Who should we take on this year? i think we were challenged by a few regions, which i don't remember (the battle was THAT memorable, yeah). Philadelphia is too big, or does that sound cowardly? The classic North vs. South Jersey skirmish is always fun. I can't remember if we've ever won any word war. Nor do I remember how such things are determined. But i know how to throw down a challenge!!! who's with me?
PS i counted reading and typing all these forum posts in my "one hour of writing time" goal for NaNo practice. five minutes left. is it any wonder that i haven't won yet?

Oops, sorry --
To save n00bs from having to look it up, a word war between NaNoWriMo regions to see which region can write more words. Um. I have a vague recollection that this can be done based on percentage of registered WriMos to actual words written, rather than sheer numbers. but i don't remember how to do it?
I might appreciate a sprint-style word war at the end of every week; might kick my butt in gear. Wagers of coffee, chocolate and decent wines are extra inspiring......

Hey Amy, good to see that you're participating this year. We have twice the Wrimos that the Northwest New Jersey Wrimos have...I say we pick a fight.

Are the thrill of winning and bragging rights for a full year a worthwhile wager? Is there a simple way to track the competitions? Pardon the nOob, please?

Northwest NJ sounds good; heck, let's challenge them all! or maybe not, since the winning comes from what the participants write, not how many people there are!
I did a little poking around, and found two others that are close to us in size: Charlotte NC or San Antonio TX. Here are links although i forget which is which.
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/77 and http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/232
The things i like to look for is an active message board, because then you know the WriMos in that region will get into it; and a region that has no word war going on yet.
There is some kind of widget or something that you can download to track. Probably best to not throw down any challenges until we have figured this out. I'll see what i can dig up.

I like the North vs. South idea. I think we should accept any and all challenges, no matter how many writers the challenging region has, because if we only challenge regions that are close in numbers to us, then no one from South Jersey will be motivated to really write a lot! But if we all really have to work hard to win, I think the win will be sweeter in the end.
Does that make sense?
Any maybe a reward could be...bragging rights or if the region is close, a party or something?

Just so you guys know, under the Regional Info tab on the new header there's a place to show our region's total word count compared to a bunch of other regions that we choose. Once you've chosen a few places to challenge in word wars, I'll add them to the header!

WTG, o mighty ML!!
I think that once a region throws down a challenge, we're in whether we like it or not because they will dedicate an entire message board thread in their forum to making fun of us...and then they'll stop back in here and drop insults every few days.

I opened this thread expecting to see individual writers challenging others from this region to match their daily count. But this sounds cool too.
If you want to be REALLY crazy, why not pit us against our namesake? I'm talking about Jersey, England. Salt water taffy vs. tea and crumpets. Yanks vs. Brits!
Edit: The Bailiwick of Jersey is such a small place that it's not even mentioned in Europe: England: Elsewhere. But I still think it would be funny...

Wow! I wouldn't mind challenging any individual in our region, but the New Jersey vs. Jersey is a great idea! My vote is one-hundred percent to do it!

My immediate reaction to this idea was "That's adorable!" and now I am incredibly disappointed that Jersey doesn't have its own separate region. I want them to develop one, just so that we can challenge them.

Oh, I liked the Jersey, England idea too!
I feel bad for the Central Jersey region. People don't realize that there is no Central Jersey, only a North and a South Jersey. Heh.

ok found a widget that might do it....
test didn't work. i'm clueless about this kind of stuff, so if anyone can check it out & fix it, that would be great.
Second test didn't work either. Help!!
here's the widget page:
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/widgets
I'm using the RegionWar one with a custom edit: average, listing all the NJ regions
edit: found in the forums that the widgets aren't working yet. no word on when they will be working....

I'd like to throw down a challenge to either Vermont or Rhode Island (or both, maybe a there way war) Our region has roughly the same amount of people, and i think it would be a big boost to our cred if we took on an entire state. What do you guys think?

Thought you'd like to note that as of right now, South Jersey is ranked #24 out of 474 regions for highest average word count. We are #68 in total wordcount and #65 in donation amounts. Go South Jersey!
