I have an idea for a game to get to know each other a little bit. Here's how it goes:
I'll post three things about me (random or significant, doesn't matter), and then the next poster has to relate at least one of them to themselves somehow, and give two other factoids about themselves as well. That way, we each end up making three statements, but they're all connected!
For example, I could say, "I have a fluffy, black and white cat named Lucy." (Plus two other things) And then someone else could say, "My parents were thinking of naming me Lucy, but I'm glad they didn't because I don't like that name." (Plus two other things)
I'm not sure how well this will work, so feel free to stretch the associations. Here are mine:
1. Like my mother before me, I am somewhat claustrophobic. I nearly had a panic attack at the launch of the 7th Harry Potter book because it was so crowded. Only self-distraction and iron-clad control saved me from turning into a screaming, blubbering lunatic.
2. Growing up, I wasn't allowed to watch most TV, so no, I don't remember that Simpsons joke, and I haven't seen that Seinfeld episode. (My Buffy/Angel/Firefly knowledge, however, you'll find is well above average!)
3. My favourite ice cream flavour is mint chip, but I didn't know that until last summer when someone asked me and I realized I order it constantly, every time it's available.
Feel free to use my Lucy item too! Bonus points for making more than one connection to the person ahead of you.

((Haha, I love the sound of this XP))
1. I, too, am claustrophobic but quite incredibly so. I always had to sit at the front of the class room because I felt less "surrounded". Bonus points went to class rooms that had desks near the door or windows. I was at one side or the other then. Buses are just awful and I don't ride them during "peak hours" because I basically shut down completely.
2. ... I love no-name soda. I actually prefer it over the richer, sugar-y-er (<.<) brand names like Coke. But I will never, ever turn down Crush Cream Soda or Dr. Pepper.
3. I only adopt black cats because I've ready studies and reports that more than 80 percent of the cats in shelters are black cats and less than one percent of them get adopted to loving homes. I have two, now and hope to have at least five more in my life.

OK, ok, this one was kind of easy for me.
1. I own a black cat. She is my first official cat that I have owned since moving out of my parents places almost three years ago. Her name is Simcoe, but I generally call her Simmy.
2. No-name soda... there is a no-name soda called RC Cola. My initials are RC. When I was younger, my dad and brother used to call me RC Cola - for obvious reasons. (BONUS POINT - TWO MATCHES! GO ME!)
3. I have an addiction to fashion magazines. Within eye sight there are Vogue, Bazaar, and Flare magazines. I look at them for the crazy makeup ideas and the model poses.

Alright I'll try this out.
1. I too have a black cat, who I named Vash. My roommate also has a black cat called Ranger. Sometimes it's hard to tell which one is mine and which is his if their not standing side by side.
2. On the topic of Phobias... I'm basically deadly terrifed of most bugs on the planet >.< Spiders and earwigs are the WORST. My roommate is the offical bug killer, if i see one, im too busy going into hysterics and generally freaking out to be any use. Luckily, we don't see many of those evil things in this house ^.^
3. Linking to the first post... I'm heavily obsessed with firefly. Bonus note to all you browncoats; In the new Halo 3 ODST, Nathan Fillion (Mal), Alan Tudyk (Wash) and Adam Baldwin (Jayne) are all main cast voice actors in the game ^.^ Nathan's character even looks like him.
Do I get a cookie for attempting to only link things? lol

1. I actually do not have a black cat. I used to have a red cat but he had to be put down at the end of august as he had heart failure and was suffering. Less than a month later my rabbit died out of nowhere. It's not been a good time for pets these past two months. Now I have a big happy dog left who loves me tons, yay.
2. After a six year long career in tourism, I decided to go back to school. Which, y'know, I had a secure job in a shitty economy but quit and enrolled at Laurier for Geography and Envi Sci and will be 20K in debt when I'm done. Best choice I've made in life thus far! :D (and it's kind of awesome being almost thirty among people who are still two years away from 20)
3. Mint Chocolate Chip was my favourite ice cream forever. And then.... then matcha ice cream came along... the two of them combined? Flavour-bliss. On a hot summer day though? It's all about Bubblegum or Rainbow flavour.

