Hey all...I am in Lake Highlands area and work in Mesquite so if anybody in these areas want to get together let me know. I haven't been that social in the last few attempts at this I think it would be good to be around fellow writers since none of my non-writing friends have any clue what i am doing.

Funny you should mention this....
I'm actually out and about checking out good locations for write-ins. I'm at the pearl cup, a coffee shop on Henderson and it seems like a great place to get some writing done. Wifi is free with purchase, and there are plenty of tables/chairs/plugs and a small menu of snacks and cookies (think hummus and fruit and muffins and stuff).
The owner suggests we have out write-ins on tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays since those are the slowest/quieter (the have live music on thursdays).

So Dallas people, let me know what you think And I'll get it on the calendar.

The Pearl Cup sounds like a great idea! It's a wonderful little place (and about 5 minutes from where I live, yay)!

Legal Grounds is another great place, though only for the mornings. They close at 2:00 pm. Can't wait for it all to start.

I'm around that area as well. That sounds like a great idea. There is also the big Half Priced Books on Northwest Highway, they have the big common area.

The Pearl Cup is a delightful place. Great coffee and superb atmosphere. I go there a lot to visit with friends and to attend gigs that my musical friends throw.

I can Wednesday or Thursday evenings. I currently work in Garland near Firewheel mall, but I will be transitioning soon to a job in Dallas, so the Pearl Cup would be a perfect location for me. Mondays would work for me as well, but it is one of my two days off of the week, and I usually dedicate that day to grocery shopping, errand running, and cleaning...

I am open to other places as well. Can't wait to meet you all!

Best,

Sarah

we did a lot of write-ins at half price a couple of years ago, but there are a few issues with that:
1. the community room is by reservation, and they're pretty much booked for the month of november, so...
2. the area by the coffee shop is usually available, but there are only 1 or 2 electrical outlets, so someone would need to bring a power strip or two each time

i could definitely put dates for both locations (half-price and pearl cup) on the calendar for weekly write-ins, though i won't be able to attend all of them (i'll make at least 1 a week for sure though).

how about half price on tuesday nights and pearl cup wednesday nights? let me know what you guys think and i'll get it on the books!

AH yeah, that's right. They do have reserved stuff going on.

I would think the more opportunities to have write-ins the more people would be able to show up.

That all sounds good to me as well. Looking forward to it!

I used to go to White Rock Coffee (NW Highway and Audelia) all the time. It's a great place, and it has one of my favorite features for coffee shops: big tables that encourage strangers to sit together.

Pearl Cup sounds great too. Who knew there'd be a coffee shop I've never been to :P also in that area is Murray Street Coffee (pleasant, but not very writer-friendly hours) and It's a Grind in Deep Ellum.

I'm jealous of Denton. They have all the late-night and 24-hour coffee shops :p. But, if anyone wants to do some 3-am sociable writing, there's always Buzzbrews and Cafe Madrid.

Right now, my favorite coffee shop is Crooked Tree in Uptown. It reminds me of the old Gachet, back before they moved to Victory Park.

I think I'll make it a goal to meet up with Nano writers at as many coffee shops as possible. Are there any further out in the Lake Highlands/Mesquite area?

Half price is fine on tuesday for me. White rock coffee house is also on northwest hwy. I've never been there but I guess if some white rock / lake highlands folks want to have mini meetings I'm up for it.

Maybe for mesquite: borders coffee area, panera bread co, or starbucks across from towneast mall. Anyone up for those locations? I'm in Rockwall, so it would be a 40 min drive to get to dallas. Mes would be easier. As for nights-- what did the mesquite wanting people have in mind?

Happy writing!

White Rock Coffee is indeed a good place to go. If you're in the Garland area, there's the Generator Coffee shop in downtown Garland, which is a cool, quiet place as well. I'm on the border of Garland and Richardson, and I work in Mesquite, so I'm game for any place that gets put together.

If there are any beer lovers in the area, I plan to do a fair amount of writing at the new Flying Saucer in Garland/Rockwall. It's located of I-30 at Bass Pro Dr. They've got hundreds of beers and free wi-fi -- two of my favorite things.

Hi everyone - I'm in the White Rock area, and suggestions so far sound great, and I think I can make the Weds night ones - is anyone interested in getting together for a write-in on the weekends? Or Monday nights? I fizzled out last year, and I think getting together with some other writers for some dedicated writing time will help be a big help in staying on track and disciplined.

I'm definitely up for some weekend and/or Monday write-ins! I fizzled out last year as well as I'm probably going to attend as many write-ins as possible. I'm in the White Rock area as well.

Hi Liz,
I'm new and am also in your area, sort of, I'm a little south, near Casa Linda, but I definitely know the White Rock coffee house! I'd be interested in a Monday meetup although I do have some Mondays already blocked out. This will be my second year attempting this. I ran out of steam halfway through last year, so I'm definitely interested in plugging in for some social support!

Cheers

I might be down for some Monday meetups as well, as long as my Mondays at work don't continue to suck my will to live away from me. :-)

Very informal and kind of a last minute thing. Aiming towards afternoon/evening. If you are interested let me or Crispini know at what time you would like to meet and maybe we can figure something out. Since I am off all day I can meet up anytime.

I'll be there! What time is are people going to be heading over? I've discovered that I get little writing done when I have an internet connection.

I work out of the house, so I can work anywhere. I may head over mid-afternoon, like around 2 or 3, because that's when I hit sort of a slump in my day anyway. I may be alternating work and NaNo, but that's OK. Oh, there is WiFi at White Rock Coffee, so don't think you're getting away from Teh Eeevul Interwebs! :D

Haha, yeah I headed over there for a bit today and discovered that. The internet is evil!

i'm heading to half price this afternoon between 5-6 and was planning on grabbing one of the tables over by the cafe. let me know if you're going to make it, so i can make sure we have plenty of room tonight :)
