The Saint John calendar of events has been updated! Please check below for any date / location changes!

  • November 28 - Saturday: Library Write-In / "Get 'er Done" Workshop
    12 - 5pm, Free Public Library, Market Square (uptown), Multipurpose Room

    This afternoon of writing will be one part motivational seminar (led by local organizer and eight year NaNoWriMo veteran, Cass McPhee), one part writing workshop to help iron out problems that are making it difficult to finish the 50,000 words, one part socializing and several parts writing like mad. Drop-in time starts at noon, but Exciting Motivational Stuff starts at 2pm!

  • ==

  • November 29 - Sunday: DROP IN - Last Dash Pasta Splash!
    2-6pm, Cass's Place (RSVP for address and directions)

    Only two days left! It's time to put our noses to the grindstone, put the pedal to the metal, put our fingers to the keyboard, and get 'er done. And like a marathon runner, you need to be properly fuelled up for this kind of sprint. A hot plate of pasta will get you through those cold final nights.

    Drop in anytime throughout the day for a quiet, friendly environment where you can tuck yourself away and crank out that last few thousand words. Cass will have lots of different pastas on hand to be boiled up at a moment's notice, as well as delicious home made tomato sauce (veggie, with optional meat balls) and zesty cheeses.

    **RSVP Required.** Bring some CD's to put on and some munchies to share!

  • ==

  • December 5 - Saturday: TGIO Party at the Library!
    2-5pm, Saint John Free Public Library (uptown)

    NaNoWriMo doesn't have prizes, but WE DO!

    Drop by for inspired readings from our glorious manuscripts (whether complete or not!), fun games, and did I mention PRIZES?

    **RSVP Required.** Bring some finger food to share, and wrap it up in style!

Where do we RSVP? Also, are we allowed to tentatively say we might be there? For me, it depends on if I can get a ride or take the bus and if it's ok with my son. Would it be alright to bring him along if I can't get a babysitter (he will be two months old)?

I knew I was forgetting something! That's what I get for posting in the middle of the night.

I've edited the post above: you can RSVP to me at my email (cassaclyzm [at] gmail [dot] com) or send me a PM here on the NaNo site.

Tentative RSVP's are totally okay, just let me know closer to the day once you have a better idea. It should be fine to bring a wee one along, too!

Hi there! I've heard of Nanowrimo before, maybe when i was a bookcrosser..?
I have tried to write- but never managed to finish- novels before, years ago, lol.
So I've had a word with my other half, and we're both going to give it a go : ) We have a little one too, she's 5 months old, and will be attending with us... probably we will come to the meetings one of us at a time, when we can, as we both work, but the baby should be a constant attendee! Her name is Isobel, I'm Gemma, and he's chris (christopheshea on here). Looking forward to meeting you all, and bring it on!! :D

Great to have you both (or is that "all three"? :-) joining us!

Be sure to shoot me a PM or an email at cassaclyzm [at] gmail [dot] com to RSVP and get directions. Also let me know if there are any alergy issues etc that I should be worried about (I have a cat but the apartment will be cleaned well before any gatherings here - I can also send him over to my parents' place if being around him is a concern.)

Hey all,

My wife and I are very excited to be participating again this year. We're originally from SJ (she's actually from Rothesay, but that's close) and we've spent the last 17 years in Ottawa. We've been NaNo participants since 2005.

We're looking forward to attending a few of the write-ins this year now that we've moved back home to Saint John! Woo!

See you there!

BTW, is there any kind of online chat room for the SJ-area (or NB-) wrimos? It would be good/fun to have an online chat we could use to keep each other motivated.

Cheers,
Grant

Hi Lyssie!

I got you PM, so you're on the right track! ;-) I updated the post to (hopefully) show people more clearly how to RSVP for things. I'll be sending you a reply with more information.

Grant - Great to have you on board! Will you and your wife be attending the kick-off on Friday? If so, let me know!

I'm going to try to be at every event, but I don't know what my work schedule will be after next week :( Hopefully I can stay on days for the rest of my training, which will give me a November of being able to do stuff. I'm hoping to make it to the tea Party, hopefully I'll be back from Fredericton relatively early.
