Update from KatherineWriting
There's a newer thread for this -- see this post.

Start near the back, and see how many tables we can occupy. (On Nov. 4th, we had 14 people.)

We'll talk later about whether we do the one right before Thanksgiving. I'm open.

I'll have a
NaNoWriMo writing tent and probably a flyer.

If possible, set out something obvious to indicate you're with NaNoWriMo. A sticker, a word chart, a piece of paper that says, "I'm with NaNoWriMo." Don't be subtle.

In addition, feel free to organize other times/places. Informal write-ins can be fun, but try to give a couple of days notice.

I've been a part of this group for three years now and I've never been able to make it to any of the events or write ins because they are always scheduled on a weekend. I work retail so it's near impossible for me to get weekends off. Is it possible for us to schedule a few write ins for some week day evenings? Just an idea.

Actually, this is the first year since we have been a region (2005) that we haven't had a non-weekend event. Admittedly, last year there was just one (a prep event on a Thursday evening), but there was one. This year, unfortunately, we (the MLs) were too busy to schedule any weekday events. :-(

That being said, if anyone wants to organize a weekday event, let us know and we'll put it on the calendar.

And we will have some virtual weekday events; there are usually virtual write-ins in our jabber chatroom every night in November. If you don't already have a jabber account, send me nanomail and I'll get you set up.

I would love to some to some weekday events if they get planned. ;D

Depending on the day, that is.

I'm up for write-ins on Wednesday evenings as long as
at least four people (other than co-MLs) are likely to make it.

6:00?
6:30?
7:00?
(Sorry, I can't start any later. My brain gets fried by 9:00.)

How about the Panera on Ogden Ave in Naperville?
Or Caribou coffee? Either the one on 59 or North Aurora Road?
Panera -- 1191 E. Ogden Ave., Naperville
Caribou -- 1316 North Route 59
Caribou -- 1523 North Aurora Road #107
I could also do Wheaton, or Batavia--but not much further,
and I'd like a public place that has WiFi access. (And that doesn't
require reserving in advance--so a table at Panera or Carribou seems
about right.)

If there was interest, I could also do late morning or early afternoon
--either on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I could probably make it to the Caribou on North Aurora road. I don't wnat to go much farther than that, that late at night. :)

I could also do Caribou on North Aurora on Wednesdays. Occasionally I wouldn't be available until after 6:30 pm if I'm scheduled to close.

Let's try Wednesday, November 4th, 6:30 at Caribou Coffee on
1523 North Aurora Road #107

If enough people show--I'm willing to do it most Wednesdays. (Probably
not the one right before Thanksgiving.)

I'll have a NaNoWriMo writing tent

and probably a flyer.

In addition, feel free to organize other times/places.

Is there anybody interested in doing a write-in someplace closer to Wheaton or Winfield or something like that? Even more in Warrenville would be good, because I realized that the 95th St library is almost 40 minutes from me, and there's no way I'm going to be able to make write-ins regularly at that distance.

If there's anyone near Wheaton, the Starbucks at Town Square has comfy seating and outlet space, but meetings there would have to be limited to probably no more than five or six people because we wouldn't want to take up all the space. Also, I know the West Chicago library has study rooms you can check out. The Wheaton library might have bigger rooms.

Hopefully, I'll be able to make it to some of the weekend and weekday write-ins. I'm not sure what my schedule is for November, so we'll have to wait and see.

Yay Wheaton! My parents' house is within walking distance from Town Square, so of course that sounds good to me - but space would be an issue at the Starbucks. Still, 95th Street library is pretty far for me as well.

Off-topic: has anyone heard about the Town Square Barnes & Noble? They're closing it after Christmas! /heartbroken

No! I wrote part of my novel there last NaNo. :(

But I would love to meet up with you at the Town Square Starbucks sometimes if you're free. :) It's much, much closer for me. And since I'm going to be working there anyway, I'm going to be spending the majority of my time there this November. XD

Okay, I'm inputting this address into my iPhone and it's giving me a spot not too far from the intersection of North Aurora and Ogden (basically where Ogden bends). Is that about right?

I might try and come to at least one of these, if I'm caught up enough on homework that I don't need to spend my Wednesday evening at school. :) I can't afford to do a ton of write-ins out in Naperville because eating out gets expensive but I think I can afford one or two.

That's right! I'm looking forward to it! I'll have a new son by then - he'll only be a few days old so I can only hope I'll be there!!

That's the right place.
There's a Dominiques (with a carry-out section) if you're looking for something inexpensive to eat.

How about stating a day and time--and making it a un-MLed write-in?
Just be sure to give some indication so people can find you, like a writing tent:

If more than 4 or 5 people show, you may need to sit at two tables, but that's
doable.

Ooh...yay! I might be able to make those...though you DO realize that's during Glee, right? (Kidding!) This is the Caribou at Ogden/Raymond/N.Aurora, not the one at N.Aurora and Eola, right?

Haha, sorry guys, guess I won't come! Can't miss Glee!

But, seriously, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it. Turns out that it's a longer drive than I first though. :(

I love that Caribou! I will try to make it around 7pm. I'm hosting a baby shower the following weekend so as long as I don't have any last minute errands to run (or get stuck on a delayed train) I'll try to meet up with you guys!

Don't forget -- Carribou at 6:30 Wednesday night. (I will NOT be wearing that neon-yellow-green ML t-shirt, but will have a NaNoWriMo marker.)

Is anyone interested in a short (hour or so, although you can stay longer I suspect) write-in on Friday (Nov. 6th) at 12:15 pm at the Panera on Butterfield? (It's in Wheaton--25 Rice Lake Square.) I'm going to be there, and writing!

And, sadly, I'll be working Saturday too!

Real life getting in the way of noveling...

Sorry all - I was planning to come, but my friend won free movie tickets for tonight. I would normally choose novel over movie but seeing as how my word count is in pretty decent shape, I'm rewarding myself with a break.

I will try to keep the 11th open though if anyone wants to do the same time and place next week!

I thought the Caribou write-in was a success when there were five WriMos busy typing at the back of Caribou Coffee (thanks to the kind stranger who volunteered to change tables with us.) Then someone else joined, then someone else--then a group that was sitting four tables away said they were here for the write-in--by seven o'clock, we were up to a dozen people busy typing.

Something tells me we'll be doing this again next week.

I'll most likely be there unless I'm working. My mini-write-in at Starbucks was a bust. XD I was the only one there, and had no motivation. So I'll be heading out to Caribou to hang with you guys. (Even though I'll feel like a traitor. ;) No one tell my coworkers, okay?)
