Just as the title says...

My story is about a group of survivalists (some of which are time travelers) who must survive through the anarchy and martial law brought on by the Apocalypse of Thren.
Then they have to fight Shadow Dragons in the climax.

So how about you?

I'm going to do something different this year and write a short story collection. I'm spending October brainstorming ideas and themes and stuff. All I know at the moment is that my "collection*" is going to have the working title of It Takes One To Flamenco.

*In quotes because there's no way I'm actually going to try to sell this as a collection. I just like pretending for Nano so I feel more legitimate.

A horror novel about U.S. special forces in Soviet Ukraine (I haven't started writing and there's already a plot hole) battling a demonic entity created by the Chernobyl incident.

Urban fantasy about an organization that fights demons. My MC is empathic, and I've developed my own system of magic. It's also a mystery, about a serial rapist who ends up being involved in a demonic cult.

I love hearing everyone's ideas!

My story is about a guardian whose job is to enforce fate. The guardian gets assignments to watch over individuals and make sure they make it through a particular day, or event, so that existence can run smoothly. On one assignment, he intentionally does the wrong thing, resulting in the wrong outcome. Everything starts to unravel, aaaaaand I need an ending. I'm sure it will come to me by November... right? Right?!

Mine is a fantasy/romance/adventure. Here's a copy of my Novel Info blurb:

A clan's revolt against their rightful king fails; they must choose between death or banishment to a harsh land inhabited by malevolent enemies. It sounds hopeless because it is. Ah, but wait . . . .

Okay, that's all I'm giving the general NaNo public. The following might be a spoiler, but as none of you are ever likely to read my story, here goes:

My MC is a young woman (17ish) who wants to learn the truth. She is the daughter of the clan chief. Why the rebellion? Were they justified in seeking independence from the king? Accompanied by two trusty servants, she travels incognito to the king's hold to learn what she can about the king himself, has many adventures along the way, discovers some nasty plots and foils them with the help of a charming young noble and a sad lady-in-waiting to the queen. The sad lady is meant to be the next queen, but what has happened to the prince? Can my MC do anything to help?

There is some magic involved but it's limited to inherent power that some have and not the flashy spell-casting kind.

Synopsis: A Wolf at My Door
A Wolf World Novel: Moon Stalker's Book 1

As a child, Celeste Bennett has always dreamed of being rescued from her boring life by a handsome stranger with piercing eyes, but when she is saved from a mugging as an adult, she isn't prepared for what he says next. "The police can't keep you safe now." Before she can even thank him properly, she finds herself his captive, and in the middle of a preternatural battle she doesn't understand. She wants to go home, but she is drawn into Rhys’s strange world, and to him in a way she can’t explain…

Rhys McKade never imagined that the captivating woman that haunted his dreams was actually real, until he sees her in the clutches of his sworn enemy. Without a second thought to the consequences he brings her home with him, certain that she is his soul mate. While the battle rages, Rhys must keep her safe at all costs, despite her protests, and the protests of both their families, and convince her they belong together forever.

Excerpt: A Wolf at My Door
I may or may not use this…it came to me last night. The lines made me laugh so much I had to write them before I forgot…

“Who do you think you are?” Celeste yelled, pulling on her restraints.
“I already told you my name.” He sighed.
“You can’t keep me here against my will!”
“You’re safer tied to my bed. Trust me. Plus, gotta say, not a bad view either.”
“I’m going to kill you!” Celeste growled.
Rhys smirked, trying not to laugh. “Good luck with that sweetheart.”
“What are you? Some basement dwelling, panty sniffing freak?”
He couldn't help it. He busted out laughing. “Freak? Sure, why not. Let’s go with that. I’m a different species of freak though.”
“Lucky me.” She huffed, rolling her eyes.

This sounds interesting...

There are a couple of books you should read, if you haven't already, that will give you lots of information and ideas:

The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson
Spiritual Warfare by Richard Ing

I have several articles that may be of interest to you as well.

That is a really good idea. I think there is a general misconception that you have to do one story.