1. i don't have a cat, black or otherwise, but i do have a black dog. she's part border collie and her name is pumpkin. she's made of awesome. i've also got a big, goofy golden retriever named crash. he's made of hilarity.
2. speaking of my dog pumpkin, i love halloween. that probably hasn't escaped anyone's attention... halloween is like my christmas. actually, the nightmare before christmas is really my christmas.. haha. my husband and i are dressing up as jack and sally for halloween this year. i'm stoked!
3. i also love all things firefly! jayne is my favourite. my best friend actually met adam baldwin at a comic con, but had no idea who he was at the time. then she watched firefly and now beats herself up about not having figured it out sooner. while we're talking about my best friend and hilarious sci-fi, she's also the one who got me re-hooked on doctor who. i used to watch it when i was a little kid and am quite possibly the only one i know who watched it as a youngster and wasn't afraid of the theme song. tom baker as the 4th doctor did scare the hell out of me though. and the daleks? they don't scare me at all. i think they're hilarious! i'm going to stop now or this will go on forever. /geek

Alright, I'll give this a try. :)
1: Speaking of comics... I am a Batman FANATIC. So I have at least 9 or 10 big Batman comics, and most of the movies, t-shirts, all 4 seasons of the animated series, soundtracks, a belt buckle... AND... a big plush Batman that I won at a fair because I wouldnt leave until I got one. :p
2: I have never been to the hospital for anything... and hope I never have to, because I am scared to death of hospitals. I'm the kind of person who, if I broke my leg and was laying in the street, when the ambulance came to help me, I would start screaming: "NO! I'm FINE!! I'm fine, I'm fine!" And if I did end up going to one, I would drag someone along!!!
3: I am so hopelessly romantic I'm surprised I'm not dripping from how sappy I am. XD However, I dont really like to read romantic books or watch really romantic movies... I am more of the person who loves romantic songs, HENCE why Michael Buble is my favourite artist of all time, because his voice is the most romantic ever (in my opinion anyway. :p) *SWOON!*

Okay here goes nothing! 3 things about me:
1. This is my first time EVER posting on a Forum of any kind (I'm in my 30's so that's kind of sad!).
2. I get sucked into reality tv pretty easily but I have somehow managed to avoid the dancing ones. So far the only ones I pvr are Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother. (Remember I said so far....)
3. My husband has managed to get me addicted to Dr. Who the last couple seasons. Ditto for Torchwood!

1. I can get occasionally claustrophobic... and I did have a black dog Mystery until she passed away in June of this year. Many tears over this loss.
2. TV - I remember using a dial on the actual TV to change the channels. Saturday morning cartoons was a favourite time at our house.
3. Ice cream - while mint chip might be nice the very best flavour is pralines and cream.... mmm mmm

1.I am very claustrophobic as well. I have a black lab named Sam who is 5 months old and will be keeping me company as I write. Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog, Annie. I also have a cat named Richard Parker.
2. I can remember using a huge dial to move our TV antennae and we only got 5 channels. (I am 'only' 27, we lived in a rural area.) I am sure I claimed that this was child abuse. My favourite cartoon was Batman-The Animated Series.
3. My favourite kind of ice cream was tiger tail for a while, but I don't really have a favourite now. For years I have been claiming to be lactose intolerant because the idea of drinking plain milk is odd to me. Strangely, I have no problems with ice cream, cheese or chocolate milk.

2. I used to live in a really tiny town, like melaniehains, and remember the big dial to move the antenna, and only getting five channels (my friends always laugh when I tell them.), and watching TVO endlessly because it was the only thing that came in reliably. (and always wishing i had money to sponsor them and thier programming so they would send me cool stuff)

1. On the topic of icecream, I used to love it so much, but I had this horrible incident happen in my childhood that makes me avoid it in public places. O_o. Well, it's not really horrible, but I was young, so... Anyhoo, my gramma bought me an icecream cone on the beach, and on our way back to the picnic table, I dropped it in the sand. She ended up scooping half of her icecream in to my empty cone, which was nice, but I felt so guilty. :/

