I saw that khedger noted that he was also from Columbus.
Do we have anybody else? :)

Hey Charles...

I'm in Columbus, GA also. Actually, Ft Benning. Looking forward to NaNo this year. Is there anyway that we might be able to have a kick off meeting at say... Books a Million or something.

Looking to meeting up with some other writers in the area.

Hey, everyone!

I'm up for a kick off! Got a story line, and working on an outline as we speak. Anybody else getting any prep work done?

Awesome! A kick-off or a meetup sounds like a fantastic idea. Books-a-million sounds good. Open for any other suggestions too though. :)

How old is everybody? I'm 18 and a freshman at the local university. :]

Charles,

great to meet you. Books-A-Million is a good choice. Maybe if we let them know about Nano, they'll open up for late write on the 31st/1st.

As for ages, I turned 40 today.

Possibly. That'd be very cool if they did that. How exciting. :D

Hi, everyone!
I just moved to Fort Benning this summer from Hawaii. This is going to be my third year doing NaNo.

Neato. Nice to meet you, MichelleMcCall. I suspect that many of our Columbus writers will be from Ft. Benning.

So, would anyone be interested in a "pre-NaNo" meetup, sometime this weekend?

I was thinking Sunday afternoon, at Books-A-Million (it's pretty central and easy to find).

Thoughts, everyone?

Hate to be the first to post with this kind of attitude, but I most likely won't be able to meet up with such short notice. I can only make the November 1st meeting because it has been planned so far in advance. I know that I would be unable to make it, unfortunately. :[

But as for the November 1st meeting, I was hoping to go to Books-a-million and speak to the general manager about our meeting. I feel like we have an opportunity to take advantage of the situation. Should we request a free cup of coffee each in support of our endeavors? Perhaps a pastry? I'm unsure of what position to take, but I feel as if we could make some kind of compromise. Haha. :]

Hello everyone. Columbus is my hometown. I live in Savannah now, but I'd love to add to the word count. Wish I could meet up with you guys at Books-A-Million. That place was practically my home for years and years.

Very nice to meet you, IcarusInAsbestos. Glad you can call Columbus your home also. :]

So, who is going to unofficially sign up to attend the meeting tomorrow?

The earlier, the better. I'm thinking as soon as Books-a-million opens its doors. Any objections?

And awesome! I'll add you to the list.

Charles,

sounds good. But some people might object to showing up at 9 AM if they got an early start at midnight on their word count, or have church or whatever. How about 1 PM?

Hi, I just read about this in the Ledger yesterday, so I signed up. I'm not originally from Columbus, but I live here now. So sign me up for the Nov. 1 meeting at BooksAMillion. Can't wait :)

Aungelic,

welcome to the chat. Wow, I didn't even know we were in the Ledger.

And, welcome to Columbus (don't feel alone, I wasn't born here, but I think I've gone native after 16 years).

Good to see a nice group of locals here. I am stationed at Ft. Benning. I will be unable to attend the opening day festivities at Books-a-Million because I will be out of town for the weekend, but I am opening to other meetings throughout the month. This will be my first attempt.

Pugby, great to meet you. I'm sure we'll have another meet up or two before November's up. Have a safe trip, and we'll look forward to meeting face to face later in the month.

Anyone think we should email the Ledger's writer, and let them know about the meeting at Books on the 1st?

Nice to meet you, PugBy. I'm sorry you can't make it, but I'm sure that we'll have another meeting, if not more.

khedger: I will talk to Books-A-Million, email the ledger and a few other surrounding area newspapers to see if they will publish an article about it.

Hey Charles...

I can make the Nov 1st meeting, what time is it? Ok, so if I understand this... the meeting is scheduled for Nov 1st at 9am? that isn't going to work very well. I have a 8 year old that I have to get up and get motivated to move. She tries to sleep in on Saturday and Sundays. Are you going to be there all day? Is this like a write in or are we actually having a social meeting? I'm asking because a little more definite time and a little later would probably attract more people to the meeting.

I'm really glad that the first meeting is not going to be on the 31st. That day is just too busy for me.

Also... Michelle... hey, I also live on post at Ft Benning. I'm assuming that you do also. I believe that there might be another writer or 2 that are on post. Maybe we could get an afternoon writing session going at Jumpin Java.

Later...

Shadowchilde