I really have yet do decide on a story. I have several old storys that have been floating around in my head, maby it time to bring something out. On the other hand an new steam punk inspired story has been building itself up lately and there is a steam punk con in seattle this month. Good way to put me into that frame of mind.

My story is atmospherically steampunk:

Quote:
Synopsis: Clockwork

In a world of giant, mechanical rings, spinning and tumbling around a central city-sphere like a vast orrery hanging in a starry abyss, the word of the Priests is final.

Jim is a ring-guide with questionable talent, drifting from job to low-paying job, a bare step above the street-beggars that sprinkle the outer rings.

Pilot is a nobody, a young woman drifting out of the world, rescued by Jim as the Aurora looms dangerously close. Amnesiac, almost frozen, and beaten half to death, the worst is yet to come. For soon Jim realizes that Pilot is branded a Heretic, and marked for death.

Before long they are betrayed and must flee for their lives, seeking answers to Pilot's past and safety for their futures. Their quest will lead them across the rings, to match wits with clockwork intelligences, evade pursuing hybrids of flesh and gears, and to freeze in the wastes of the Dead Ring.

As the city of the Priests looms ever-nearer, Jim, Pilot and their companions are determined to uncover the secret of the rings, and the truth behind Pilot's heresy. But what they will find in the City of God will change everything forever.

I only just came up with the idea today! It's still just a possibility but I kind of like it and it's new for me, so we'll see.

It's going to be a fairy tale/adventure. I don't even have a title for it yet.

Two nations, Lerow and Carmode, are locked in war. The princess of Lerow is a rebellious, wild girl named Katherine or "Kat." She, and her trusted servant Julia, escape the palace one night to gallivant through the town before she is married off to the self-absorbed prince of their ally. Unknown to Kat, Julia is a spy for Carmode, and she arranges to have the princess taken captive, so they can sell her for ransom and, quite likely, kill her. Kat only escapes thanks to her wit and stubborn nature. During her escape she encounters a young Carmodian captain named Gabriel who is, himself, escaping the Carmodian army. He helps her to safety and agrees to return her home. They grow close over the following week, only to have Gabriel taken captive and sentenced to death upon their return to the capital city of Lerow. Kat must somehow save the man she has grown to love, but she cannot betray her family, her home and her people. Her choices will decide her fate, and that of her kingdom.

Great ideas everyone!

There's this war brewing between fairies and the seers. Two seers go out to save their father, with the help of a fairy friend.

That's about all I have so far. Yay for not planning...

or

At this point, because I had *no* inspiration for any other ideas and my muse has a one-track mind, which believe me I've been trying to work around with a friend of mine, I admit to doing a fanfiction. It's more an exploration of how well I can do character development. I'm building it as a story that spans a couple generations of characters from ALW's CATS. Different takes on the characters and pairings than I've seen elsewhere and we shall have to see how they turn out.

These are all great. I'm happy to see a lot of speculative fiction here. SF REPRESENT. And on that note...

Another steampunk story here! My working title (I so need something better) is "The Clockwork Pyramid."

Quote:
Ketra is an apprentice at an upscale wig shop at the height of the Industrial Revolution in Memphis, Egypt. She's not particularly good at her job, but it's a fair position, better than working in one of the smoggy factories on the banks of the Nile where homeless spirits roam alongside more ordinary cutthroats and beggars. She doesn't have a family, but she has friends and quiet visits from a minor god who doesn't have much to do now that humanity has technology that's better than magic.

When a notorious crime lord (who may or may not be having a death feud with the sun god) walks into her shop and orders a special hairpiece, Ketra doesn't like him, and she hates him even more when his order gets her into trouble. Her god friend explains that Fate, which is supposed to be sealed until the end of time, has been stolen from the gods by some mysterious person or persons. There shouldn't be steam engines* for another two thousand years, for one thing, and for another, someone attacked the Underworld, and for the worst? That hairpiece Ketra is making is going to get her fired whether she does a skillful job or not. Fired, and probably executed.

Time to 1. tell off a crime lord without getting her knees broken, 2. break into a tomb to put the hair back on the mummified corpse (who may or may not be walking around), and 3. stop this from just happening again tomorrow. Ketra and her god are going hunting for a traitor who murdered history-that-should-have-been.