1) On the cat front, I have three. A tuxedo cat, a marmalade cat, and a dark grey tabby cat. Icarus, Tanis, and Osiris, all around 10 years old. Icarus, the tuxedo, is territorial but incredibly sweet, and is my lap cat (or rather, chest cat, as that is where he prefers to drap himself). Tanis, the marmalade, is super curious about everything, but is claustrophobic, to the point where he once ripped up the carpet in a bedroom he was locked in, trying to dig his way out. Osiris, the grey tabby, is shy around new people and new situations, but is an absolute suck once he warms up to you, and he really can yell when he wants something.
2) I have had weird phobias in the past, though I work hard to overcome them. Speaking on the telelphone was the weirdest and hardest to overcome. When I'm having a bad day, I find myself avoiding the phone even though calling people is a (small) part of my job. I have no idea WHY calling people, on a telephone, instills panic, but it does. Though I can now call in for a pizza, when I want, instead of having to cajole someone else into doing it.
3) Geek! Oh my yes. Though I did get rid of cable when I moved, as I watched far too much television, I do catch shows on Youtube like The Guild. I am a fan of old style musicals, think Julie Andrews is divine, prefer British comedies and comedians to American ones (Canadian ones are hit & miss), try to knit and cross stitch when I find the time, and I play role-playing games. D&D, mostly, for tabletop, and I LARP. Most recently in Camarilla sponsored White Wolf games in Toronto.

I clicked on it and after a week I've racked up like 1000 1-minute games and of all my friends I have the most medals for getting 250K points plus at 39..compared to everyone else's one...
2)I have three cats, but they're at my mom's house and it might soon go down to two. The one is 17 years old and has some bad arthritis and no fangs and my mom's been predicting her death all year. The other two are both black but as different as can be. One looks likes a bear cub...so he's Butters (after the south park episode where Paris Hilton dresses butters up like a bear). The other is long and skinny, but we just named him Artemis P Moonshadow to be funny, since he was a male black cat and I was thinking sailor moon at the time.
3) My trip to Australia this August made me relish being independent, but as I have no idea what I want to do for a living, if I don't get my ass in gear on figuring it out and getting a job somewhere, I'm going to be stuck back at home and chafing at the loss of freedom...especially with no car in a town that had nothing to offer besides a Tim Hortons for entertainment.

My friends say I'm indestructible, I just endorse milk like crazy.
2. The only phobias I have are of painful crippling disease and old age, I hope I die before I'm 60.
3. I have no pets currently, but previously I had my first dog, "Skia" (Greek for shadow), who died at age 3 of bone cancer, second dog "Packer" who was a bumbling golden retriever puppy who was actually quite smart, just clumsy, and I trained him for a year, and then had to give him back to NAS (National Service Dogs), since then I haven't had any pets but I have babysat plenty, and still love them. I have, however, been to Marine Land. Dragon Mountain was the first/last/hopefully only roller coaster I had ever/have ever/will have ever been on. At least I did it once.
2. Phobia, hm... The most serious phobia I have is of water. Specifically deep water that I could possiblly drown in. I'm rather fond of breathing and I haven't figured out a way to do that underwater. The fear likely goes back to when I was six and I decided to challange myself by jumping off the high diving board at swimming lessons. Next thing I knew, I was under the water, and I didn't know which way was up. I'm pretty sure my swimming teacher saved my life. Thankfully, I do not have a phobia of trying something that may be potentially difficult/dangerous. Case in point: this is my third year of NaNo XD.

Alright. So going with the person ahead of me,
1. I've never been to Disneyworld either (we were in Florida two years ago for a family trip and we DIDN'T GO, I was so not impressed) BUT I have been to Disneyland. I'm 19 and one of the biggest Disney geeks you will ever meet, I'm such a big kid at heart.
2. The closest thing I have to a phobia is a fear of needles. Vaccines, bloodwork, ANYTHING like that makes me incredibly anxious (and I have an anxiety disorder in the first place, wee). I get it from my dad, but he's worse than me, he's passed out before when getting a needle. I've never been that bad. I just have to not look...if I look, then I feel like I'm gonna freak out. I've never been to the hospital and so never needed an IV, knock on wood!
3. Going back to the topics of pets I've never had a cat, always wanted one. I've always had dogs. My first dog was a mixed breed, part german shepherd and part collie, and her name was Shasta. She was with me the first 16 years of my life. Then we moved in with my stepmum and Buster (a maltese) and Tori (a maltipoo) became my new babies!! We had to put Tori down last year because she started getting tumours in her chest, so that was like losing my little baby, but I still have Buster to visit at home and I love him to death. :)

