What's the best way to make sure you're not distracted while banging out your words for the day? Lock yourself into a place with few distractions. And what better way to do that than to put yourself in a place with doors that open and close for you, and comes with a great view, packed full of story writing ideas and chalk full of potential characters? Probably nothing short of going into a coma in front of your computer while still able to type.

Join us on Saturday, November 21st for the first-ever Vancouver SkyTrain Write-in. We'll most likely be using the Expo and Millennium lines for their above-ground scenic views and longer travel times end to end, unless someone has a Really Good Reason™ to use the Canada Line for this. We'll be meeting at one of the terminus stations around 1 pm, likely Waterfront or King George, seeing as how VCC-Clark is in a strange spot. Make sure your laptop is fully charged and bring paper and pens if you know your unplugged laptop life is short. Ensure that you have a valid Monthly Farecard, a U-Pass or a Daypass for the duration of the trip. Those without valid passes will be shunned mercilessly, and will be ineligible to win VancoWrimo and NaNoWriMo swag. We also expect that everyone who comes is on their best behaviour since this is a public space, and we would very much like to do this again next year.

I've created a VancoWrimo site post with the public event info here. If any updates occur both locations will be changed.

Please let us know here if you are coming, and if we need to wait for you. Since there are trains leaving like crazy and we get on without you, you're on your own unless you can catch us. If you're late coming and we know to wait for you, we will.

EDIT
Let's try out these new auto-polls. Please select one of the following responses in the following format:

VOTE="(YES, NO or MAYBE)"

The bot will only catch the first VOTE tag in your post, so make sure you don't quote anyone's vote, or that one will be counted!

Question: Are you able to come to the Transit Write-in?

Results are updated every 15 minutes, please be patient for your vote to show up.

It's seriously tempting to try and get the day off for this. May talk to my boss and see if it's possible. Otherwise I wouldn't be around until about 6 (although I'd be game for an evening run... )

Not trying to influence your decision (much!), but it might be tricky for me to make it to King George for a 1pm start, so I'd prefer Waterfront. For either location I'll do my best to get there or figure out some way to catch up to the group!

You almost gave me a panic attack about it since I've shuffled my work schedule to attend. The 21st of November is actually a Saturday, so hopefully you'll be able to make it too!

Adding a fancy auto-poll thing to the thread. I hope it works. =D

I've got one of those Asus EEE PCs that have the 5-6 hour battery life. Mine's going to be ticking over while the other laptops have collapsed in a powerless heap. ( :

I'm getting an Asus EEE PC ordered in for NaNoWriMo. I've got to wait an extra week, but it's going to be seashell PINK! Gonna put Jolicloud on it, so I'm stoked.

Asheyna, I think the bot counted the vote from my quote instead of yours. x :

I think this is an AWESOME idea! Seriously, I squealed when I read it!
In other words, I'd LOVE to come!
BUT!
I'm going to have to see what my work schedule's like at that point :( As those of you from past years will know, I work with Santa in Maple Ridge, and we usually start late November (and i'm bound to be working weekends, at least until school's done x.x), so.. yeah, we'll see!

My laptop will only last an hour, so I'm bringing a pen and notebook too and going old school.

We did something very similar in Edmonton last year and it was quite a bit of fun. Except for the sudden emergency stop that sent people, notebooks and laptops flying ...
I'm going to talk to my bosses about Saturdays in November, because I'd love to attend.

This sounds amazing! ^___^- And I love my Asus EEE. XD 9 hour battery life, it says. But I've been using it over half a year now, so it's only about 7 hours. :P I think I'm good for this event!

So talked to my boss and she said it won't be a problem to get the day off so I'm in!! Wewt! Now I just need to get my netbook or I'll be pen and paper the whole trip (unless I can borrow a laptop/netbook for the day hehe.)

I would love to do this, I have a term paper due on Nov, 23 so I will see how I am doing with that piece of writing first before I can make a final decision. I live in Port Coquitlam so either station is going to be a bit of a ride.

I fall in with the people that wish they had a netbook but don't - so it'd be pen and paper for me. It depends how willing I am to transcribe all of that later ;) But it sounds like too much fun to miss! Decisions decisions....

VOTE = MAYBE

It all depends on whether or not I get a job in the next few weeks, and my workload for school. (Although, I guess I could always bring it with me...)

Here is a solution for anyone who is worried about transcribing pen & paper to word processor.

Don't.
Instead, count up your words and copy/paste that number of words from Wikipedia or Lorem Ipsum or whatever into your word document. You can transcribe your efforts later in December once NaNo is done. That way you keep your words, don't waste time by transcribing and keep up your momentum.