I've been sitting on this story since October of 2004, researching and developing characters, but not much plot. So none of what I just described is set in stone. I imagine the summary of the actual finished novel is going to look LOTS different than that. But that's what I'm starting with on November 1st. :)

* Interesting fact: I found historical data that supports that (parts of) this could have happened. There was a steam-powered device invented in 300 B.C. that was discarded because it "had no practical purpose." NO PRACTICAL PURPOSE? Hahaha! All it would have taken was just a little more thought... and history would be radically different. My idea is that a god purposely gave that extra thought to the right human at the right time. :)

At this point... A lot of vague ideas involving pirates, potential for steampunk, and the overthrowing of kings. And lots of other typical fantasy elements, like atypical gender roles and magic. I've mostly just got this image in my mind of my main character walking into a throne room, covered in blood, and encasing the throne in ice before he sits down to become the Ice King. And since I've got an ending, it's easier to put a bunch of junk before it and say it's a story.

Mine's about two dimwits who try unsuccessfully to steal their friends video game system, with tragic results- and the aftermath that follows. Thats what I'm going to start with anyways, and see where it goes. The idea of turning this story to page has interested me for years, as the characters in the story are reflections of real people who've been in my life, who at one point in their lives were so directionless and broke that they joked about this idea to amuse themselves. Further, them carrying out the idea really wasn't an impossible stretch for the imagination at that time in their lives. Did I mention I'm in the story too- or rather, my reflection? yep.
I'm hoping for poignant pauses, laughter, and tears- and grit- yeah, lotsa grit. gritty tears. And car chases! Or at least bike chases. So far I havent worked in the pistol whippings, but then I've never fleshed this idea out to an ending of any kind before, so who knows? Lots can happen in 30 days. Im excited-

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this one and I've deiced to call on the help of the characters I created years a go in a short story. I'm not really sure where they are headed in this adventure or how their world may change -- I'm only know that it will change... So maybe in a week I'll get back to you on this one.

Hmm... I've been bouncing between story ideas (and genres) all month. But I think I've got it figured out.

I'm going to start with my MC, who is about 77% fleshed out, and a small cast of assorted extras. Throw in a horrific worldwide terrorist attack from an evil genius bent on total world domination. Or annihilation - he's not that picky. Possibly add a superpower or two. Humor and heroism will ensue. Probably.

Either that, or I'll end up with 50,000 words of my MC in a bar with her BFFs, describing in detail the fancy glasses from which they're drinking their cosmos.

I'm using today to try and flesh out my plot enough to have a basic guideline. So far its be a steadily evolving process and I somehow doubt it'll ever stop changing. Here's to the insanity that starts in 13 hours and 25 minutes...

Two alien races work in unison to protect the natural preserve known as the Sol solar system. A shadowy organization appears before one tempting them into a revolt that soon sends the entire galaxy plummeting into chaos. A lone survivor, sworn to protect humanity from interference, is all that's left to halt the revolution and save earth from being harvested. In her eagerness for revenge she descends upon earth breaking the very vow she swore to uphold with her life. To right her wrong she must give up more than she could ever fathom. To stop humanity from mass slaughter she must be willing to eradicate a race her people's very lives depend on. Will she sacrifice herself and those she's saved to stop an apocalyptic war when her own people want her dead?

Hi i hope you all don't mind that I joined your region. I will be moving out to Blaine next year and going to schcool in Bellingham and was hoping to possibly make some friends prior to the move.

I am writing a modern cowboy story that takes place in Montana, mostly between Boazman and Billings, on I90, focusing on Livingston, Gardiner, and Big timber. Although other areas such as Wilsal, Missoula and Great falls will show up occassionally. Oh, as well as Yellowstone (Mammoth). I lived in Montana for a year and half and I cannot wait to go back. So, that's probably why the setting is in the treasure state. The story is about a runaway late teen boy, Will Sawyer, who is on an adventure of his life, trying to find himself, but really just escaping his past. He ends up breaking down in a small town and has to get a job helping around (cowboy it up) to earn money to either keep going or turning around and facing his past.
