Or am I just being too hopeful? XD.

I've just come back from lightly scanning the intro thread and I've noticed that a majority of the people there are in University so I'm just honestly wondering if absolutely no teenager stood up for the challenge of NaNo in Kitchener??

I thought I was the only one. I'm 16 too. xD
Buuut, you specified Kitchener, so I guess I'm out. o:
Not exactly sure if I'm willing to do NaNo again this year though. I'll give it a go if I manage to think something up.

i'm in university, but still under nineteen! (with some regret, admittedly.) teenagers with literary ambitions are the best kind of teenagers, in my opinion! i've been doing Nano since grade 9, with varying success.

as for the KW native nanoers, they're there, maybe they're just shy. ;___; come out, guys!

Good to hear. I was getting worried. Kitchener isn't really important. Waterloo's fine too. And I guess Cambridge as well ;p
I was just seeing the numbers.
Where's the kick-off gonna be at??

Probably in Waterloo, just because there are more options. But the exact location isn't set in stone--I'm investigating a couple of possibilities. :)

However, I always try to make sure that our locations are near bus stops so Wrimos from a little farther afield can make it. Carpooling is always an option too!

I'm 25, but my mother tells me I never made it past 18. :P

My hats off to all the teenage competitors! I think the idea of 50K in 30 days would have scared me to death when I was in high school...

I'm 16 and in the area. =D (Cambridge)

I don't have much to juggle like University and such, so NaNoWriMo will probably be easy (but who am I to judge, I've never finished a novel in my life -.-).

All in all, I'm so excited!! 7 days left!! =D

I'm 17, I've never done this before, but I'm in Cambridge, I hope the city difference doesn't make me a loner here. I'm looking forward to this challenge. Any tips would be very much appreciated, I've never successfully written a book before and to be honest, my spelling and grammar kinda suck. I also really only started this because me life is really boring right now, all I have is School and Church stuff, other than that, nothing really is going on. I also am looking for a part-time job, in the mean time, I plan on writing a book. :)

One question, if I were to write a 50 000 word novel, in MS Word, size 12 font, not double-spaced, about how many pages would it be?

Thanks!

Nathan

Hi, all of you! It's nice to see so many teenagers giving this a shot this year. I can't imagine having done it when I was in high school!

I hope you'll be able to make it out to some of our events and meet each other--and the rest of us! If any of you have parents who are at all concerned at the prospect of your meeting up with a bunch of strangers, please feel free to pass on my contact information: jo (dot) merlin (at symbol) gmail (dot) com. I'd be happy to talk to them or meet with any of them in person so that they can see we're not a bunch of creepers. =) (They're also welcome to attend any of our events with you...however much or little you may like that option. Or at least pop in at the beginning.)

You're certainly not the only one from Cambridge around, though it does tend to be a smaller crowd than the Kitchener-Waterloo Wrimos. We'll have at least one or two write-ins in Cambridge, entirely dependent on interest. If you have bus access, though, the IXpress will take you quickly and close to most of our events.

I checked on one of my previous year's stories (cringing a little in the process) and found that, in 12-point Times New Roman, single-spaced, I hit 50,000 words on page 90. This would depend a lot on how much dialogue vs. description you tend to use, of course, because dialogue takes up more space. If you're at all dialogue-happy, it'll probably be more than that, since I don't use that much.

Answer:
That would give you approximately 100 pages, depending on how much dialogue and white space you have

Oh thanks! That's helpful when trying to figure out whether I'll print it off at home or at Staples.

If it's not too much to ask, can someone direct me to a source to find out how to format my pages? I know that I could just write page by page by page, but I don't know how to format white space or paragraphs when it comes to writing novels, essays no problem, but books are a whole other story. Literally. ha ha :)

As for the events, I plan to make it out to at least the one at the library, maybe the all-nighters if I am under the gun a bit, other than that I'm not sure yet. My parents are cool with transport and IXpress is a definite possibility for me. I look forward to whatever events I can make it out to. :)

thanks!

Also, I thought I should mention (after noticing your username) that Looking for Alaska is an awesome book. =]

Looking For Alaska is in fact an amazing book. My favourite to be exact. ;p

When the time comes I'm going to name my daughter Alaska without a second thought. I think it's the greatest name ever.

On another note, I would name my son Skye -- prettiest boy name ever.

Weighing in here in response to Merpy's comment about write-ins in Cambridge.

I live in the area, and fully intend to do some write-ins out this way over the month. Usual hangout for these write-ins is the William's in Cambridge, on Hespeler Road. It's open late, it's very central, and they have food, drinks and internet. Plus outlets if you can snag a table near them.

I expect that write-ins will mostly be in the evenings, and mid-week. I'll post a note on the forum - hopefully at least a day before, though sometimes with less warning.

Skye, prettiest boy name? Oh man, that's what I named my main girl character... anyway, I'm probably like the youngest here. I just started high school if that helps any :P

Hey Nathan, this is my first time too, thanks to you. Let's hope you know who this is :P. It's your stalker, the one that's going to marry you? Yeah, you know who it is... anyways... I'm actually going to do it now :P, and if you want some of my super-amazing, professional advice, NEVER EDIT WHILE YOU ARE WRITING!!! Because that just fails you epically, gives you writer's block (most of the time) and then it's no longer a fun excercize. Anyways... I have no idea how many pages that would be... but most likely in the hundreds, DE: Sypher is font size 9 and approx. 75 000 words long and it's only 90 pages so... yeah...

Your welcome.

Aelikux ;)

Oh thanks you are super awesome ha ha. Yeah, I started to edit automatically and it made me really frustrated with my story ha ha, so I don't do it anymore.

See you tomorrow.

19 on the dot, and from Cambridge (going to college in Kitchener). Do I still count? I don't feel nineteen, if it makes any difference. Sometimes I feel a lot older, and other times feel like I'm the same age as the preschool kids I work with!