1. I'm a bit neurotic...I'm afraid of needles, heights, enclosed spaces, wide open spaces, crowds (I despise crowds), spiders. I'm not afraid of the dark, though. :)
2. I've got two cats, a black kitty named Scully, and a striped kitty named Spike (we had Mulder, but he died a couple of years ago. :( ). Scully is about 12 years old now, and is beginning to show her age. She's got signs of arthritis, and has a really hard time getting up on our bed. Spike is about 7, and he's a bit of a...well...twit would be to put it nicely. He was a stray farm cat that we found when he was just six weeks-ish old (he had blue eyes still), and he has a short tail. Not sure what happened to it. He's pretty self conscious of it...don't dare touch it lest you lose a couple of fingers.
3. My other passion in life is photography. I discovered I was a shutter bug back about 7 years ago, or so. Over the past 2 and a half years, my wife, a friend of ours, and I have been working on recreating pin-up pictures a la WWII style, to send off to the troops in Afghanistan to serve as a bit of a morale boost. So far, we've sent off about 5000 post cards, but we want to send off some more...though it's a tad expensive (about $0.10/card, plus postage).

Great idea Merpy! I especially like how almost everyone tries to link in more than one way.
1. I too have never been to Disney World (or Disney land). But I never wanted to go even when I was a kid... maybe because my phobia is heights, and I knew from an early age that any carnival ride that doesn't go high enough to trigger hysteria will undoubtedly make me violently ill. Of course my son's first hero was Mickey Mouse and we would have loved to take him, and had we been able to manage to go we would have been able to get free passes because a friend worked there. But it never quite happened, and since the friend doesn't work there anymore and my son will be off to university in the next couple of years I expect I never will go.
2. For the first time in 23 years I'm without a pet. When I was a kid my mother would never let us get a pet but my rebel older sister went out and bought herself a puppy and wouldn't tell where it came from so we had to keep it. I named all our neighbor's barn cats, and was especially attached to a little black female with a white star at the base of her throat. My first pet as an adult, Maggie the Cat, looked just like her. For a while we were animal central, but we lost our collie unexpectedly early this summer. I'm still not over it, but wrote about him in my blog http://laurelrusswurm.wordpress.com/2009/07/08/ode-to-a-fifth-hand-dog/ which several people have told me was cathartic.
3. Although we lived in the country my dad refused to put up a real aerial (because he said there would be fighting if we had choice) so we were stuck with bunny ears. Of course they broke off when my baby brother pulled the TV over on himself. So the bunny ears we had all through my childhood were actually made of coat hangers stick in the hole where the bunny ears had been. On a good day we could get 2 1/2 channels, Sometimes you could increase reception with a chain of coat hangers, and once when I was babysitting when my parents were away and there was a movie that I really wanted to see on a channel that we did not get, so I ran the coat hanger chain through a hole in the screen window (OK, it was a bigger hole when I was done) and extended the coat hanger aerial all the way to the roof of our two story house. It was long enough for my sister to scamper back and forth with it to try and get reception. Amazingly we did get a signal, although very faint, but no sound. Fortunately all my siblings lived through being babysat by me and actually lived to grow into adulthood. I always vowed I'd forever have cable, but we've been cable free for a couple of years now and (me a former TV junkie) havn't missed it. We still haven't worked our way through all the DVDs we've bought, we don't have to watch "reality TV", and have the added advantage of only having the TV on when we actually want to watch something, (Of course my poor son is ignorant of most modern day programming, but doesn't seem to mind since he has his web comics and anime/manga to wind down with after school the way I'd watch Gilligan's Island and Star Trek reruns (back when there was only 1 star trek... yep, I'm old).... and i was just planning on mentioning how much fun I've been having learning how to do computer stuff... can you tell word count is never my problem, but staying on point is...? (dare I mention procrastination)
Pleased ta meetcha... shutting up now, and heading off to work on my outline.
