My delightful co-ML (pronounced like "camel," but with an accent) has suggested having our kickoff right on Halloween. This means that we can all jam pencils behind our ears and tell everyone we're writers! Except my kid, who will have scars and gore and be a zombie writer, because she's a joiner that way.
It's been a tradition for our neighbors to the North (not Canada - San Jose) to host a midnight First Write kickoff at some 24-hour venue (in years past it's been a Denny's). Would anyone here be interested? It's always nice to get a little word count in right up front, and stops you from getting depressed when you see that one smug New Zealander jerk who's already posted 15,000 words at the end of the first day. Nobody likes that guy.
If you'd be up for such an event, shout out! And then post, because I'm up in the mountains and going slightly deaf and can't hear you.

I'd be all for a Halloween/NaNo crossover party! I'm planning to dress as a brownie (from Willow, not the girl scout off-shoot nor the sinfully delicious sweet treat) but if that doesn't pan out I'll just wear my bear hat and say I'm a writer that lives in the woods. I wouldn't even need to pretend!
Would it be too terrible to ask if we'll be watching horror movies too? I mean, it just seems like the kind of thing to do. 'Tis the season, and all.
I suppose watching movies at a Denny's would prove cumbersome, though. They might wonder why a bunch of strange people are screaming like little girls at a laptop.

Needless to say, since it was my suggestion, I'm up for it. I just thought I should say that on the forums here.
While I will probably not be going as a writer this Halloween - I'm actually going as Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer - it could be a lot of fun to get all of us together (hopefully in costumes) to kick off Nano (and kick the butt of that New Zealander guy).
