Hi. I'm wondering how you guys all heard about NaNoWriMo? I have this vague idea to do a fundraiser at the same time as the "Night of Writing Dangerously" with a focus on getting the word out in local schools/ libraries by way of the Young Writers' Program.

So...a little feedback, helpful? gracias party people....

How did you hear about NaNoWriMo? How many years ago? Have you won?

Are you participating with any classmates?

Do you plan on telling your teachers? If so, are you going to ask them for support? (i.e., Can I skip Algebra so I can make it to 2000 words for the day)

If you've participated before, when did you do the most writing? (i.e. After school, after midnight; during study hall or lunch, during Physics Lab when you should have been using the computer for something else)

Are you participating in the Young Writers' Program? If so, are you writing the full 50,000 words or are you going for a different goal?

Do you know of and/or have you ever used the Young Writers' Program materials?

If I was to write a press release, which I am not going to make any guarantee of, would you be interested in being interviewed? (over email)

Thanks, any other thoughts that you might have about writing while trying to participate in NaNoWriMo while being in school full time, managing friends, playing sports or participating in extra-curricular activities (not including detention, you can write during detention!) welcome and appreciated.

If you have ever participated in NaNoWriMo while a high school student, feel free to respond also about your experience. :) Thanks!

Let me know what kind of feedback you get. I'm not in school myself, but I'm a teacher at WWHS, and I'm trying to organize some students to take a run at NaNo this year. Any way to spread the word before the first would be appreciated.

Ok, Kenny, will do! I realized a bit too late that it would be better to have the fundraiser BEFORE NaNo starts, but maybe we'll see what happens with it this year and then try to get something together ahead of time for next year :)

I didn't actually participate last year, but personally I like to write at night, because when I'm in school, I have to concentrate on school, or I will seriously space out.

I actually heard about NaNoWriMo through my school newspaper (which comes out 4 times a year and just happened to come out in mid-November). I was so excited that the newspaper actually printed something worth reading! I read the article, was interested in NaNoWriMo, (even though it had started already) promptly forgot about it, then a few days later remember and signed up for the site. Needless to say, last year I didn't go for it because I thought, what's the use in trying to write 50,000 words now? I had sort of missed the bandwagon.

So anyway, I'm excited about NaNoWriMo this year!

Cool, thanks for the feedback Naus! Does one of the classes @ school participate? Did the paper announce it this year too?

This is my first time in NaNo, though I made 50K in January.

I do most of my writing after school, though I do do some in gym class(I sit out for medical reasons). I'm not participating in the YWP, since I want to try 50K. I did YWP last year (and failed miserably). None of my classmates are interested in novelling, althougn one writes fanfiction, and one of them is reading the half a novel I just delayed for NaNo. My teachers would murder me if I asked to skip classes for NaNo (though I wish I could - so much more productive than Algebra 1), though I might tell my Honors English teacher, since she teaches some good writing techniques. I think that would be cool if we could get something started... and I would be interested in an interview for the possible press release. I'll mention it to my teachers.

Agggh, school's killing me! I don't have enough energy for NaNo!
