Good days and places type discussion...

I should be able to get any evening apart from Wednesdays.

Can I have a show of hands from those interested in meets and what days of the week are good for you during NaNo.

I teach drama on Wed, Thurs and Friday nights so can't do those. Sorry to be akward!

I quite liked Sunday nights last year so would put my vote for that again!

Do you have a location in mind (spoons again? quad?)

Quad would be good actually. Spoons was okay, but when it got packed it was a bit of a nightmare, (especially when footy was on)

So I reckon if Sunday - Quad.. or Tuesdays (I can give up the Pub Quiz for a month)

If Mondays - Library the first and third mondays and Quad should work the other two. I'll have a chat to the guys there about holding meetings in the cafe part.

No idea where this quad place is.....spoons did get very busy last year.

Sundays should be acceptable for me.....for most weeks.........

Thr Quad is in the same area as spoons, opposite the Assembly rooms- you can't miss it/

I think considering it is an arts encouraging place- and providing we buy drinks there, they'll be happy for nano meets to be there. Plus the cafe area is open till 11pm: http://www.derbyquad.co.uk/caf-bar

The first of November is Markeaton fireworks night by the way, and that is the Sunday.

That's true. Forgot about that Sunday. Okay, we'll make that one a Monday at Library for folk who do want to turn up and the rest Sunday at The Quad. Unless we do get a load of people who can't make Sundays.

Will point out alcoholic drinks can be quite expensive in there. Tea and coffee are quite reasonable though.

Anyone who can't make Sundays?

Just to say - we (my partner and myself, near Matlock and both signed up for our first NaNo) can't make evening meets at all, since we have three kids who are too young to hang about in pubs till all hours! Two of them are signed up to the NaNo YWP, though, so they could legitimately come to any family-friendly meets... ;-)

If there are any daytime meets planned at weekends we'll try to get down to Derby, probably with mini-NaNoers in tow. In the meantime, though, we'll watch from a distance. Have fun, y'all.

Ooo, a fellow parent. How old are the kids? The Quad is okay for kids, but it'll be more the time that might be a problem if they're young. Mine are 6 and 4, either their dad or step-dad (who'll be taking part in NaNo too) will be having them during meets though. I have no problem starting the meets a little early so you can come for a couple of hours.

We have a couple of teens who may be coming to the meets.

Just to make it clear to everyone who doesn't know Derby that well...

Quad is an arts centre/cinema which has replaced the old Metro Cinema in Derby. It's located opposite the Assembly Rooms in the Market Place. Therefore the meets are family friendly. For smaller kids there even have a decent amount of crayons and pictures to colour in.

Okay people, all events have been put up on the google calender. Please note the times for the Sunday meets at The Quad are flexible, so if you want to meet a little earlier give us a shout.

Once everything is sorted I'll put the confirmed TGIO on, any other treats that people might be interested in and the online meets.

Please note that it isn't compulsary to make them all. These are just there for those who want to meet up. So if you can make the Quad ones but not the Library ones, don't worry.

Also the Quad has free wifi for those who may be bringing netbooks and laptops... yes that is a distraction!

Our kids are 12, 10 & 7 - the two girls (12 & 7) are planning to do the YWP, and the boy (10) will feel so left out when it all kicks off and everyone else is busy writing that he'll probably end up doing it too. ;-)

Quad sounds like an ideal location - we'll try and make at least one meet. Thanks!

Any day other than Tuesdays will be great for me, so Sundays sound good, at whatever time. I will be away from 29 October - 8 November, but hope to attend all after that, especially any with goodie bags! I also have the 19th October meet in my diary and am looking forward to my first NaNoWriMo socialising session!
