I love music - and one of my favorite artists is Bob Seger!
Most of his songs tell a story and that got me thinking ...
What if you simply took the lyrics of your favorite 'story song'
and stretched out each line into a small chapter or event!?
Maybe the reason the character in the song reaches the conclusion
he's singing about is because of a more protracted story...
You could elaborate on that event and have yourself a fine little story!

I've actually done a few fan-fics using song lyrics in sort of the way your talking about. It can be fun!

yeah - part of the inspiration for my story this year is an image I get whenever I hear the new Linkin Park song, so it'll be featured this time around.

I did NaNo in DC last year. At the kick-off party the ML had each of us write down a favorite line from either song or movie. He shuffled them up in a bucket and handed them out at random. The challenge was to work the line into your story someway. I had "Get him a drink and put him in a cell." which was easy since my main character gets arrested in the first chapter.

I was actually thinking about this today! I was listening to the "Glee" soundtrack on my way into school and heard "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, and was wondering if I could do that for NaNo instead of the other idea I was considering. I actually like this song because I really think I could pull in some paranormal/fey stuff into it, which I think is what I write best.
