Hello everyone!!! November is almost upon us. Before we know it, we'll be conjugating more verbs, dangling more participles, and imbibing more servings of caffeine than Bakers Square has pies. But first, before we can start upon this jubilant journey of jumbled plot lines and jangled nerves, we must partake in a kick-off party.

Since November starts on a weekend this year, I think we should have our kick-off Sunday afternoon at around 2:00pm.

So please, everyone, sound off on when and where you'd like to meet. Let's find out what time and place works best for the majority and then I'll choose something different and arbitrary. OK. Just kidding.

OK, everyone, please give me your feedback on having our kick-off party on Sunday, November 1st, at 1:00 pm.

I'm a regular at the South Caribou at the Shoppes on Maine. They're not usually as busy as the other Caribou Coffee shops. But wherever is fine.

This might sound like an odd question, but would you be open to having the kick-off Friday, October 30th or Monday, November 2? I'm a long-distance commuter.

Been thinking about the Kick-Off Party time. The first day of NaNo is all about gaining momentum and writing like crazy. Is anyone going to want to break off writing his 'staggering work of heart-breaking genius' to attend a kick-off party? Or would it be better to have it sometime the week before opening day, so we can all be writing like crazy as soon as the calendar ticks over to 11/1?

Or is the kick off party this year going to be a write in?

Just wondering.

A kick-off gathering the week before sounds like a good idea, to avoid the pressure to end the meet-n-greet fun and get writing. Lunch anyone? Munch! Munch!

I'm pretty darned flexible right now. I definitely see the benefit of having it before 11/1 (I think it would be a kick to do it on 10/31 but can see why others might not like that). I'm also open to 11/1, especially if we decide to have a work session before and/or after but even that's optional for me.

Is there a free space at the library where we could meet? I love the idea of having food and/or coffee available. I live fairly close in to downtown in SE Rochester but the town is so small there really isn't much that would be too far for me.

Let's see, what else? I love the idea of having it at 2:00ish. I have night blindness so doing stuff at night isn't an option for me.

I'm really looking forward to meeting my fellow local writers. I just moved here from Washington state so I'm still learning my way around, including the literary community.

I have a seperate, non-NaNo project with a Nov. 1 deadline, so any socializing I do will depend on much I get done. Right now, though it seems weird, Nov 1 feels like it's just a little too close for comfort ;)

My schedule is so unpredictable it's better if someone else comes up with a day/time. Generally anytime in the afternoon or evening works for me, weekends tend to be better. I'd be fine with Nov. 1 at 1pm. I'd also be fine with the week before as some others have mentioned.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like there's some interest in having the kick-off party in October instead of on the first of November. That sounds fine to me. We just need to pick a day, a time, and a place.

A couple people above mentioned Friday, the 30th. That would probably be better than Saturday the 31st what with Halloween and all.

Did everyone enjoy the Caribou we went to last year? It's the one across from the North Target store in Marketplace shopping center.

So how does the Marketplace Caribou at 7:00 on October 31st sound? Does that work for everyone?

I'm game for the Friday the 30th, I think... 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM?

To be honest with you, I didn't know there was more than one 7:00. There's one in the morning too? It must be for those people who get up and watch sunsets and such nonsense... ;-)

Seriously though, I think 7:00pm would work best.

Anybody else have any comments or concerns about the kick-off party?

There are even two 5's! Not that I would want to know anything about that...

Normally, I'm pseudo-sleeping on the commuter bus at 7:00 AM (unless someone won't stop yacking, like this morning) ,and walking into a houseful of child-induced chaos at 7:00 PM.

(Considering I plan to do all my writing during a weekday (daytime) write-in or on the bus ride home, I probably should switch my home region to Roch. Might as well score the points for where I'm writing! Besides most of the "home" people don't seem to have day jobs, or they can stay up all night, every night. Ahh, to be a teen or 20-something again...)

I should add that you shouldn't let my screwy schedule stop you from doing a Friday eve party. Depending on plans at home, I may be able to drive and catch some of the fun. But if not, I'm sure I'll meet everyone eventually during a daytime write-in.

Um, I'm new to Rochester - I mean I've been there a few times (and I've gotten lost many times) - so would anyone be able to give directions to the directionally challenged? Thank you!

Fri 30 Oct evening almost works for me. I can't be there at 7:00p due to my teaching schedule, but if yall are still there at 8:15-8:30p, I can pop in to say, "Hi."

But, don't schedule anything around me. I'm busy enough my attendance at any event should be considered the rare treat that it is.

Friday p.m., Oct. 30, works best for me; Caribou at Marketplace or wherever the group decides.

OK. It's settled then. Here's the details for the Kick-Off party. I'll add these to the official NaNo calendar as well.

What: Rochester Area NaNoWriMo Kick-Off Party 2009

When: Friday, October 30 at 7:00 to 9:00 PM

Where: Caribou Coffee NW at Marketplace

Why: To get motivated for another round of high-powered, caffeinated, and chocolate covered noveling goodness.

How: Walk, drive, or run. And don't worry, canoists and hot-air balloonists will not be turned away -- although there aren't any canoe or hot-air balloon parking spots currently available at Caribou.

Hello, everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know that I can't make it to the kick off party. :( Might have something to do with being 15 and having entirely too overbearing parents....
Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hello.

After not really doing anything with the Rochester group last year, I've decided to try and force myself to go to outings. I figure it'll save a little sanity by doing that instead of writing 60,000 words alone last year. That said, unfortunately tomorrow night will not work for me. I'll do my best to attend future get togethers, so keep me posted on those.

I was hoping to attend tomorrow night's Rochester fun, but it looks like my plans have been changed out from under me. But I will be at the library on Tuesday, barring an emergency meeting at work.
