off party?

Both. Regular Thursday, and I will be sending e-mail very shortly about the official kick off party. :)

I, sadly, won't be able to make it to the Kick-off. I'm working 11:30-7-30 -- boo! I'm gonna try to make it on Thursday, though.

I won't be able to make the kick off party on Saturday! ::cry!!!!!::
Unplanned trip to Florida this weekend to bring my granmother home. Which is going to toast my word count on the first day as well!
As I've said, if it was easy, anyone could do it!

What time is the gathering tonight (Thursday)?
Have we decided on a day and time for the kickoff??
Oh and one more thing....what about a regular meeting night? I thought I saw something about Monday nights. If so, that doesn't work for me :-(
Thanks

Tonight the gathering at Gone Wired is 7pm.
The Kick Off Party is Saturday from 2-4pm also at Gone Wired.
We have generally been meeting Thursdays at 7pm, though there are some people planning write-ins at other locations at other times during the week.

Thursdays at 7 at Gone Wired is the usual meeting time, as far as I know. :)
And the kick-off is 2-4 at Gone Wired this Saturday. (Right?)
EDIT: Anne beat me to it, lol.

Looks like I probably won't be able to make it -- my mom decided to come visit today instead of tomorrow.
Have fun, everyone!

Well, the kick-off party seemed like a smashing success to me. Thanks to everyone who came, it was nice to meet NaNoers I remembered from last year, and the new ones this year.
Although, I do have one complaint. I was looking in the gift bags so nicely given out... and I noticed, to my horror... that the pens that we were given were RED PENS!
For shame! No red pens allowed in November!
