Thanks to everyone who responded to my email or posted your intention to participate in this year's challenge on the forum - both newcomers and old-timers. Glad to hear the enthusiasm.
The next step in the traditional scheme of things is to arrange for ...
1. An intro meeting before the contest where newcomers can ask questions and receive (hopefully) helpful materials, and everyone can meet each other. This is usually best held a few days before Nov. 1. A good time to bring friends you are hoping to coach into participating. (We've traditionally had these at Chapters.)
2. A kick off-event on November 1st, which is traditionally a "bring your laptop, paper, crayons, etc." and start committing your first words to paper in a friendly and informal atmosphere - possibly with beverages. (These have be held at Chapters, but could also take place at a library, the Brew pub, Sleepless Goat, etc so long as it is comfortable for all.)
So may I ask 2 questions:
1. H ow many would like to attend an Intro , and which day would be best?
2. How many would like to attend the kick-off, and which venue(s) would you prefer.
Feel free to either respond below or nanomail me.

I work Monday, Wednesday and Friday night, so Tuesdays and Thursdays would be ideal for me. I'm also on campus without access to a car, so anywhere within walking distance would be ideal for me too. I haven't been able to get out to the Chapters because I've never had a car.
I'm looking forward to meeting some of you!

I'd love to attend both! Which Chapters is it at -- the one on Princess? Unfortunately I don't have a car, and very limited cash for taxis, so I can only go to the stuff that's within walking distance for me. (But I mean obviously if everyone would rather have it someplace farther away, that's cool too -- I'm just kinda thinking out loud here :))
ETA -- Oops, forgot to say, I'm on the Queen's campus.

I would like to attend both! And I'd like to bring a friend, to try to get her to agree to participate! I work Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights, but if I know dates two weeks in advance, I can book the days off.
Chapters would be great for me. I attend Queen's, but I grew up in Kingston and live fairly close to Chapters. For those who don't have a car, there is a bus that stops right in front of the store.

I'd be interested! I'm on Queen's campus too, so I'f anyone is interested in having a "Pre-NaNo-Kick-Off-Walking-To-Kick-Off" I'm all for it.
The best night for me is Wednesday. Tuesdays is a definite nono. :S

I am open to any time, anywhere. I have a bus pass and nothing to do since I graduated and got back from France.

I went to the Intro last year, as well as stopped in on a few write-ins. I'd love to attend some more! elvenhome is right about the bus stop right out front of the Princess St Chapters (I think it's the #6? A bus going towards the Cat Centre, and the Chapters is on the right hand side.)
My preference is at Chapters: a library would be nice if we made sure not to bother people or be too loud; I think pubs are an interesting idea, but exclude those who are underage; I do quite love the Sleepless Goat, as long as there's enough room for us to meet up there. Chapters is nice because of the possible use of the backroom, the reference books around, and the Starbucks inside the building. =]
Wow - we have a lot of people on Queen's Campus! I'd love to have a drop-in type of thing in Stauffer some time; I think it could be a lot of fun. ^_^

Sounds good to me... since everything's already planned and all. :P
As long as I can figure out a bus route, I'm open to just about any venue. :) I'm on campus too--Saint Lawrence, though, not Queen's. And GOD will class be difficult in November. x_x Haha!
