Howdy,

I am Christy, one of the co-MLs from the Gainesville, FL region, and this thread is to introduce the "Tri-City Frenemy" program. This year Fredericton (New Brunswick), Gainesville (Florida) and Peoria (Illinois) have teamed up to create a little cross-regional competition. In addition to the online write-ins that each region is hosting, we want to encourage wrimos in the regions to reach out to writers in your "Sister-Cities" to find a writing buddy(friend)/enemy.

By picking a Frenemy from the Tri-City group, you'll have someone you can look to for support, or a little one-on-one competition during the online word wars, or at other times during the month. If you are looking for a writing buddy, I encourage you to reply to this post, let us know if you are looking for someone who will cheer you on, or someone who will taunt you whenever their word count sneaks past yours.

Feel free to take on more than one Frenemy, but remember, a writing buddy is a commitment, you have to feed them, walk them, and… well, not quite, but if you do pick a writing buddy, you both want to know that you'll have someone who will help see you to the 50k finish line.

So go ahead, and post your info, or look at the posts others have made, and find someone who you think would be a good match to your writing style, and adopt a Frenemy today. This thread appears in all three regions, so there is no need for you to leave the comfort of your own regional forum to find a Frenemy.

And for those frenemy buddies that want a chance to meet before November, - or if you'd rather pick a writing buddy "live", join us at the Tri-City Online Meet & Greet, to be held on Thursday, October 29th at the following time:

Peoria 6:30-8:30 pm
Gainesville 7:30-9:30 pm
Fredericton 8:30-10:30 pm

(This is the same time, reflected in the respective time zones)

The chat room for the online Meet & Greet, as well as the word wars (or any clandestine meetings for Tri-City region writers) is http://www.crushedmuffin.com/Chat2.htm

(If you have a Meebo account, the room is called NaNoWriMo War Games)

I look forward to seeing everyone through November!

-Christy

Hi there, I have a question about the Google calendar. The times appear to differ between the calendar that is embedded into our regional info and the calender that I downloaded when I clicked the +Google calendar button.

For example, the Sunday write-ins are at 11 am on our region page, but 4 pm when I downloaded the calendar.

Could you clarify the correct times and dates? I don't want to miss any fun stuff :)

Thanks,

Gayle

The times on the regional page seem to be correct, Gayle, but I'll be posting a new thread that has all the events, dates and times to help clear up the confusion.

Thank for pointing out that inconsistency - I'll try to see if I can figure out what's gone wrong.

I'm looking for a frenemy or two again this year! I'm in Peoria and writing my first young adult fantasy. If you're an entymologist, that would be an ideal match! ;o) hee Honestly, I'm just looking forward to a frenemy for friendly competition and camaraderie throughout the month. Let me know if you're interested. =)

Hey everyone, this is paigeorose92 posting from good ole Gainesville, FL. I'm in my senior year of high school, and last year was my first year of doing NaNoWriMo (and my first year of completing the 50k goal!) So basically I'm looking for a frenemy this year to help things go along a little faster :) This year I'm writing a general fiction novel, I guess you could call it tragic romance (if you're the kind of person that likes to label novels. No novel fits in just one category!).

So if you're interested in becoming my frenemy, send me a message or post right here! :)

Hello, everyone. This is my second year participating in NaNoWriMo, but last year I didn't quite reach the goal. Then again, I didn't really have anyone there to help cheer me on or anything like that. I'm certainly planning to try again this year, though! I'm determined to make it to at least 50k this year, though I'm sure I'll be able to surpass that. I'm working on a young adult (not youth, mind you) romance. I'm certainly up for a frenemy! I'm twentythree if age makes any difference to any of you, and I'm from Gainesville... I don't care if my frenemy is from this area or not, though. Online prodding works just as well as prodding in person most of the time. :-)

If you're interested, send me a message or reply to this post! I can't wait to get started with the creative process this year!!

Hi, I'm lolipanda (or just panda) from G-ville! This is my second year doing NaNo and I didn't quite make the goal last year, so I'd like to get those 50k words out this year. I'm planning on writing a somewhat cynical novel on the life of an overachieving high school senior (based heavily on what my friends and I are experiencing right now ^^') so if anyone's interested in being my frenemy just post here! I also have a Meebo account so I'll probably be around the NaNo room ^-^

Hi everyone, I'm Caitlin from Peoria IL, and this is my first year doing nanowrimo. I'm writing a romance, although giving away any more would give away my plot ;) I'm 18 and in my first year of college, so I'm not ACTUALLY in Peoria but I"m from there so it still counts.

I'm interested in a frenemy. =) It'll be my first time doing that though. The other two or three years I've competed in NaNo was pretty much just me.

So far, I haven't reached the 50k goal, but I have come close. I usually work in the sci-fi or fiction genre.

Hi there! It's Cheri again. I have a frenemy from Florida - hooray! I'd also love to have a frenemy from Fredericton. =)

I'm not sure if this matters to any potential takers, but I'm a 6th year Wrimo and I usually write in the thriller or lit fic genres. This year I'm attempting my first young adult fantasy. I've had a blast world-building and can't wait to see if I have a fantasy muse lurking around in my mind somewhere!!

Also--just a shout out to anyone who is still looking for a frenemy--please post here to say you're interested. It isn't too late to sign up for one, and if you'd like to have more than one (we can't have too many people kicking us in the arse to get our word counts in next month!), let us know that too.

Happy Day!

Well, I'm a Freddy native so to speak... I wouldn't mind someone to bounce words and ideas off of ^^ This is my first NaNo year, but I've been trying to write a couple of novels for years. Fantasy is my usual cup-o-tea, but I like Sci-Fi as well.

New guy here. First time NaNoWriMo participant and recent UF graduate, writing some political sci fi. By day I'm in political consulting in what we like to call Titletown, USA, better known as Gainesville, FL. Looking forward to suffering alongside y'all!

saying Hi from Peoria. My first time at Nanowrimo. Looking for a frenemy if anyone is interested. I just need an online poke to keep me going. I work full time and attend class on Tuesday evenings. I try to write a couple of hours each night and make up groundwork on the weekends. Looking forward to the challenge.

I enjoy kayaking and I am embarking on changing careers at the prime of my life. 40+ Studying Medical Coding.

This is my first year to take up writing. I must say I enjoy the escape when I am in the zone. I like writing Mainstream fiction and enjoy the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Hiya! I'm Angela & I'm from the Peoria area. This is my 6th NaNo & last year was my first win. I tend to run the fantasy-sci fi kind of areas & this year I'm trying my first YA fantasy. It's about a boy that gets some very peculiar neighbors who've come looking for him. Of course....they don't know that yet ;)

I'd love a frenemy or two, if anyone's interested.

Awwwww, Bristow! *nano hugs*

Does anyone else still need a frenemy? Let's get all matched up so we can have support through the rest of the month. If you want more than one frenemy, no problem!

Either post here, or send a private message to those who are still looking for a partner/frenemy in crime this month!

Hey Synenndara,

Have you been to any of the NaNo events that have been going on in Fredericton? If you hang out at the Tri-City Nano chat room during the Word Wars (there's one tonight, I think) you might be able to find one.

EDIT: Oh yes, and I'm also in need of a Frenemy too. This is my first year of doing NaNo, I'm a recently finished (in more ways than one) grad student at UNB, and I'm hungry for a little friendly competition...

Technically we're supposed to make a Frenemy out of someone who's from either Gainsville and/or Peoria...but, I'd be happy to have you as my Fredericton Writing Buddy! I've always found myself to be far more productive when I have someone else writing there with me; when I'm alone I often end up distracting myself...
