Hey everybody! I see we already have some eager folks from around the state chomping at the bit to get started (or with waaay too much time on their hands. I'm envious of that.) We may not be able to all meet in person, but I've gotten some of my best ideas chatting with people during virtual write-ins. I'll work on setting up a google calendar this weekend-- if you have any closer to home events you'd like me to post, send me a nano mail with the details (date, time, place).

I'm in Northern Kentucky and was hoping to convince Nano to make us our own region this year, and not the stepchild of the very fun Cincinnati Region. If any of you live in that neighborhood, drop me a line and we can do some live write ins. But I am excited and humbled to be able to serve all of you, no matter where you live Elsewhere in the great Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Anyone have particular preferences for dates/ times of Virtual (or real) Write ins? I teach a Thursday night class and several morning/ early afternoon ones as well, but other than that I could probably make myself available on AIM.

Looking forward to a crazy November,

hobgoblinn

Howdy!

I too live in No KY - Burlington.

Can't work due to recent open-heart surgery -- but I can certainly write!

Been looking at NaNoWriMo for years but could never seem to find the time. However, this year a little life challenge is a blessing in disguise. Now I've got the time - no excuses left.

First: Welcome to the fun, What_me_worry! I did this for the first time last year and found it a life-enriching experience.

Then: Thanks for being our ML, hobgoblinn. Not sure if I could make a live write-in, especially since I don't own a laptop, but for a virtual gathering I'm usually on the computer evenings from 9pm or 10pm to midnight (or later). I could make an 8pm one too if that works best for others.

I'm also from Northern Kentucky, though farther east than you are. I think a virtual write-in would be a great idea, as I'm getting ready to (hopefully) start a new job soon and don't quite have the time for anything else. I'm always free in the evenings after seven, though the weekends are a bit hectic.

Hello all! I too am from northern KY, technically Dry Ridge, but Florence is where I work and do everything. I would be interested in a live write in if it were near Florence, and a virtual one would work anytime that isn't the weekend. :)

Hi y'all! I'm Chelsy. My Old Kentucky Home is the stretch of highway between Louisville and Elizabethtown, to put it broadly. I grew up in Bullitt County, but moved to E-town for high school. Hardin County is the only place I've done any write-ins.

That being said, this year I'm with you in spirit only. I've moved on to Charleston, SC. I'll be doing Skype Write-ins with my Hardin County Wrimos, though, and I'm very game for a virtual write-in with everyone!

Happy writing~.

Greetings,

I'm a first time NaNoWriMo'r also from Burlington, KY. I'm participating as a personal challenge to my creative side of my brain because I usually live deep inside of excel spreadsheets somewhere between nested IF statements and conditional formatting. I am really looking forward to seeing what comes out of the deep recesses during the month.

Best wishes to all.

If you have a write in location suggestion near Burlington or Florence, please let me know. I'd like to do some live write ins for those who live close enough. But you should also check out the Cincinnati Region Calendar, which has locations mostly north of the River-- they are a lively crew and you can usually find from 5-15 wrimos in attendance at a typical write in. Shared suffering in real time has its charms.

We will have a joint Write in with the Cinci Region at Altiora in Taylor Mill, Ky one Saturday next month-- I'll put it on our calendar and do a post closer to November listing any venues/ dates I have by then.

I'm so glad you're doing this, what_me. Sorry about the health problem that has slowed you down. Do you have any suggestions for write in locations in Burlington? CoffeeHouses/ Diners/ Bars that would be tolerant of aspiring authors? And if we set on close enough to home for you, could you get out to it, or are you still recovering?

There is a Starbucks in Florence that I frequent, but they don't have much room for a large group unless you wanted to sit outside or something. I do know that there is a tea house somewhere around there also... here's the website http://www.yesterdayscafeandtearoom.com/
I haven't been there yet, so I don't know much about it.

I can't think of anywhere else at the moment, but I'll let you know if I do! :)

Yeah, I've written in that Starbucks in past years-- music is too loud, layout is not great, and the chairs/ tables are not comfortable. I'll check out the tea room, though. I have also been thinking about Bellvue, by the River. There was recently an article about the shops in their historic business district. My husband and I tried to visit that tea room on our honeymoon a few weeks ago, but they were just getting ready to open when we got tehre and the helpful serving wench informed us it would take some time to get the water heated and tea brewed.

