Hey you High Desert Folks!

One of Life's Perks on Hwy 18 in Apple Valley has invited us back this year.

They have reserved the loft for us for Sunday Nov 1 Brunch Kick-off and Write-in 9 Am - Noon (they are only open for four hours on Sundays)

We also have the loft 7Pm until closing on Thursdays.

See you there!

Tess,
ML San Bernardino

Just some more info on One of Life's Perks from Candice the Manger:

1) For Sunday morning they have some great breakfast wraps and panninis $4.95 - $7.95 and they include a cup a coffee.

2) When you come remember to bring your own mug, cup, travel cup etc. and you will recieve a $1 off your drink (this includes all beverages not just the coffee).

3) Perks now has free Wifi.

4) Address - 18375 US Highway 18 (at the clock tower across the street from St. Mary's Hospital and AAE Corwin Campus)

Again she says she and her staff look forward to us hanging out again this year.

Tess,
ML San Bernardino

I can't believe this. Both Sunday morning and Thursday evening are bad for me, although I might be able to make a bit of Thursday evening. How late does One of Life's Perks stay open? It's very close to where I live, so I might make it there later on Thursday. I'm looking forward to the month, and to meeting other writers in the area.

Welcome Nancy,

I believe that Perks is open to until 10 PM. So if you can only come for a little while that would be great.

Candice may also let us do a second night - would Mondays work for any one?

There are also other locations and days we could check, and just because I can't be there doesn't mean we can't have a write in or other event.

I'll try to show up! The schedule looks good for now, but I have to wait to see if anything crops up. If I don't get dragged off camping or to a birthday party or something equally inescapable, I'll be there.

I'm going to try to make it on Sunday! My parents usually go to church in the morning and they are my childcare, but for a one-time event, they'll probably watch her for me.

I would love to see some Sat. or Sun. afternoon events if anyone else is available up there? I hang out at "The Grind" on Bear Valley by Lowe's quite often on Saturday afternoons simply because it's close to my parents so I can escape to it easily, and it has Wi-fi. Anyone else up for Sat's?

I have a new bicycle and I'm thinking a trip down Apple Valley Road would be nice one of these days (love that there's the bicycle lanes... Haven't ridden much in years, so I'm happier to have a rode that's sort of built for bicycling, even if the traffic is a bit crazy. Saturdays and (afternoons) on Sundays would be better for me.

Unfortunately, I've got a time conflict with the kick-off event. I'm not so sure about evenings during the week. It depends upon how crazy my work schedule has been. Saturdays do seem to be better times for me.

Well, I won't make it to the brunch on November 1st, but I will definitely be there on one of the Thursdays. I'll be the shy, mousy, pregnant one who doesn't make a lot of eye contact and will probably stare at her computer all night as she just writes away. I'll have to add "One of Life's Perks" to my GPS!

It'd be awesome to make it to the brunch, but it's the first weekend that I get to see my boyfriend after two weeks of not seeing him. Just some side advice for you younger members out there--don't get pregnant before getting married. It's not fun. Trust me on this.

I probably won't be at any of the events. It's not that I'm busy, it's just that I'm deathly afraid of social interactions.

You're going if I have to drag you there by the hair. Really everyone is very welcoming and are usually too busy writing to chat much anyway.

SHHH! Don't tell anyone - but your ML is going to try to infiltrate your Kick-off Brunch. She'll be easy to spot. She'll be the one wearing the bright florencent yellow shirt that says "Yes, I am in charge here."

If you greet her with - "NaNoWriMo Rocks!" she'll give you a prize.

P.S. If you are really nice to her, she may give you a donut.

I'm excited that my Thursday evenings have been freed up for November, so I'll try to be there this coming Thursday at One of Life's Perks. See you there.

I'm looking forward to the Kick-Off tomorrow morning! I'm a little nervous since this will be my first write-in ever. (Yes, this is my fifth year of doing NaNo...) Hopefully, I will be feeling well enough to make a nice start and crank out an awesome word count. =\

I hope everyone's first day of writing goes well.

I KNOW! XD I was all like, man. I was the last one there, and nobody else claimed the box, so I left it with the guy who was working the counter because I would so get busted for leaving with cookies to get out of the house and coming back with a whole box of doughnuts.

ANYWAY THOUGH. It was great fun, and lovely to meet you all! Can't wait for the next write in. Good luck everyone!

It was good to be able to run in, say, "Hi," and get my "NaNoWriMo Rocks" button at the AV Write-In. I got home in time to have to go back to work again -- so was that good timing or what? I managed to get home and write for enough time this evening to get to 3,000+ words.

I would've liked to have heard the discussions about the novels, but I guess I'll just have to pay attention to the forums.

Happy Day #1 to you all -- !

Sounds like you all had fun at the Sunday kick-off! I was down in San Bernardino enjoying time with my boyfriend. I suppose most writers would say my priorities are off right now. LOL

Anyway, I hope to be there this Thursday. As you can see from my wonderful time counter, I have a great start of.... 0 for the past four days of NaNoWriMo. Even now, I'm avoiding homework and yet still not Nanoing! What is wrong with me? T_T Anyway, the homework must be done eventually so it better be done sooner than later. Farewell, fellow Nanoers! Perhaps I'll get a nice chunk of noveling done at the write-in this Thursday.

Being strapped for munnies and living in VV, I might have to ask that one be set up here as well. It seems I either have work on meet nights or don't have money for gas as it is now.
