I usually am someone who flies by the seat of my pants most of the time for my NaNo but does anyone else have little tips and tricks that they do to prepare?

I usually pull out Chris Baty's book, NO PLOT NO PROBLEM, and read all the preparatory chapters before the month starts. From there, I read week by week, so keep me on track, and remind myself that obstacles are normal.
As for the novel itself, I usually pick a topic that I'll be writing on before the month starts, but won't write about it. I might do some of the research up front, and take notes and such, and I'll daydream about possible aspects of plot, but again I don't start the novel until Day 1.

Eh, I made plot cards.
Then I lost them.
Then I found them.
Now I have to go through and make sure they're all in order.

My technique varies every year. Last year I had loads of planning by now, this year I don't even know what I am doing yet. I might try coming up with loose plotlines for the seven ideas currently rioting in my head, and then pick on Halloween, but I really couldn't say. ha.

Last year I did a fair amount of planning and had a very definite concept in mind well ahead of the first. This year I'm flying by the seat of my pants and being fairly random about it.

Other than putting the coffee pot near the mac (which I usually use to write on), I generally favor the 'seat of the pants' approach as well.
I mean, I daydream whilst in the shower, and listen to the voices argue about things in my head saying, "no no, it happened this way..." But other than that, it's mostly, fingers on keyboard, coffee in system, headphones on ears, ready, set...go!