Thanks for the suggestions, and keep them coming!

Hob,

There's not much here in Burlington - unless we could find an empty courtroom :-)

There's the main library on KY 18 - have not been there yet but one of my kids had a study session there once - I assume they have meeting rooms? Will check this weekend.

Florence may be better?

Thanks for the concerns - health is great now! Getting around just fine but can't get back to work yet - FAA regulations - six month waiting period and some invasive testing the end of November.

I'm going to run up to Cincy for their meet & greet tomorrow.

Alfred

From what I've been able to find, Florence is not great, either. I'm going today to check out a coffeeshop in Erlanger, though. There's one in Covington that has a great layout and tasty drinks/ snacks, but the wifi is very flaky. I still may write there Sunday afternoons, as it is close to my night singing gig at church. (Th shops is Reality Tuesday). The place I'm checking out today is Proverbs. I'll let you know.

How about Kenton County Library?

Kenton County Library is where I am now. Proverbs in Erlanger turned out to be a small shop in a gas station-- the beautiful pictures on the website are for the Covington location, which is closed at night and on weekends. Spent the morning at Altiora in Taylor Mill and came over here after lunch. They do let you bring drinks in, but there are not many tables for wrimos. I asked the Library if they wanted to host us, and they were not very enthused (also needed more lead time and to know more about it, which I can take care of for next year.)

Bottom line is, it's fine for me, but I don't know if it would be comfortable for a write in that might draw more than a couple more people. But their wifi is certainly not flaky.

. . . and here's another NKYer (Walton area).

I don't know that I'll be able to do ANY live write-ins. My RWA chapter (Ohio Valley, woot!) has a full-day Todd Stone workshop coming up on 11/14 up at King's Island (which I think we still have some room in if you want to learn all about "getting unstuck" and editing). I've got church stuff all day the 21st, so I can see my weekends have already been sucked away (mental note: I really have about 24 days to NaNo. Yikes!)

But Yesterday's Cafe is adorable, but a little tight, at least around the lunch hour. We'd probably need to reserve the space and you'd feel compelled to actually take tea (which is wonderful, but still . . .) There's the Panera's private room on Houston Rd. And . . . though I know it's odd: The Honda dealer on Burlington pike has a set of four desks, plenty of random tables and chairs and the place is impeccably clean. Wyler. Yeah--Wyler.

Perhaps someplace at NKU? Their old cafeteria/ballroom is usually pretty empty. Would require someone calling to see there were no events scheduled.

And I agree--we should be our own region!

Anyhoo--buddy me, y'all, if you like. And if you're on twitter I'm keristevens there.

Hey hi, checking in for the year. Currently working 40hrs a week so NaNo is bound to be interesting for me this year xD

We deserve our own region! NKY doesn't even have it's own location on facebook for peets sake, we should at least have a spot on NaNo! Hehe :D

I'm Walton/Verona area, but not going to be able to make it to live write-ins (annoying work schedule, but hey a job is better than no job); virtual ones I can try to pull off :)

Good luck to all of you this year!

Hi!

I'm not in N. Kentucky, booo. I live way in the southeast. But I'd love to do a virtual write in. The later the better for me, as I have little ones. And I'm usually up from 11pm-4am anyway doing homework. It'll be fun to see how all this fits in with Wrimo!

So excited!

Main Branch in Burlington has lots of meeting space. Just get with Kathy over there to schedule something. They have really nice rooms, open area, and of course, free wi-fi. Here's the link if anyone wants to check it out and set something up.

Hello, everybody! Glad to see things are already coming together. :)

Virtual write-ins are going to be the best option for me this year with my current work schedule. I'm usually available anytime after 9pm, and all day on my days off. I'm still hoping to make it to some real meet-ups, though.

I work at the library in Covington. We do request knowing ahead of time, since they're generally booked up pretty fast by nonprofits, but it is a nice place to meet. Wifi, and if you have a library card in good standing, you can borrow a laptop for an hour or two. If you have a particular date you're bandying about, I have access to the meeting room schedule and can see if it's available for that date. Also depends on how many would be attending, whether we get the meeting room, the board room, or one of the small conference rooms.
